"No, We're Not Getting Married at Disney!" a 2018 tripS report - update 10/25 AKL food + DHS Day

April 5, continued: girls night on the Bo Dwalk!

So. Bad trip reporter! I did not take room photos. But I snagged these from the interwebs:

That's pretty much what the deluxe alcove room looked like. We'd booked a double/double alcove room but they didn't have one for us and put us in a King alcove. The phone agent we talked with when we called down about the mix up was pretty rude and had to put us on hold several times as she was telling us that the room we had a booking confirmation for wasn't even a room type there... facepalm. (BTW it is, there are photos of them on the Dolphin website) We ended up with some resort credit after E used teacher voice on them.
:rotfl:

The rooms connected at the corner and the other one looked more or less like this stock photo. We had two huge sets of windows in the connecting room since we were in a corner.

IMG_0775.JPG
This was taken of me in the deluxe alcove room, the room worked out great for us since we could pull the chairs around the L-shaped sofa and have seats for everyone.

E decorated! The baskets were her gift swag for everyone and the white bags were my gift swag as a thank you to my friends for coming. I made them all a unique pair of ears and gifted each person with a collapsible water bottle like this

and I had these super cute buttons made!!!!

I also put in glow sticks and stickers, fun little things like that. We popped champagne in the room and just hung out. I think I probably made everyone watch a loop of Stacey's must dos that you must do when you're doing your must dos at Disney! At this point we were still waiting on a couple of girls to get to town and my friend Ash that lives in Orlando had to work, so wouldn't be joining us. The four of us ended up going to...

CAN YOU GUESS?

Il Mulino :rotfl:

giphy.gif

Everyone was pretty tired - I had gotten up early to catch my flight, E and Kay had driven from Atlanta, and Sarah had gotten an early morning to finish things at home before picking me up at the airport. We wanted something convenient and nearby, so Il Mulino lounge suited us perfectly.

We all started with drinks, of course!

I had the Testarossa again ( Florida's Own St. Augustine Vodka, Grand Marnier, Fresh Cranberry Juice, muddled with Local Strawberries and Fresh Basil leaves topped with Fresh Ground Pepper - $15) , while Sarah had an aperol spritz ($13), Kay had the White Sangria (Sauvignon Blanc, Ketel One Vodka, Orange Juice, Pineapple Juice, Agave Simple Syrup, and Elderflower Liqueur - $13), and E tried the Mezcal Martini (Mezcal, pureed mango, spicy serrano pepper - $14).

We decided to start with apps and see if anyone needed more food afterward:

Meatballs, with an extra meatball ($16) "Polpette Al Forno - Italian Meatballs with Tomato Basil Sauce and Parmesan Cheese". You already know how I feel about these

Arancini, with an extra arancini ($12) - " Italian Rice Balls over Spicy Marinara Sauce" :thumbsup2

Insacccati Misti ($24) "A platter of Italian Delights: Prosciutto, Mortadella, Soprassata, Cacciatorini, Parmigiano Reggiano, Roasted Red Peppers, Cherry Vinegar Peppers, and Buffalo Mozzarella" This was a very nice cheese and charcuterie spread. It came with SO MUCH parmigiano! We couldn't even finish it and we are no strangers to a cheese plate! We also went through a few dishes of the delicious little cheese crackers.

We passed on dessert in order to continue our Bo Dwalk evening, as I had something else in mind for a sweet treat. With TIW and gratuity, $110.42.

Have you been wondering what in the heezy I was talking about with the "Bo Dwalk"?

They didn't fix this the whole time we were there so it gave us a good laugh. You could see this sign well from our room so it was a funny theme for our weekend of fun!

Our destination, of course, was my faaaavorite place on the Boardwalk. I couldn't have E back at Disney for her first time in ages without showing her why I love it so much!

Ample Hills!!!!

