That's very interesting. Reading through the comments some quick points -
It has to be a new account because you earn your cashback as MR points. There's a FAQ or T&C that mentions if you switch your account to earn $$ again then you can't go back to the MR cashouts.
You have to have a personal MR earning card in your profile that you link. People with Biz only haven't been able to set it up.
The cashout to MR will happen on the quarterly basis automatically just like regular eBates.

I haven't tried eBates since it launched and I had a horrible time with it and since then I have a hard enough time keeping up with the number of shopping portals/rewards programs I use already. But this is might swing me opening an account for the off chance I actually find something to do with our MR points
I think this was AmEx's way to do a shopping portal like Chase and Discover (RIP) do/did since portals seem to be the rage at the moment.

good stuff. thanks.
rip my $200 ebates account balance.

Thanks for posting. I just signed up and was told I'm eligible! Nice to have another portal option.

I don't have any history with Ebates (good, I guess, since that made me eligible for this MR-earning feature), but I use Cashback Monitor to figure out which portal to use for any particular purchase (although my defaults tend to be United and Chase). If you aren't familiar with Cashback Monitor, you can configure your own Monitor with up to 8 portals you want it to show offers on and up to 20 retailers. I go to My Monitor before I made any online purchase.

That is a handy tool. For me it's more for convenience of tracking currencies than finding the best rate that I haven't jumped into the eBates, TCB, RMN, etc etc fray. Each one has it's own rules for cashbouts and whatnot and since I don't shop much I don't want to end up with little bits of cashback sitting around in accounts I either forget about or can't redeem. So I pay a little for convenience, keeps the hamster on his wheel for the most part, but this is novel so it might be a good reason to jump in. :)

(side note, can't believe it's been 20 years since I tried the new fangled internet shopping thing; ugh, I guess I am getting old. and I still have my email from back then, wonder if it's still in the system )

Ebates is my favorite portal, even if it doesn't always have the highest payout. It tracks my purchases a lot more accurately than other portals (which means I don't have to go tracking down my shopping trips and emailing support where's my mon-neeey?), and lets me use promo codes regardless of where I find them (which a lot of other portals exclude).

I also have a fondness for all the money Ebates paid me from the eBay-Target churning days.

Agreed on not wanting to deal with having to keep track of cashback in various accounts and needing to cash them out, etc. That's why I tend to default to United and Chase since those points automatically move into my MileagePlus and Chase accounts (but I do keep a cheat sheet where I note which portal purchases I have made so I can make sure I get credit). There are a couple of retailers I sometimes buy at that aren't on those portals, but have been on TopCashBack. I hate how long it takes the cash to become payable there and then having to be proactive to move it into my PayPal account. That's why I like this Ebates feature of the rebates going automatically into my MR account.

makes me wonder if ebates will let u make a new account despite having an account...

And the dreaded AMEX popup is here again for DH. Can't say I'm at all surprised. Going to try some more spend for a couple weeks and see what happens. Trying to get the BBP to have a no AF card for his MRs. Not the end of the world if we can't get it. I think that is the end of the AMEX line for us though if I can finally get it.

Could you use any of the other Amex business card...Hilton, Delta etc..you could self refer

I’m without a MSR as well.....but it’s too soon for another Chase card and I’m not willing to pay an annual fee on a card that I just don’t know what I’d use the points for
I feel the same way about the MR cards!

Citi Biz GrAAvy train?
I think this is a winner, I'm hopping aboard!

Anything more than $600. The IRS just expects you to know I guess lol. It's something an accountant would *hopefully* tell you. There's a small penalty for filing late but I'm not exactly sure what it is. Honestly, I probably wouldn't send it.

Based on my (not very in depth) reading, if you pay via credit card or paypal (I'm putting plastiq in this category, personally) you don't have to send a 1099. Yet another reason to churn!

ETA - because I'm a nerd, I pulled the instructions for the 1099-Misc. Yes, payments (even to LLCs) of more than $600 need to be reported, but not if paid by cc.
I did use Plastiq/credit card (you know, my fancy new CIP) but seems that requires a 1099-K
Since I am pretty far past deadline and low risk for audit, I think I’ll ‘forget’ it for now but remember for future payments. Shhh

Dh said he thinks we would retire by 48 but I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets pushed back some when we have kids
 DH and I joke that we will never retire now. We thought we had it all planned out to have 2 kids and then surprise it’s twins and we ended up with 3! We were not prepared to spend 30% of our income on childcare but you do what you have to do.

@Lain - thanks so much for populating the news thread on DISchurners with all the recent major events!! It’s been a busy couple of days for me at work - I really appreciate it!

It’s also been nice to remind me of things I wanted to take a second look at after reading the comment here.

I want twins so bad!

What's the best offer on the Citi AA biz right now? I'm going to check out Dischurners too.
I think the public offer right now is:
EARN UP TO 60,000American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles: 50,000 AAdvantage® miles after making $3,000 in purchases in first 3 months. And 10,000 after making a total of $10,000 in purchases in first 12 months of account opening.

The current dummy booking offer is:
Earn 40,000 American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles after
$2,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. Plus, new cardmembers can also receive up to a $200 statement credit on eligible American Airlines purchases in the first 12 months of account opening.

I’m preferable to the dummy booking offer. You only have a $2k MSR. You can buy a $200 AA gift card and sell that for about 80% value. Then you can request a 20k match by sending a backdoor SM (Citi shutdown their SM system but you can still send one this way)...

When logged into Citi, Click “Services” then “Credit Card Services” then “Request a credit limit increase” then “Request your Card agreement”. That will bring you to the "hidden" SM screen.

Say something like: “I noticed there is a higher offer of 75k AA miles. Is it possible to match my offer to that one.” It may help to actually include a link to the higher offer. That higher offer may require a larger MSR but in practice they just give you a match (up to a max of 20k pts) without requiring any additional spend :)

There is a risk that you could be denied the match though so be aware of that...I finally got mine approved after 3 attempts.

I meant to post this earlier this week, but the day(s) got away from me.

As you may have read, Marriott announced award category changes to their hotels that go into effect on 3/5/19: Marriott’s New 2019 Award Category Changes are Out, Increases Outnumber Decreases 9-to-1 - VftW

There's been some confusion whether using the "Points Advance" option — to lock in current redemption rates if you don't yet have the Marriott points in your account but plan to have them at least 2-weeks before check-in — will actually lock in current category and standard rates if you don't have the points to order a redemption certificate before 3/5/19.

Both VftW and FM report that Marriott has confirmed points advance reservations will lock in current award redemption rates even without enough points to issue a reward certificate before 3/5/19.

Use Points Advance to Lock In Current Marriott Redemption Rates Before Prices Go Up - VftW

Lock in current Marriott rates w/ Points Advance after all - FM

If you plan to stay at a Marriott hotel in the next year that is going up in category pricing, and have dates for your travels, lock in current rates with Points Advance before 3/5/19 even if you don't have the points yet!

Starting today, Hyatt has a promo where you earn bonus points on cash and award stays. Earn 1000 extra points per stay and an extra 500 for Hyatt house or Hyatt place stays. The catch is it applies on your second stay.

Found a Hyatt place 5 miles from my house for $95 for tomorrow night. DH and I had already planned dinner and a movie for Valentines weekend , why yes, why don’t we add a cheap one night hotel stay too. Plus I get bonus points, we get to use the gym and have a hot breakfast just the two of us. I plan to use my WOH card to pay for the stay maximizing my earn rate.

Second stay will be in less than two weeks at the Hyatt place MCO before our WDW trip. I love it when a plan comes together.

Furiously collecting Hyatt points for our California trip next year!
