I love credit cards so much!

I’ve booked a car four times through the UR portal. I cancelled twice (once I cancelled a trip and once I found a cheaper cash rate) and my points were returned almost immediately. Most of the time I thought the rates are better through the UR portal.
Great thanks.

I don't like Halloween either...but Nov 1 means my Christmas trees start to go up!

Not in our house. We celebrate and decorate for thanksgiving and christmas goes up the first weekend in december and comes down christmas day. We are all about celebrating and not skipping over a holiday. Might be part of why thanksgiving is my favorite plus there's food, family and football without the stress of presents. Though now that it's just mom and I the stress is gone too since no more step extended family we don't want to spend time with

Thanks for all of the great info, Lain. I'm currently 3/24 (drop to 2/24 in Feb) with no SPG or Marriott cards. I'll definite stay away from the Marriott card for now.
I want to hold a spot for a CSW biz and personal for late fall 2019 to try and get a CP. I guess my next step would be a CF, but the sign up bonus is so bad I almost hate to waste a spot on it. With being so low/24, it may be worth it to me to risk a spot on the SPG biz. If I get that, does that mean no other AMEX sign up bonus ever?
Oh, finally got my CIC approval this morning!

applying for another SPG biz will not get u another spg biz bonus. I think getting that card will also stop u from getting the marriott version as well. Amex biz cards will NOT count toward your 5/24.

We tried Alamo at MCO one time. Never again. It was years ago and they tried to force us to prepay the gas. And tried to bully us into buying their insurance when we said we were covered by our own and our credit cards. Woman said we needed to buy it to prevent them from suing us. I pay more if I have to, but won't ever rent a car through them. It was such a nasty and unpleasant way to start our trip.

This is why I mainly prefer Hertz/National.

I love the emerald/gold lanes in which you can just pick a car and drive off without having to stop at a desk. It's so dang easy.

I wonder if this is fairly recent...I thought I listed one in the early spring and it went right up.

It was my experience to wait 45 days with my Delta Card back in Jan/Feb.

IIRC, it took forever (okay probably the 45 days) the first time I sold some then the second and third went more quickly. This was earlier in the year so don't have excellent recall. I just figured they wanted to establish a relationship somehow so wasn't too surprised.
Not sure how it works currently (and won't until Jan again...if I stick with Delta) :)

Me too...I know for sure I've rented with DH's CSR and driven away and returned the car without anyone blinking an eye. Since I'm an Executive level (thanks Amex Plat!) with Emerald Club maybe that's why? :confused3 Now I'll make sure to bring my CSP for our car rental adventure in Oct!

SPG Lux bonus posted this morning!

I met spend on 9/14, but one of the transactions was held pending until 9/21. It was a payment to my electric company using speed pay so that I could use a credit card. Speed pay is through Western Union, so I'm wondering if they held it pending on purpose as I could see that the electric company had the funds almost immediately. I paid my water company the same way at the same time and that transaction cleared much sooner. Perhaps a $600 electric bill made them look at it.

In any case, my 100,000 are there now, which is what counts and all my spend was in fact organic (this time!).

Is it showing on Amex or did it already move to your Marriott/SPG account?

I usually put just the trees up and keep up some of the fall stuff and pull out turkey things. Usually on Friday after thanksgiving, all the fall comes down and we go full on Christmas like the Griswolds!

Maybe. If you haven't yet, you can status match Exec. Emerald with Hertz President's Circle Gold. Last time we were at HNL, we rented a brand new Wrangler with only 10 miles on it (Hertz had a better rate than National) and brought it back with mud all over it since my family lives far up in the mountains. The attendant barely looked at the Wrangler, gave us the receipt and we were out in less than 5 minutes!

Congratulations on the CIC!!! Fantastic card. Finally!

As you know, the Amex SPG Biz won’t count against your */24 count with Chase (neither will the CIC), so if you can manage the two MSRs ($3k in 3 months on the CIC, and $5k in 3 months on the SPG Biz), go for it! Note that Chase usually gives you 115 days after approval to meet MSR, but Amex gives you only 92 days to meet MSR. You can confirm the actual date by sending an SM to Chase or chatting with Amex. The current 100k Marriott points offer on the SPG Biz expires 10/31/18, so you could space out your app until then to give you more time to meet MSRs. The 100k Marriott points offer is almost as good as the previous the highest offer of 35k Starpoints pre-merger; 35k Starpoints translates to 105k Marriott points post-merger.