We had such a great experience here this evening. There was a bit of a line, so a wonderful cm started a conversation with us and chatted with us the whole time while we waited. She told us about a friend who was engaged and we talked about my wedding too. Then when we got to the front of the line, she had her friend working behind the counter set me up with ice cream of my choice FOR FREE!!!! These ladies were soooo sweet. I even got their names! Alex and Natalie. It is always so special when cast members take time out of their busy shifts to make some magic and these ladies had it right! It was awesome.

She totally hooked me up with more ice cream than I even should have gotten for what I ordered and then she put those stinking adorable mouse ears on it! According to the CMs, the small cup is supposed to be two scoops - BUT - if you are willing to get a bit smaller of a scoop, you can totally do THREE flavors (just a smaller amount of each) :cloud9: so of course I went with the Nonna D's Oatmeal Lace (a bad habit I picked up from my grandma friend @Vernie822), the ooey gooey butter cake, and dark chocolate. SO amazingly good. The oatmeal lace continues to be my favorite but I love to taste them all.

I could tell you that we went on from here to have a wild and crazy night at Jellyrolls, singing our hearts out and drinking 56 drinks each, but it would be a lie.

E asked if I wanted to do Jellyrolls as it had been on the tentative itinerary and I abruptly blurted out NO! I was tired, happy, and full of ice cream. No one else really wanted to stay out either and I was afraid to exhaust everyone at the beginning of the trip. We took "the long way home", as I wanted to show the girls the beautiful view of the Boardwalk from across Crescent Lake on the Yacht and Beach side. While we were out, we got to see some of the high fireworks from Epcot. Depending on where we were at the time, you could also hear faint strains of the Illuminations music. My favorite!

(these are actually from a previous trip, I was a bad photographer during the bachelorette trip. Just wanted to explain why you don't see the fence on the beach that has since been installed)

Jules, my roomie in our half of the connecting room, had arrived. We chit chatted in bed for a while before hitting the hay. We had an early morning the next morning at ANIMAL KINGDOM!!!

Looks like a wonderful first evening, your ice cream at Ample Hills, yum!!

It looks like the room set-up would work well for a group celebrating.

The Boardwalk area is so pretty at night.

I hope the tour works out MUCH better than the last time!! Tim got to take a tour of the Christmas Warehouse and he LOVED it. He thought it was really cool.
I have never been to Ample Hills, but the ice cream sure looks amazing. I just never have a chance to fit it in...

I just have to say that I loved every detail of your wedding day! Thank you so much for sharing everything with us. You two are simply glowing with happiness. I love it!

As for "mutual weirdness forever"...... best ever!!! I only wish I had have thought of it for my own wedding, lol!

A Disney bachelorette really couldn't be more perfect. So, so fun!

What a great looking room. I'll have to keep the Swalphin on my radar for future trips.

E decorated! The baskets were her gift swag for everyone and the white bags were my gift swag as a thank you to my friends for coming. I made them all a unique pair of ears and gifted each person with a collapsible water bottle like this
Wow you guys really went all out. Clear you are all very lucky girls :-)

Sounds like a great way to start the evening.

I had no idea you could add extra meatballs or arancini. Great tip!

Yum, Yum, Yum, and Yum!!!! What a beautiful and HUGE charcuterie board. Though it is a bit odd they would just serve parm by itself. Maybe I'm in the minority but I don't think I've ever done anything with parm then put it on something, not just eat it.

Have you been wondering what in the heezy I was talking about with the "Bo Dwalk"?

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: And here I thought this was some cool new Boardwalk slang you were clueing us in on. Bo Dwalk or Boardwalk, you have me so excited for our trips in just a few days!!!!!

She totally hooked me up with more ice cream than I even should have gotten for what I ordered and then she put those stinking adorable mouse ears on it! Awesome they gave you some free ice cream and let you cram in some extra flavors. I'm sure we will be here several times on our trip. And thanks for letting me know about the Oatmeal lace. The butter cake was on my radar, but not this one. They both sound amazing.

