Walt Disney World SWAN, DOLPHIN & SWAN RESERVE RESORTS Information & Questions

Are you confusing this with the Riviera? I haven't seen anything about this being a Disney owned property, and in fact, it seems to be owned by Marriott...right?

In regard to the Swan, Dolphin, and Cove:

"The land the resort occupies is owned by the Walt Disney Company, while the buildings themselves are leased by Disney to the Tishman Hotel Corporation and MetLife."

Yes, I actually knew that although I used Marriott, because I never remember the name Tishman. When I said the Marriott will own the new hotel, I meant that that the hotel itself will not be owned by Disney. I know that Disney owns the property, but they won't own the hotel. If they don't own the hotel...it won't be DVC.
I could have been clearer in my last response, but didn't get into the details of who owns what.

I think that many people think that if a hotel is branded as part of Marriott, that it is owned by Marriott

The relationship for those properties among ownership, branding, management, etc. is very complicated!

Yes, it’s definitely Marriott and built and managed by Tishman that operate S/D. The brand under the Marriott designation is in question. I don’t see it getting the JW brand for reasons stated in previous post but it does appear initially to warrant one of the more luxury brand designations.

We're staying at the Swan for the first time later in April. We're staying for one night and then heading over to BWI. We have an early morning flight into MCO, so I'm curious about experiences with getting a room early and how they notify you of your room if one isn't available at check-in. I have the Bonvoy app and booked direct if that matters.

We landed at MCO at 6am and had requested a 7:30am check-in. This was with two rooms booked and connecting requested. We never thought it would happen and so just planned on dropping off bags at bell services before heading over to Epcot for 8am EMH. Turns out one of the rooms was already available. So we piled bags in it and still did EMH. Later on we got a text about the second room being ready.

I just want to say how much I loved staying here this weekend! We live an hour and half away and are trying out a lot of different resorts. We had a rather disastrous stay at Caribbean Beach (very disappointed about the massive gondola construction directly in front of us) during mid March. I think I would have not been so disappointed with it if the rate I had gotten was not so high. I understood it was spring break, but based on the extent of the construction it should have been REALLY discounted, but hey, it's Disney!

Anyway, I found a room on hotels.com for about $80 less/night at the Dolphin than the CBR. The hotel was gorgeous. The pool bigger and while not themed as dramatically as CBR, it was very nice. Kids loved the slide, but were disappointed it closed at 6. I loved the idea of the grotto and waterfall, but it is REALLY loud back there! We had a snack at the Fountain...skip Beaches and Cream and the wait! We ate their Ice Cream Social...6 scoops, toppings, sauces! The only negative thing was the wait to park. I was in line for about 5 minutes in order to pull through to the self park lane. Went to self-park, and it was full. Had to get back in line for Valet. They were having a couple of events (prom and bar mitzvah), but we waited for about 30 minutes to be able to leave our car. Since we booked on hotels.com, I was afraid we'd get one of those "creative" views I saw pics of (air conditioners, roof, etc.), but no we had a nice view towards the front of the hotel, still some parking lot but it was fine.

I wished I had seen about the smores earlier. We had gone swimming and were already back in the room so we missed it.

I asked when I checked in about walking to HS, and was informed about the boat that started 45 minutes before park opening. We are serious rope droppers and usually get there 45 prior to park opening. I didn't want to wait for the boat, so we followed the path, which was very easy to do. Nice, early morning walk. We did take the boat over to Epcot and then took it back to Boardwalk and walked to the Dolphin from there.

I am SOLD on the Epcot resort area now. And I'll be scouring for more deals for the Dolphin (I never see the low rate for the Swan).

Welcome back, CLC. Sounds like a nice trip. And yes, parking there can be a pain at times. Glad to hear you had a decent view.

We're BACK! Checking in on Saturday for another conference. Please tell me what's new/changed since March 2016. I've been following and posting here and there. We had one of the first rehabbed rooms before. What else is new?

Does Fuel offer anything to compete with Picabu for breakfast? What is speediest for getting to the parks? I just need a small sandwich, egg, bagel or maybe a yogurt. Not a big plate of food.

Anyone book & stay with points recently? What can I expect from a Dolphin "no view" room? That's all I'm seeing for points whenever I look far out, so is that all they offer?

I've searched the thread and haven't seen much so I'm thinking the "no view" is new since the SPG/Marriott merger and it may have been "standard view" before? We really don't spend alot of time in the room, but trying to do a forced trip as economically as possible. Assessing points at Dolphin for 3 nights with "no view" (vs. $200/nt at POP) and hoping platinum status might help with something. Any thoughts?

Sounds like Fuel has what you want, you can see the general offerings in the menu below

I think if you book a no view, you can call and see about what it would cost in points or cash to upgrade. If it's about saving money just close the sheer curtains and ignore the view ;) Your Platinum status should help unless the hotel is fully booked.

Our stay last week was booked with points and pay for 4 nights, get one free. I booked before the rate went to 50k. I am Gold due to credit card. Our rate was “no View” and we were upgraded to Resort View with balcony. I posted about it over the past week.

They do not offer various views at different points levels as far as I know. We have always booked on points or with a group "run of the house" rate. We have always sent a politely worded request for a resort view. We have always been upgraded. We always understand that points rooms are whatever they have available. I have not had to pay 50,000 points yet, so maybe my perception will be different when I do. But I know that I paid for no view and that might be what I'm stuck with. The staff at S/D is amazing and if they have the ability to upgrade your view they will give it to you. We do remember to remind them that DH has status at every stay. That will help with breakfast being offset and used to knock a bit off the resort fee too. YMMV.

When you send these politely worded requests, is it via their fax number provided with the group reservation confirmation? I’m there with a conference in July and would like to send in a request. Thanks for any more info!