Getting the SPG Biz won’t disqualify you from getting the welcome bonuses on the SPG Personal or Lux (or any other Amex card product besides the SPG Biz). The SPG Biz will, generally speaking, make you ineligible for the Marriott Premier Plus and Marriott Biz. (Check the VftW link in my prior post.) Amex considers the SPG Biz, Personal, and Lux separate card products, and you’re potentially eligible for the welcome bonuses on each one.

However, Amex implemented some sort of anti-churning algorithm that considers your history of opening, closing, and spending on cards to determine whether you’re eligible for a welcome bonus. The days of opening new Amex cards, meeting MSR to get the bonus, and sock drawing the card until it’s time to cancel at one year, are done. Amex seems to want to see you put continuing spend on their cards if you want to be approved with a bonus for new cards.

I'm only on pg 2470 - just have to pop in and say I need to relabel DHs cards ASAP. We only took his SPG Lux, CSR, and my Freedom on the trip (I meant to take another card or two as backup and forgot). But he was all over the place with what he used if I wasn't there to tell him. I had tried to tell him we should charge everything possible at Universal to the room, with his CSR on file because his travel credit just reset. And that we should charge all Dolphin charges including Shula's and Picabu to the room with his SPG Lux on file. And beyond that, if it was a food/travel charge use his CSR, anything else on his AMEX. We upgraded at the desk for A1-15 boarding with SW last night because I forgot to check in, at the lovely tune of $100 :crazy2: and he put it on the SPG Lux. We would have been at $2250 on MSR if things had gone to the CSR like I'd planned... instead we're at $2400... not the end of the world but it's just, we are doing fine with MSR as we are only 30 days in today so we can still charge to other cards too for bonus categories!

On that note, I added up our Lyft trips and I know we each need 1 tank of gas before the end of the month... That puts us at $1050 on my Freedom for Q3, need to decide if I push for another $450.

DHs Hilton Biz needs another $175, it was opened Aug 2nd.

AMEX was doing clawbacks on the Staples offers, right? I've used $650 on one card and none on the other two - both are in DHs name, one is his account and one is an employee card on my account. I've been wondering if using both would trigger a clawback. I've got about $1200 left on the Lowe's offers to use.

And I'm officially in countdown mode for applying for my CIP - 7 days! :cool1:

@disneymagicgirl So I have a happy ending to my Marriott travel package deal. A recap: I booked the 270k mile cat 1-5 nights and flights package w/ 120k SW miles about a month pre-merger because that was the best miles package I had the points for at that time. I intended to upgrade it when my signup points posted to use it at the Residence Inn Maui Wailea--an old cat 8 that would have cost 90k points to upgrade (360 total). Fast forward to the merger where the rumors were that NO upgrades could be made and the best you could do was a 45k refund for the nights portion of the package. That would have cost me a total of 435k points which I didn't have so needless to say I have been stressing about it. Over the past few days on FT I saw some reports of people upgrading their old Cat 1-5 to a new Cat 1-4 then upgrading for 60k points per category. First call I made the guy said they would refund me the 45K miles then I would re-buy the cert for 105k miles which made zero sense but the the next rep I tried (HUCA) not only upgraded me but told me he wasn't charging me since I had booked before the merger and I shouldn't have to pay more due to the category change (I have a feeling he didn't understand I purposely bought a lower category with the intention of upgrading...I didn't correct him :rolleyes1).. He cancelled my old cat 1-5, I am assuming ordered the new cat 6, and didn't touch my 105k points balance:cool1:. The reservation looks a little odd and it made me paranoid so I called after I hung up and the rep confirmed I am all set, owe no further points, and have the correct cert attached.

So a recap is that for 270k Marriott points I got 120k SW plus 7 nights in Hawaii--the cost of the room for our dates is $3825. I feel kind of bad because I definitely think the rep was incorrect in what he did but I will take a little pixiedust: where I can get it.

Thx for the update! I have been following that thread too and calling is on my to-do list as well. Did you call the US number? Seems people were having good luck calling the UK.

I have spent a fair amount of time looking for FPs for friends. I would suggest the night before your HS day or that morning, if you have down time, try refreshing repeatedly. SDD usually shows up eventually.
I agree. It showed up for my shortly after park opening on our arrival day. I was happily refreshing on the app while my plane was taxiing to the gate. The FP was for 2 hours later so we hustled but had time to spare.

.
Regardless, I pay no attention to those insurance benefits on cards anyways lol. Last time I rented a car I probably put it on whatever card I was working on MSR. I probably will just continue to pay it no mind haha.