Since you are so sweet to indulge my wedding shenanigans I wanted to share one more of my favorite photos, this is the $9 guest:

Oh my goodness, bless his heart! This is an awesome photo. I love being able to look back on little moments like this from your wedding—those are the memories that will stick with you.

But my house did look like this for the weekend....

Holy flowers, batman!

Your dress was perfect though and you looked like a doll! (I mean that in a complimentary way.) I just went and looked at your first look photos again to remind myself what your dress looked like and now I'm crying all over again... I blame (credit?) you, Alyssa, and Fallon for getting me obsessed with Disney weddings!!!

Oh, thank you so much! It really was an awesome fairytale kind of day. Disney weddings...:lovestruc:lovestruc So stupidly expensive...now more so than ever before....so I'm glad we got in on ours when we did!!....but so special. :lovestruc

I am secretly (or maybe not so secretly) petty so I did this side by side comparison of our edited photos and a photo one of my guests took of the same centerpiece

Wow. Yeah, it's definitely a big difference. I feel like there would have been a way to preserve her stylistic goals and still keep the colours true to the flowers you worked so hard on. It's a pretty big difference.

For what it's worth, my cousin is a professional photographer (though not for weddings) and her photos are edited very similarly to our professional photos, so I decided just to be glad for what I got at the price we paid and move on. After all, they're only flowers.

It does seem to be the style with wedding photography these days. And for the most part I kind of like that style, at least in some cases. It kind of has an old-timey classic vibe to it. But I don't like that it distorted they way things actually looked at your wedding, rather than just enhancing that. And it's not really cool that the style changed so much from what you had as a reference when you booked her, and she didn't honour that. I feel like I can totally understand your frustration though because I'm very picky about photography, and I was worried we wouldn't like our wedding photos by the Disney photographer. Fortunately, we got lucky with our photographer, Amanda. But even then I'm really glad she took so many photos because there were a lot of them that I didn't like, and I felt like I had to dig through a bit to find the ones I loved.

The idea of a Disney bachelorette as a "grown up spring break" was born!

I love this!

I got some chick-fil-a for breakfast at MCO

Yum! Breakfast of champions! Also, side note, I recently heard something about Canada possibly getting Chick-fil-a, which seems so strange to me!

Love this photo!

BaiJoe Punch: Chinese Bai Jiu Spirit, Lychee, Coconut and Pineapple Juice – $11.00. Weird, but full size. And the China CMs pour a nice heavy handed cocktail. :thumbsup2

This sounds so interesting! Weird, but interesting. My aunt teaches ASL in China, and she has been offered her share of baijiu over the years. She's not a fan. But maybe in a weird cocktail like this!

I went to go tell Sarah and get her second choice and the bartender called to me and told me that literally just that minute someone had brought them more mix. Which I saw and it was like from a giant commercial jug of dark red Kool-aid looking thick syrup, similar to this but I did not see if this was the brand:

OjE2Hinl.png

Um...ew.

plus you get to visit DISNEY FLORAL HEADQUARTERS :worship:

Omg! The dream!!!!

then you end the tour at Amorette's getting to decorate your own gingerbread treat.

This just keeps getting better!!

It sounds like the tour should be vastly improved! I hope you enjoy it.

I made them all a unique pair of ears and gifted each person with a collapsible water bottle

This is so cool of you! Also, the ears you made are beautiful. I'm so impressed! I can see why you sold them.

These are soo cute!

I think I probably made everyone watch a loop of Stacey's must dos that you must do when you're doing your must dos at Disney! A

Of course!!

Oh my goodness, this is amazing! And I love that they added a little extra magic with the adorable tiny Mickey ears. :lovestruc Those flavours sound delish.

Looks like a wonderful first evening, your ice cream at Ample Hills, yum!!

It looks like the room set-up would work well for a group celebrating.

