Favorite Advent Calendars??

I did something last year that could be converted to an advent calendar. I have three grandkids under 6, and we have a great thrift store in town. I picked up 24 Christmas books throughout the year, with the one for the 24th being The Night Before Christmas. I put them all in a large, wrapped Christmas box, and they were able to pull one out each night. I can’t take credit for this idea, though. I read about it somewhere years ago, and I did it for my 18 yr. old grandson when he was little, too.

@ctinct funny you mention that, I just saw it on Pinterest today and thought it would be a cute advent calendar! I think that's something I'll have to keep in mind- might be something fun to do when we have another baby as their "advent calendar" the first year when they're too little to understand, since my one year old would be older by then and would be getting one with bigger kid things.

I was so bummed about the Aldi wine calendar - when I went to buy one I was told that they were sold out within an hour of opening and that they won't be delivering any more stock this holiday season. The guy actually said, "Try again next year". :( I get everyone in my family an Advent calendar each year (it's one of our big gifts) and that was supposed to be the one for me. Bummer!

This year I'm doing a lottery ticket calendar for my DH, Bonne Maman for DD13, a charm bracelet calendar for DD9, and DS11 and I have yet to be decided... hoping to find something cool! I thought about making a beer one for myself, but I don't really drink 1 beer per night (more like 3 or 4 per week) and making it for myself kind of ruins the surprise.

So the past few years, I have gotten DD a Disney Tsum Tsum advent calendar from Costco or Target (the mini plastic figures). The only one I have seen this year is directly from Disney and is actual Tsum Tsum figures (and four times the cost). Any idea on if they will have the mini figure ones again? Any sightings?
Ooo, I've always wanted a plush tsum tsum calendar for the kids. That price is steep though. My FIL usually buys them a Lego calendar. He used to buy one for each kids but I said one was enough for the three of them to share. So if he was willing to buy three Lego calendars maybe he'll be willing to buy one of these.

I've been working on creating my own calendar for them. Like this.

I already have it half full but if FIL surprises them with the Tsum Tsum calendar everything i got will just shift to stocking stuffers!

If anyone sees a jerky one, I'd love a link.

I constructed my own beer advent calendars last night for DS24, his GF24 and my DN's husband34. It took a few hours because I wrapped each bottle so they couldn't tell what beer it is before they open it.

Now I just need to do the lottery ticket one for my DD19. It should go much faster.

I was at World Market a few days ago, and they had wine advent calendars. They were only for 12 days versus 24 days, but you could buy two! Here’s the link:

a type of advent calender that seems to be popular are cheese advent calendars. that might be fun depending on how old your boys are and if they are not lactose intolerant

Trader Joe's has an advent calendar for your dog. I'm a sucker, so I bought one.
Lol- I want to get my dog one as well.I got my son a lego one and my daughter a Tsum-tsum, but now I feel bad and want to do something for my dog as well since she was my first “baby” and she LOVES presents!
Where did you get it?

Trader Joe's. They were in pet aisle, not with their fancier chocolate ones.

This is such an incredible idea!

My cousin is having a hard time with her little 4 yr old at bedtime so I just did this too. I went to a local thrift store and they had a ton of very gently used Christmas themed books for kids at $1 each and get one free when you buy 4. I wrapped each book and labeled them December 1st through to 24th (and yes, I also stole your Night Before Christmas on the 24th idea too!) I put them in a holiday bag and labeled it "Read your way to Christmas". My cousin was thrilled and giggled that now she has a little leverage when it comes to bedtime!

Thank so much for posting this @ctinct
