Annual Pass for Out-of-Stater

I live in TN. I was an AP last year and went 3 times for a week each time. Definitely worth it for me. Especially since I purchased the AP via AAA at a discounted rate.

I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade just one of 2 tickets that were bought together? I recently (before this latest price increase) bought 5 day park-hoppers for a trip with my daughter in May. So could i upgrade just 1 of them to an annual pass during my trip or do i have to do both since they were bought together? Thanks.

We always have only one AP. Either my wife or I. Never both as to us, any more than one is a waste of money.

I also have seen that most people on here are throwing out 10 park days as a break even point. Not for us. We have a trip coming up in six weeks that all the rest of us have 5 day park hoppers but we bought my wife the AP. It was roughly $300 more than her getting a 5 day pass. However, we like to stay at deluxe's or DVC and the annual pass alone saved us about $150 a night at OKW in a 2BR villa over any other price we could have gotten (actually got a 2BR villa for cheaper than one rack room rate at any deluxe). Hence it paid for itself right off the bat and then more. We also are the type of people that usually don't do the dining plan and like to eat two meals a day (early lunch and signature dinner) with snacks inbetween. This trip we have Boathouse, Ohana, Raglan, BOG, Chef Mickey's (got a grandtinker tagging along), BOG, and several other ADR's. With the AP we always purchase the TIW card which saves us 20% at most of those restaurants. We all drink (other than the grand tink) and with TIW and 5 adults drinking and 6 total eating it is not out of the question to save $100 at a single sitting ($500 total bill- Yes, drinks are expensive as are signature restaurants). So we save a ton on food to go along with the $150 night savings at OKW. And, we get to download pictures which saves us even more by not having to purchase MM. So, bottom line for us is we save money by having one AP the way we travel whether it is just one trip a year for one week. And, we do often throw in a long weekend here and there if we feel like it.

Clarification on OKW savings- Rack rate for 2BR villa was $880 a night. Public discount ended up at $645 a night. With the AP rate, we got it for $480 a night + tax.

From PA and my family of four all have APs. One of the deciding factors for us, aside from normally going twice a year, was airfare. Spirit Airlines frequently offers $80 round trip air so we take a lot of quick trips. My two sons have even flown down in the morning and flew home that same night. If it weren’t for that, we’d probably not have annual passes.

Sorry to jump on the thread but I have the same question! I just got back and Monday and am going again in August. I am considering upgrading in August to an AP. What is the discount usually for resorts? I'm a pretty basic person and would be traveling alone, so value resorts is what I'd be looking at. Thanks!

It depends on the time of year. It varies and they are not always guaranteed.

We are from Ct and have had APs for years now. We are DVC owners so we go many times a year. We love the merchandise discounts and Memory Maker. We also get TIW and more than recover that cost in one trip.

No need to be sorry. I travel to The World solo often. The AP discount for Value's ranges from 10% to 25%.

I was just finishing up my expenses for my two Feb trip so I thought I'd show the math to manda_nicole12 (who hasn't returned to this thread yet.

I got my AP in Jan 2018 for $829.
Sept 7-day park hopper would have been $516.
Feb 7-day park hopper would have been $521.
Feb 5-day (did a Universal day and a resort day on that trip) would have been $392.
That's a saving of $600
Going for 10 days in Sept 2019: $545 for the park hopper.

Hi AAA offers a AP discount?

My understanding is that not all AAAs offer the same discounts, it goes by region. We are part of AAA South (Georgia) and right now the discount on a Platinum is $33. I used to buy my WDW, Universal and Discovery Cove tickets via AAA often.

We get them every other year and then do two 9 day trips for each one. We usually go in early August and then again in late July so we get two trips in each AP year.

Arizona here, previously Washington state.
AP owners every other year for many years. We go for 10-14 days, 3 or so times in that use year.

Then on the other years we have APs at Disneyland

thanks

We have ever bought an AP before, live in NJ, and typically go every 5 years. We are planning a single day next oct 2020 and are going in sept 2021 for 8 days. (We are going to be there over Disney’s 50th Anniversary in 2021 and if there are any passholder exclusive events during the celebration...bonus!!).)

We figured out the 2021 trip will be break even because of the discounts for food etc, and my one day solo trip next Oct 2020 will be free ( I will be the annual pass holder)(royal Caribbean cruise excursion) as long as prices do not go up.

If we can score a hotel discount for 2021, we will be ahead. The plan is to buy it next oct right before we leave on the royal cruise. Let’s hope the numbers still work out.

We used to buy an AP every other year, and make 2 or 3 eight day long trips on each one.

Out of state here, all three of us have APs for 2019. They are dangerous because once you have it, it’s burning a hole in your pocket so to speak. We had a large family trip booked, and knew we wanted one other long weekend so the math worked out. Of course we then planned two other trips costing us thousands more so yeah, be realistic about how much money it actually “saves” you. Year of being APs has been fun but I don’t like how it turns all the focus into only vacationing at WDW when there’s so much else to see/do/visit in the world.

I live in Maine! 5th year having an AP...and I have 2 AP vouchers in reserves! Normally go 2-3 times for 7-8 days each! Definitely have saved $$$ having it!

And it’s not just out of state. We are in Ontario, Canada. We do a week in October and at least 4 weeks mid winter. We save on tickets alone and the discounts, free parking and other benefits definitely make the APs worthwhile.

Four weeks in the middle of the winter!!! I want to be like you!

Sometimes the AP discount is more or less the same as the general public one.

In some cases, the LOWEST WDW ratel is the bounceback deal- if you can book a return trip a year out..but to get those, you often need to include tickets.

If you are on the fence about the value of AP's for everyone- getting just one AP is often good idea.

Folks have said you need two trips to make it worthwhile....but really, that second trip can be ALMOST a full year away. If you go June 10-17 this year- your second AP trip can be June 2-9.

PLUS, well folks are looking at this in terms of current ticket pricing, but WDw prices go up and up all the time. having an AP, slightly insulates you from 12 months of ticket price increases.

that said AP prices just went up a LOT! Ouch!

One more thought....If you only go to WDW a few times a year, and/or can ONLY go over specific weeks, then often renewing is NOT your best choice. When you renew, you keep the SAME (OLD) expiration date. When you get a NEW AP, you get a NEW expiration date.
A renewed AP = $1012.82 which = $84.42 per month.

A new AP costs $179 more, which = just over 2 months

Another way of saying the same: If you space your trips 3 months apart, then it doesn't make sense to renew. It makes more sense to buy a new AP, because a new AP extends your expiration date out 3months.