The Boardwalk area is so pretty at night.
It was so wonderful! The bigger room was great, it was nice having a seating area for us to gather and hang out. My only complaint was the Stacey channel didn't come in very well! :rotfl:

I hope the tour works out MUCH better than the last time!! Tim got to take a tour of the Christmas Warehouse and he LOVED it. He thought it was really cool.
I have never been to Ample Hills, but the ice cream sure looks amazing. I just never have a chance to fit it in...
Well if I have learned nothing else from the last four years it's that there's ALWAYS next time! I believe in you, you will get to Ample Hills eventually

I am really really looking forward to the re-vamped tour. The warehouse tour was almost worth it alone last time, the rest of the tour was just boring, but it sounds like that's what they replaced! No more pinecones!!!!

So, so fun!

Thank you so much :flower3: I think every recent bride loves talking about her wedding so it was fun to relive it with my "online friends" :D

The Disney bachelorette was absolutely fabulous! I will get another post up soon, I've just been busy with work and getting ready for the next big adventure! (Just over one week for me! Yay!!!)

What a great looking room. I'll have to keep the Swalphin on my radar for future trips.
Yes! I am considering it for the big GIRLS TRIP in the spring, for sure! I was planning to use DVC points for that visit but it looks like I may get to spend my points at Aulani over Christmas for a shortie stay instead... :D

Wow you guys really went all out. Clear you are all very lucky girls :-)
Well I don't know about my friends, but I felt like the luckiest girl in the world the whole time on that trip. It was... to use a disney word... MAGICAL!

I had no idea you could add extra meatballs or arancini. Great tip!
I didn't know that either! We had a great server who recommended it to us since we were a party of four. It worked out perfectly and was just 1/3 of the price more.

Yum, Yum, Yum, and Yum!!!! What a beautiful and HUGE charcuterie board. Though it is a bit odd they would just serve parm by itself. Maybe I'm in the minority but I don't think I've ever done anything with parm then put it on something, not just eat it.
I don't think you're in the minority, I can't remember ever being served a big ol' block of parm on any other cheese plate. It was really good on this one, just a little too much, not that I am complaining about EXTRA CHEESE!

Bo Dwalk or Boardwalk, you have me so excited for our trips in just a few days!!!!!
:yay: believe me, the countdown is getting me through this hump day...

I'm sure we will be here several times on our trip. And thanks for letting me know about the Oatmeal lace. The butter cake was on my radar, but not this one. They both sound amazing.
I hope you make it there many times! I highly highly highly recommend the flight so that you can have a few bites of all those flavors! They will also let you taste any flavors you want. Okay haven't had lunch yet and now I want ice cream...

@MeghanEmily Trying to control myself with my responses to you as I know you're departing for your big travel plans!!! :hyper::hyper::hyper:

Wow. Yeah, it's definitely a big difference. I feel like there would have been a way to preserve her stylistic goals and still keep the colours true to the flowers you worked so hard on. It's a pretty big difference.

As I already admitted, I was creeping back through your wedding posts and saw that you mentioned that you weren't crazy that the colors turned out in your photos to be not the true cobalt blue you had picked for your wedding colors. So, I guess it's a common complaint! You've inspired me though with the AK park shoot, maybe I will just continue to get anniversary photos taken.

Omg! The dream!!!!

This just keeps getting better!!

It sounds like the tour should be vastly improved! I hope you enjoy it.
I am so so excited about this and looking forward to hearing about all of your fabulous tours after you get back from your funanza!!!

Life/PTR Update:

I've gotten super busy again at work so I don't know if I'll get another update in on the April trip before we head down to WDW next week. I am so excited! :dance3: It's been two years since I have been at Disney around my birthday time, and I went the two years in a row prior to that, so I am really looking forward to celebrating again at the most magical place on earth! This week I am lining up petcare (I can't remember the last time I had to worry about arranging Boarding or a sitter for my little Avery since we've either had a friend of my sister's watch all the family dogs or my mom keeps her when she's not traveling with us).

hue4OAvl.png

(she's saying "Don't leave me... but also... don't take me with you, I hate the car!")