The fact that the Sapphire coverage is primary is a huge deal to me. An accident does not need to be reported to our auto insurance company. Having had 3 driving teenagers through the years, we have been dropped by an insurance company for 2 accidents within a year. Before I got my Sapphire I used AmEx's premium rental coverage.

That's my niece. Mine are all preteen and older. My girls only went through the princess stage for a very short time so I really enjoyed having a little princess with me for a few hours at MK.

I thought all your kids were older. My girls were in the princess stage until they could no longer buy princess dresses their size lol. I miss that so much!

PSA: Disney is having MAJOR problems at the parks with 3rd party tickets (at least for us).

Just came back from WDW and me and the GF had one of the most frustrating experiences with Disney. I know we don't talk about trip reports on here that much, but I booked this stay with "magical" rates which aren't really talked about broadly on these forums besides this thread and a few others. As you know the "Magical" rates don't come with regular tickets, but convention tickets and a added water park bonus.

- Showed up to Epcot on rope drop the first day, MB not working. CM directed us to the ticket booths, in which a manager got involved because either of the ticket booth agents could find our tickets on one system and not the other. Manager called IT, which took another 30 minutes so she comped us two park hoppers for the day just to not waste any more of our time. Advised us to see guest relations later in the day. Saw guest relations and the CM seemed to know what exactly what was going on. She said we needed to go back to Pop because the hotel system and theme park system weren't communicating with each other. Pop couldn't find out what was going on with our tickets, but said they would comp us another 1 day park hopper and water park tickets. Both comp tickets showed up on MDE later that night.

- Showed up to Blizzard Beach the second day, MB is still not working. GR CM at the gate walked us over to the booth and took nearly 45 minutes with us on the phone with IT to try to solve the problem with our tickets. CM can see the park hopper and comp tickets, but neither is working. CM said that IT "reset" our accounts and it eventually worked. Headed back to the hotel after BB and both of our MB's don't work to get into our room :badpc:. Headed back to the concierge at Pop, and asked about the additional 1 day hopper for the next day. CM says they can see it on my account and everything is all set.

- Arrived at Magic Kingdom on the last day and guess what... MB's don't work. CM advised us to see guest relations, but the line was nearly 150 people long so we decided to head to Animal Kingdom instead. After another hour or so at GR, the CM fixed it for us again. Told us they have been having problems all week with the systems and it has been absolute hell for the CM's. We thought "great, today is the last day and we won't have any more problems since we are leaving tomorrow." Lunch time came and we headed to Satuli Canteen and guess what... MB won't let us charge anything to our room. THANK GOODNESS we had Apple Pay authorized on our phones because we usually leave our wallets in the safe to pack light for the day.

It sucked because the CM's were so nice about everything and they really tried to fix it, but it's so out of their control. It seemed like it was specifically the 3rd party tickets that was giving our accounts so many issues and if I knew we were going to have so many problems, I would have bought them from Disney direct instead and booked the discounted room at the Swan instead. At every ticket booth we had to go to, there was another guest who had the same exact problem we were having with not being able to access tickets.

I almost feel like posting this in a separate thread, but I don't want to have half the forum asking what a "magical" rate is.

EDIT: We booked the "magical" rates in 2017 and had absolutely zero issues with our stay.

Wow guys... I emailed Disney about the above problems we had during our stay and the CSR apologized and offered complimentary 3 day park hoppers for both of us. Me and the GF were just about to hang up the ears and try to churn for another destination, but they sucked us back in. Now to churn for another WDW stay, haha.

Very nice but completely deserved for what you went through!

OK, advice needed.

I need my SWCP for dec flights for sure and prob thanksgiving as well.
I got my SW biz on 8/30. General rule to wait 60-90 days btwn apps isn't going to work out so great for me. If I wait til 11/1 I will be cutting it real close to our 12/13 flight. I think I am going to app sometime soon after 10/1. That will put me a bit over 30 days since a chase app..not ideal. But, I haven't opened another chase personal since 6/17 (CSP). I got a CIP 1/18. Then my SW biz 8/30/18. Only other personal was SPG in 4/18. I put alot of spend on chase cards every month. Legit spend. Thousands of dollars. So I think I am a pretty good customer.

All my URs are shuffled over to DH's CSR. So I guess if a shutdown happened it wouldn't be all that detrimental.

What do you pros say? Any DPs of something similar you remember?

I am 30k RR away from CP. I suppose if I fail at my plan I could somehow make CP by shuffling everything over to my SW biz from now til end of year. I always could top off with DD's Jan tuition if needed. This is just a backup plan.
