January 2019

Just called and saved $203 on room only discount for 7 nights at CBR. Every little bit helps!

:smooth: Had to call but did get a discount....had to add a day and then modify through guest services
but would not self generate on the site. Worth the wait and got excellent service from both people I spoke with

A bit of a bummer that Contemporary and Poly are so much less of a discount than other Deluxe resorts but I understand why.

Our original reservation was: 1/1/19 to 1/12/19 for Pop standard room for 4 (2 adults, 2 kids both over 10) w/reg dining and 10 day/park hopper for $7,291.64. After applying PSD the package dropped to $6.367.10. For a savings of $924.54. We decided to switch our resort to CBR standard room w/5th sleeper for $6,574.20.

I was originally expecting about a $600 savings, so we are definitely happy with the final total. Good luck to everyone. Also we found the Disney Visa package was not as good as the PSD.

The fact that you were already paying for the regular dining plan is likely what made the PSD the better deal for you. AND the fact that mod resorts get a MUCH larger discount (45% off the cost of reg dining vs. 40% off the QS plan only at value) is what made that a good call. This deal was PERFECT for you guys! Glad it worked in your favor and you were able to save money AND upgrade :)

After further research with the Visa discount....we are paying about $58 more a night per person for the dining. I will have to figure out if we would actually spend that much on food if we paid OOP. I do like not having to worry about food costs while we are there though. So we might be paying for the convenience.

Thanks SouthFayetteFan for all the information.

Oh and now you've entered the super complicated world of "What would I ACTUALLY spend in cash to eat"...

Sorry to put you down that path, lol! (I joke). These discounts are seriously complex...you have the Gift of Magic...and you have the Visa offer (which offers 10% more but only at certain resorts) and you have the PSD which is just a discount on dining (but they can't just come out and say that)...It's tough to figure out which is best.

If you can pinpoint your actual food costs you can win this game and truly figure out which is best. I've done it before...my wife really enjoys me asking her "Hey what do you want to eat at Skipper Canteen on February 1st" :rotfl2:

After looking at the menu prices at some of the dinner reservations we have already made, we will probably save slightly more with PSD.

So...……
decided to go ahead and add on stay play dine. We got the midlevel plan. We were bouncing around adding on dining plan to our reservation but comparatively between the two packages it'd cost an additional $150. Our previous package had a bonus of puttputt, waterpark, espn, or 9 holes of golf. We figure the best way to use the bonus was to go to a waterpark but in January that may or may not have been doable. So the dining plan turns out to be better for us (hopefully) The nice thing about the dining plan is I don't have to force my 12 yr old son to order kids meals (although we may split adult quick serve meals anyway)

Our package now is midlevel dining plan, 5 park days, standard view pop century, 8 nights- $4364.16
previous package would have been midlevel dining plan, 5 park days plus 1 fun, standard view pop century 8 nights- 4529.99
savings $165.83

Lol! I know that drill well enough. What we did for our upcoming trip was easy enough. I had each person of our group to do one sample day using the menus online. To see if the regular DDP would work for us, I had them all pick one TS meal, one QS meal, and whatever snacks and drinks they might have during the day. The idea was to pick what you'd like, not what got you the most value from the plan. In the end two of us were close to the daily cost of the DDP and two of us were under. Next we asked ourselves if we really wanted a sit down meal every day. We all agreed that 3 or 4 or our favourite TS restaurants over the week would be all we really needed. At this point we knew we didn't need a dining plan this time. So we'll skip the DDP and have the freedom to eat what, where, and when we want to. So if we want to have lunch at Le Cellier and just have a couple of appetizers to share, we can. And we're lucky enough to have the room only discount along with our Canadian Ticket Offer, so we feel like we're getting a pretty fair discount this time.

So, I just modified my reservation online, by switching resorts.

But the email said:
WDW Vacation Confirmation.

Your order has not been completed.
Your confirmation is pending due to system availability, you will soon receive an email to inform you of the status of your order, once it was processed.

That was 4 hours ago.

Is this normal?
I am work and can't call, but I am worried that I may have now lost my original reservation if the new resort has no availability.

I also got a discount code in the mail so I called and had them compare and the new discount code would save me an additional $51 - so I had them change from the Gift of Magic discount! Total savings of $254! Yay!

WOOHOO! How did it come, as a postcard or envelope? Now I will be watching my mail....of course since I already have a reservation I always wonder if they even bother....were you already booked?

Hi! Last night I found out that we'll be at Disney for 2 days in early January so now I'm scrambling to try to find a room. I'm leaning towards a standard AKL room with the visa discount. I'm wondering if inventory is fluctuating much right now? Is it worth it for me to check the website multiple times a day, or has inventory change sort of smoothed out now that the discounts have been out for a few weeks?

I believe inventory is dynamic. I would continue to check back if you haven't found the exact room category & resort you want.