I also got a notification this week that my waitlist for Aulani matched for our Christmas trip plans for one night, I'm still trying to wait before finalizing anything because it's way more convenient for us to stop on the way BACK from Maui than on the way there.

Speaking of that trip, I decided to get myself a GoPro for snorkeling in Hawaii and it's supposed to be delivered tomorrow, so I am looking forward to playing with it during our Disney adventures next week. I've read several times that it's impossible to get good food photos with a GoPro  so I guess I will have to bring my camera too. Anyone used a GoPro as their main travel camera, especially at Disney?

Facebook reminded me this morning that I was in Disney around this time 12 years ago...

I LOVED Spectro Magic but was terrified of these clown things

I hope you are all having a fantastic week. :wave2:

Just popping in again to say hi and share a photo I found that I love from one of my earlier WDW trips when I lugged my big DSLR around everywhere.

2014-08-14_001620000_EC87A_iOS.jpg

Maybe it was worth it after all?

Can't stop doing the happy dance!!! 5 more sleeps :hyper:

Hope everyone has a great weekend - we are off to a lake party at my boss' lake house and then R is going to his nephew's birthday party while I spend time with my friend who's been living in Saudi Arabia. A busy but wonderful weekend!

I am slowly catching up on your report.

Rillettes du Mans, Cornichons, Carré du Boulanger: House-made Pork Rillettes, Cornichons and House-made Bread – $8.75
How was this? We were looking at it but I wasn't really sure what it even was...

And of course I had to pair it with another Frosé: Frozen Côtes de Provence Rosé Wine with Grey Goose Vodka and Peach Purée – $11.00
Always delightful.

8k1dRO7.png

YESSSS! This was everything I'd remembered, but with a totally unnecessary disgusting cup of plastic cheese (and not the good kind from a pump)
Hmm, if they still have this when we are there again, I might have to try it. Morgan almost always gets a regular mickey pretzel from here. And I have to admit it, we like the cheddar cheese sauce that they come with. But I don't think we really enjoyed the fake cheese from a pump, so maybe we just don't know what we are missing.

We found seats in the lounge with no delay and orderd our usual, the bread service with all 9 dips. ($16)

Q1Pghmc.png
Oh my favorite!!! And you need to have all the dips. I really want to come back here, but I think we are going to do BOMA instead this time.

I love the flower combination that you did. So beautiful. All of your wedding photos are amazing. I love the style you both have.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU CAN'T SEE IT?! :rotfl:

Yeah, my nose was pretty much glued to the window.
I didn't know you could even see it. I will have to tell Morgan next time to try and find it!

Priorities! I then proceeded to conduct a photo shoot with my beloved...
YES!!! Good Priorities!

I should have passed, but I was excited to try it, so we did! Neither of us liked it. It tasted very artificial. I don't know if ours were made wrong or what, but I'm not rushing back to try another one.
I am with you... I def will not be ordering that again. And especially now that I know it comes from that giant bottle. Boo.

E decorated! The baskets were her gift swag for everyone and the white bags were my gift swag as a thank you to my friends for coming. I made them all a unique pair of ears and gifted each person with a collapsible water bottle like this
Love it! So festive!

Beautiful. Sounds like a great way to start the trip.

I've gotten super busy again at work so I don't know if I'll get another update in on the April trip before we head down to WDW next week. I am so excited! :dance3: It
EYAH!!! Have a great time!

Wow, quotes will not work for me! I just want to say you’re the best daughter ever for surprising your momma with that thanksgiving and your trip :love::love::love: also, I decided to do swan as second part of my split stay thanks to your raves and other raves (from raeven I think). Very excited about being able to walk to ample hills and Epcot!

