Do you/Did you ever watch a soap opera?

My babysitter in 5th and 6th grade used to watch General HOspital so I think that was my first. I remember watching Luke and Laura's wedding very vividly.

During summer when I was off from middle school I got hooked on Days of Our Lives, Another World and Santa Barbara. I really loved Santa Barbara, so sad when it when off.

I tell GH’s Sonny, Carly, Jason and Sam to shut up all time.

Then you don't remember Liz Matthews on Another World, played by Audra Lindley . Talk about a mean woman, Liz would fly into rages and scream and SCREAM at people, you thought Rachel was mean, think again!

Yes.
Spent a summer with my Nana and Papa. Papa would be at the store until 4 or 5:00 PM and Nana would spend her morning up until time to bring Papa his lunch, watching a medical setting sp ( The Doctors? The Hospital?) followed by Another World whilst she ironed clothing; during commercials she vacuumed. She used to talk to the TV same as when she listened to the radio on Sunday morning before she went to church but the words were different. For the soap operas it was all teeth sucking and mutterings of "Jezebel" and "Why don't you listen to your mother?!". For the radio sermons it was "Hmmhm", "Praise the Lord" and "Yes, Jesus". For the Catholic raised grrlie I was this was allll a revelation:lmao:

Next soap opera I watched was.....Dark Shadows which was all the rage. Run home from school, do some homework and then sit there glued to the boob tube letting Barnabas, Angelina, and Quentin have at it.

In the mid to late '70's it was Poldark on Masterpiece Theatre shown on Sunday nights. Lots o' bosom heaving and scowling.

Finally, I finished any need for soaps with Dallas in the late 70's, early '80's. After the "Who shot JR?" season I turned the TV off and went back to reading.
My grandmother watched Another World too. She would get so mad at Liz Matthews, played by Aurda Lindey, because Liz would fly into rages and scream and SCREAM at people and my grandmother would say "Liz, would you just please shut up!"

I watched Days of our Lives for years. The writing went bad quite a few years ago & I haven't watched since.

I still watch it but I do agree. The storylines & writting has gotten pretty awful.
I didn't like how they switched to almost all the younger people's stories. I want Bo & Hope! Roman & Marlena! John's a moron🤣🤣. Jack & Jennifer. I loved Tony even when he was bad!

Heck no! I They're too depressing and stupid! No offense to the people who love soap operas.

I know daytime soaps are a dying genre on American television, but I was curious if you ever followed a soap on a regular basis. I would also be interested in knowing why you stopped watching.

I love the continuing drama format. I started watching Dark Shadows in 1968 when I was in 3rd gtade. At one time or another I watched Secret Storm, Search for Tomorrow, Doctors, Passions, As the World Turns, One Life to Live and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.
I also loved the nighttime soaps of the '80s and watched Dallas, Dynasty, Colbys, Knots Landing and Falcon Crest.
Currently I watch The Young and the Restless, General Hospital and my favorite, Days of Our Lives. I record them while I'm at work and watch them at night.

Please share with me your soap opera viewing history. Thanks.

I'm also curious to know if any of you are guys like me...
My gma was a big soap opera person. She mainly watched All My Children, One Life to Live, and General Hospital. I watched those pretty regularly when I was around her. My sisters and I really got into Days of our Lives for a while too. I stopped watching all for years when I became an adult and was working and it was. before dvrs were popular. I started watching GH again almost daily about 8-9 years ago with dvrs.

I loved my soaps and games shows. Sadly I no longer watch much on daytime. I can’t stand talk sows.

I'm a guy (just saying that it's typical for men not to watch soap operas, before being attacked, I understand some males do watch...) so never watched them.

Then I had daughters and in early high school had no choice since it was on the TV as soon as they got home. They watched Bold and the Beautiful. I have better things to do...

Then I get home a little late, and they are just finishing watching. Ah... Wait... What happened with Hope? What about Ridge? I find out I know more about these characters than I wanted to, LOL.

Don't know about those characters any more, no longer together. I'd go out to pick them up though and they'd be watching it and even though the names and characters are the same, they were all different actors.

I have been working in jobs that require me to be on-site all of the time so I never have time to watch such things, particularly because they are daytime shows. I leave at 0630 and rarely get home before 1630 or so.

I'm in my early 40's and I have watched Days on and off since high school when my friend got me into it. I also watched Passions and Sunset Beach when those were on.
On the days that I'm not able to watch or I get behind, there is a website that recaps each day in pretty good detail so I read about what happened to get caught up.

Dark Shadows, technically a soap opera, right? It was before my time but I watched it on reruns and video. Still haven't seen the whole run. An amazing mess of a show! Saw some of the 2nd series (Ben Cross as Barnabas Collins). There was a third remake that I never saw, and then came the Burton movie.

My sister and mom used to watch the usual ones in the 80's and 90's, so I have vague memories. What's-her-face was possessed by the devil. There was one dude Stefano everyone kept talking about.

I recall seeing Stefano descending a staircase and pausing to lock eyes with someone as Smashing Pumpkins' "Disarm" began playing. So cheesy. Just go get your pudding cups from the kitchen, Stefano.

And there's Passions which features mystical white horses and talking puppet people.
