Spring Break airfare (Mar 23-30) from Chicago

Thinking of doing Disney for our Spring break, since my wife's schedule and kids' schedule matches for the first time. Looking at fares now, and they are crazy at this point. Is this because it is so early? I normally take Southwest, so I know that their dates will eventually open up. When do the other airlines really start to open up? Any tips for those that have flown during this time?

TIA!

It’s because it’s prime spring break season. Just keep an eye on it and when you see a fare you think is reasonable, book it.

:) I understand that theory well, just wasn't sure if the prices were SO high now because most flights haven't opened up yet, or because it's Spring Break. Wasn't sure when the approximate window for other airlines happens.

Probably both. I would think if prices are too high there will be less demand and maybe a drop in price.

Way too early to look for airfare for March 2019. Best fares will probably be sometime from early Nov. thru Jan.

Thanks! Haven't booked for March before, so wasn't sure about the timing of it. In the past we've always booked in June with Southwest, so I would just stalk their website until the date was released, and then book first thing. Not sure if I'll have the points this time around though, so I may look at other airlines.

We go during Easter week and have bought our plane tickets in July the past two years. We fly Jet Blue so they tend to open those dates in the summer. I tracked my flight prices from the time I bought in July until we actually took our trip and the price never went lower than what we paid. I know that's not always true but it's what happened for us.

We go spring break every year (April for Massachusetts). I always start looking as soon as flights open. I usually buy in June for the following April. The flights never have gotten cheaper with time. I would not wait - if you see something reasonable, you should grab it. I'm with @amymgould I would never wait til Nov-Jan for spring break...I've looked out of curiosity and it's always been much more expensive the closer to spring break than it was to buy in early summer....every time (for us anyway). This might not be true if you have flexible dates, but if you have to do Sat to Sat of public school spring break, it's the truth.