Hi Melinda followed your links in your siggy from the PTR thread Epic Girls only trip. Had to come read some of your TR's so when we meet next May we'll better know each other. I've had feeling since your avatar shows you with a cocktail that we'd get along just great. Looking forward to the read. popcorn::

Loved all of your wedding pictures. Your dress was gorgeous, so cool that all the guys wore Hawaiian shirts. Your flowers were gorgeous. I loved the individuality & simplicity of your wedding. I can't believe how calm and collected you were.

Happy belated birthday.

Excited cheese[/QUOTE] Love the Minnie on your shirt.

How exciting a bachelorette party at Disney how fun

I wanted to stop for a drink at Hurricane Hannah's I'd heard highly lauded by some Dis dining buddies
This place was packed last December when we went to Beaches and Cream.

I have a go-pro which I used for the first time for our last cruise. But I was juggling a point and shoot, my iphone, and the gopro which was difficult. I think I may just take it easy and just use my iphone from now on. The gopro was cool for vlogging and video. for pictures it is good for wide angles, but yes for detailed food pics, probably would use your phone or another camera.

Your Hawaii plans are so exciting! Another stay at Aulani....:cloud9:
Hope you're having a magical time in WDW!

I am slowly catching up on your report.
I feel like I am so behind on everyone's reports, not to mention my own!!!

How was this? We were looking at it but I wasn't really sure what it even was...
Oh it was so good, it was like meat butter! R lurks and reads my reports sometimes when he is bored and when he got to the photo of the rillettes he even mentioned how good it was and how much we enjoyed it. We just needed more bread!!

:rotfl: I guess I am a chemical cheese connoisseur then... I like the plastic cup of cheese when I have a plain pretzel, just not with the pepperjack pretzel. Try one if you're in the area! They're delicious.

Oh my favorite!!! And you need to have all the dips. I really want to come back here, but I think we are going to do BOMA instead this time.
Oh I love Boma. We have only done dinner once and my whole family was sick so I am ready for a do-over! I mainly remember loving the soup and a wine flight I had.

I didn't know you could even see it. I will have to tell Morgan next time to try and find it!
I'm sure my mini-me will love looking for it on the horizon! It's fun to see the sights from the air. I'm not good at picking much of anything out except for Disney and the Orlando Eye, though. I'm not that familiar with the geography otherwise!

EYAH!!! Have a great time!
Thank you, we had such an amazing and fun trip! I need to get moving on the April part so I can write about my birthday!!!

Wow, quotes will not work for me! The stinking quotes only work for me part of the time, too, so no worries! My phone and the Dis do NOT play nice together either.

I caved and told mom about the tour... I am no good at secrets! She was really excited but I think my husband might be more excited than she is and I did NOT think he would be into it. I've created monsters!!! :rotfl:

I hope you love the Swan! It's so nice to have a heavenly bed to come back to after a long park day (or you know, a long lounge day, whatever your priorities :rotfl2:) and I just love the Westin White Tea fragrance!!!

Hi Melinda followed your links in your siggy from the PTR thread Epic Girls only trip. Had to come read some of your TR's so when we meet next May we'll better know each other. :welcome:

I was lurking along in the Bra TR but I can't remember if I ever said hi. I am sure we will be thick as thieves soon!

This has been on my must ry list for a while and still haven't tried it yet. I've herad they were large but didn't realize how massive. LOL. Enjoyed your JAN 2018 TR.
Oh man, they are giant! And yummy. Thanks for reading!!!

Loved all of your wedding pictures. Your dress was gorgeous, so cool that all the guys wore Hawaiian shirts. Your flowers were gorgeous. I loved the individuality & simplicity of your wedding. I can't believe how calm and collected you were.

Happy belated birthday.
Thank you on both accounts :flower3: I can't believe how calm I was either, I am usually a control freak. I was just too happy to be stressed I guess!!

Love the Minnie on your shirt.

My mom has a really cool embroidery machine and we made it together! I put the Mickey head over the logo of my old employer on this tee shirt :D I love the shirt, it's so soft, but didn't feel like I needed to advertise for them anymore... :rotfl:
