Boatwright's suggestions

We got a reservation and have been wanting to try this for a while. What did you like or not like?

The best risotto I have ever had! It's seasonal and I don't remember what flavor I had though.

Shrimp n Grits, Jambalaya and the BBQ Ribs. The seasonal salad is good and don't forget to enjoy the cornbread.

I don't recall loving the pork chop. But jambalaya is my dad's favorite meal and he loves the one at Boatwright's. I can also say the prime rib and risotto really are wonderful.

I don't think the hot chicken was on the menu last time I went, or I would've ordered it. I'd love to hear anyone's review of that!

It's been a few years since we ate there but we loved the Mardi Gras Fritters, which are fried pimento cheese balls. So good!

We were just there a couple months ago, and I loved the Louisiana Lugger. The pork chop was OK, but the real star for me was the sweet potato hash. I'm thinking that next time I might ask for twice as much sweet potato hash and half as much pork chop. Part of me would be OK with all sweet potato hash, but the pork chop was good, just too much and not enough sweet potato hash for me.

Hate to say it was the worst meal of our trip last time. I had the Chicken and Dumplings....which were very strange but I did eat them. Complication for me is a shellfish allergy which makes their menu difficult, I had basically only the one choice. I would not choose to eat there...

We shared a Crawfish Mac n Cheese as an appetizer and it was fabulous.

Ate there three (close to four) years ago and was pleasantly surprised...and I'm from Louisiana and can be picky about Cajun food! I had the catfish, and it was amazing though I don't think it's on the menu now. The fried appetizer with okra, crawfish and shrimp was great and HUGE. Family members who had the shrimp and grits loved it, and the étoufée was well received too (for an étoufée made in Florida). Several of us shared a few crawfish mac and cheese sides and enjoyed it as well. It wasn't the best most amazing Cajun food I've ever had, but we had no complaints. And if you like Cajun-inspired seafood, I think it's a good option.

I have a beef with this place. We had a horrible experience here and I'll never go back. Food was very average to mediocre, service and management was horrible. Had to wait over an hour past our ADR and the restaurant was mostly empty. Not worth waiting for and there isn't any ambiance to speak of.

My only suggestion would be to spend your money elsewhere. You can get a better meal at Olivia's.

I guess it just goes to show that everyone's different. We loved it there (and yes we've eaten at Olivia's). DH had one of the cajun meals (can't remember what), and I had the Louisianna Lugger. DH was disappointed that they didn't have a dessert he'd seen on the menu he saw beforehand-turns out he was looking at an outdated menu!

Happened to eat here two weeks ago during our stay at POR. Food was great---I ordered the prime rib and thought it was good. My husband ordered the pork tenderloin with sweet potato hash and told me how much he loved it while we were eating at least ten times. It was his favorite meal of the trip. The kids mac and cheese was a little overcooked---my 2 year old was fine with it, but my five year old not so much. That was our only complaint.

Looking back at this thread, as I’ll be eating there next week! Any fresh perspectives? Eyeing the shrimp and grits, hot chicken, or steak.

I love the prime rib there! My only complaint is that they took my favorite dessert off of the menu. It was some sort of bread pudding with rum raisin ice cream and it was so good.

This is good to see! I’ve seen a lot of bad reviews about this place, so it’s nice to see a good one from someone from Louisiana. I love Louisiana food. I’ve stayed at POR many times and just never took the time to eat there. I may have to give it a shot!

We've dined there 7 times and never had a bad meal. Just got back from a weekend trip, and once again, experienced terrific service and meals. DS had his favorite, prime rib. I had the new dish, Nashiville Hot Chicken. Great blend of spicy with a little sweetness. Greens are generally not my thing, but the ones served with the chicken were actually good. The cornbread is always a winner.

That’s great to hear! Although I’m still torn between those entrees (prime rib, hot chicken, and shrimp/grits), it’s good to hear you’ve had positive experiences with several entrees.
