Disney's CARIBBEAN BEACH RESORT Information & Questions

We just left yesterday after a short 2 night trip and loved the resort! We had preferred in Barbados and had building 32 second floor corner room. We had 5 total in our room and didn’t feel squished at all and would definitely book again! Had absolutely no problems with the buses either!

We have a trip booked for just before Christmas until New Years of 2019. We're staying in a preferred room at CBR. I was concerned about the transportation, the buses in particular. I usually rent a car when I vacation at Disney but I'm leaning towards not renting one for this trip because of traffic.

I'm coming across info that water view (not preferred) is allowing Martinique as a request. Does this mean that not all of Martinique is preferred?

First of all, the options for room requests online are the exact same for everyone no matter what room type you booked. So for most a request for Martinique would be a wasted request.

Secondly, buildings/Villages are not categorized as Preferred. Only rooms can be. Martinique and Barbados have 3 room types. Preferred, Water View and King.

Okay, thanks. Sorry I didn't realize that the requests were the same for everyone. It's been broken for so long.

I don’t know if it has changed, but when I booked a Water View room three years ago, I was told that all Water View rooms were eligible, including those in Martinique. Sure enough, we were placed in Martinique.

HELP...If I book a room at CBR with a 5th sleeper, will that guarantee me a room with a small murphy bed? :confused3 We are booking three rooms (each with 2 adults and one with 2 kids), and we want to each have a small murphy bed in our rooms in case the kids need to sleep with my brother one night and my parents the next (depending on our park schedules).
:goodvibes

I have the opposite problem. I booked a Standard 5 Sleeper room because of the awesome rate, but I don’t necessarily need the Murphy bed. Wondering if I can simply request a room with just two queens.

You're welcome. No need to apologize, most people don't know and end up making a request that can't be met because of the room type they booked.

We decided to move from POR to CBR and risk getting whatever we get for a room. I booked the Water/Pool 5th sleeper rooms for us all, so fingers crossed that we get exactly that. :jumping1:

My nieces are thrilled with changing resorts because they LOVE the CBR pool, and I'm excited to see the renovations. I haven't been to POR in about 20 years, so I'm bummed to miss it again this year, but we just couldn't pass up the bigger discount. :cool1:

Of course you will. :thumbsup2 Excellent choice on the switch!

You couldn’t pay me enough to drive around property so transportation is important to us. We have stayed all levels of resorts and overall haven’t had too many problems. We were in parks NYE and Day and got to MK around 8:30 in the morning and it only took us 30 minutes to get there. I am not sure if you wait too much longer to get there or you will be on the bus forever. We even park hopped from AK to HS back to AK and then to MK on NY day and has great transportation.

Wow, it looks like you got a lot done in 2 days. Thank you so much for your help. I just have to convince DH that having a car during this time will be a bad idea. Hopefully the Disney Skyliner will be running by then too. CBR will be the perfect resort to stay at, especially for next year, being so close to Epcot and HS.

I have a question to anyone who has stayed at CBR recently on DDP. Have you been able to substitute anything for the drink for QS meal at Centertown Market and/or Spyglass Grill since you have the refillable mug? Also are the freestyle Coke machines still around?

It seemed to depend on the CM unfortunately. As far as I was aware, you should be able to swap, but as I say, some CM's allowed it but some didn't. On one occasion, at the Grab N Go, a CM allowed me to swap the drink for a dessert (with my sandwich) then the CM at the till said "are you getting a drink with that meal", so I ended up with a bottle of beer as well.

Thanks for the info, @dansdad

We've just booked an unexpected trip September trip because of Free Dining, and I've booked us to stay at CBR! We last stayed deluxe, but I want to do a 10 day trip....7 days just didn't seem long enough, so we need to move to moderate.

I'm trying to keep it around $6500, since we're Canadian, and that'll really be more like $9000.

We are a family of 5, and I wasn't that interested in staying in the alligator bayou rooms at POR, s=and the resort upgrades at CBR look amazing, so we will give it a try.:thumbsup2

I'm currently booked at a preferred room, but it is costing an extra $600 for the trip. I figured if we are staying for so long, I don't want to be hiking all over the place. But, I'm wondering, based on some posts, if it's really no advantage to take a preferred room? I'd love some input.

Previously, we stayed in the Royal Rooms at POR, amd I didn't think it was much of a walk...we've also stayed at the Cabins at FW, and only used the pool one day, so the size of the resort was no big deal. But, I read comments from others who constantly mention how both those locations had "so much walking"

I'd love some recommendations on room types for those who are experienced with the resort. We have three kids (6, 9, 11) and plan to have a couple resort days this stay. I think we might sign the kids up for the Pirates cruise as well.

Thanks all!. This thread has been great already!

It really WAS a considerable savings to stay at CBR as opposed to POR, wasn't it? Why do you think that is? We have split stays for our May, Sept, and Dec trips.....and May and Dec trips start out at CBR. We haven't stayed their since 2012 but we really enjoyed it then and are really looking forward to the changes!

I think they were saying that room rates were/are based on occupancy percentages. Like if the resort is already at a higher capacity they lower the prices at others so that people will either switch their current reservations or make new ones at the resorts w/ lower prices.

Because POR in general more popular than CBR. And with the way CBR was a shell of itself during the construction, it drove people away. Now that she is back in all her glory, the news hasn't gotten out yet so they are offering the discount to fill the empty rooms.

We are big proponents of staying at CBR for longer trips.

We used to like POR until our first stay at CBR, we haven't been able to go back since.

No matter what room type you have, you won't be hiking all over the place unless you want to take an awesome stroll around the lake. Which I highly recommend. We do at least one lap around every couple days. So peaceful and beautiful.

But, I'm wondering, based on some posts, if it's really no advantage to take a preferred room? I'd love some input.

In our experience, the extra $$ for preferred is not worth it.

Previously, we stayed in the Royal Rooms at POR, amd I didn't think it was much of a walk...we've also stayed at the Cabins at FW, and only used the pool one day, so the size of the resort was no big deal. It's amazing how much people exaggerate about the walking at CBR. I can't tell you how many people I've seen post that "it literally took us 30 minutes to get from our room to the Main pool". Well I have the Map my walk app data that shows we have walked around the entire lake 2 times in 34 minutes. I really don't get it.

I'd love some recommendations on room types for those who are experienced with the resort. We have three kids (6, 9, 11) and plan to have a couple resort days this stay. I think we might sign the kids up for the Pirates cruise as well.

We always, always book Standard at CBR. There are quite a few Standard rooms that have an even shorter walk to OPR and the Main Feature Pool than some of the Preferred rooms. And so many Standard rooms are only 2-3 minutes longer walk than some of the Preferred rooms. Our 2 favorite locations are Jamaica 45 and Aruba 51. Both are a lovely 4 minute stroll across the bridge to OPR and the Main Feature Pool. The same distance as some of the Preferred Rooms.

Yes. I booked a water view a few years ago and was placed in Martinique. I had thought that I had to book preferred to get a room there. I was pleasantly surprised.

Yup, it's a little known secret that if you book a Water View or King Room you can be put in Barbados and Martinique. Hopefully they don't get too greedy and invent Water View Preferred and King Preferred categories and charge more $$. Shhhh.
