Has anyone stayed at The Anaheim Hotel?

I’m trying to find a hotel for our upcoming stay in June. I want something within a 15 min walk to the parks. I’ve been reading a bunch of threads on here and came across this one but I can’t find any reviews on here about it. So I wondered if anyone has stayed there, and what they thought of it?

I stayed there when it was The Anaheim Plaza Hotel and Suites but not since the update and name change. It was so old and nothing amazing before the remodel but it was close enough, always had a good price and had good water pressure. Which are really the things we look for in an off property stay.

We stayed there last summer. I’m pretty easy to please, generally just ask for a clean, quiet room, bed not be terribly uncomfortable, and warm water for a shower. With that in mind, I wouldn’t stay there again. Our room smelled very strongly of mildew, and the carpet felt almost damp. It also looked very dirty. I think less from lack of cleaning, but because it was very old. As for the smell, I think it came from the air conditioning unit. It was enough to put me off the property, unless they renovate all the rooms fully, which I don’t believe they have.
I will say that the bedding was clean and the bed was comfortable. The room was spacious, and the staff was friendly. But it just didn’t feel very clean. I have heard they have done some renovations to some of the rooms. If you book there perhaps you can request a renovated room.

What is it's rate? I haven't heard that one mentioned often...

The Motel 6 is an affordable place within walking distance (though on the verge of too far if you have kids).

Some of those old Anaheim motels are scary! When I was a road-tripping teen we stayed at a place on Ball Rd. called The Viking Inn and there was a soggy spot where some bathroom plumbing was leaking into the bedroom... It had a terrible attached restaurant. It was VERY cheap and pretty sketchy. I remember we chose it by finding the entrance to the Disneyland parking garage and then driving down that road until the prices on the motel signs dropped lower and lower. :D My mom would not have approved of our "cheap motel" choices on that trip!

Luckily most of those places got torn down and replaced, but there are a few still hanging on.

My impression from reading recent/relatively recent postings about The Anaheim Hotel is that the best thing about it is that it houses The Pizza Press. The old Anaheim Plaza hotel was nothing to write home about. Cheap hotel, low rates, poor service. But I've read/heard that the new management did nothing but a superficial revamp and raised the prices, but didn't really change the basic problems from before. Friends have told me they won't stay there again, so we've never really bothered looking into it as a real option. However, we like The Pizza Press and go often enough.

Thanks all! I will keep looking. I'll check prices on some suggested. Also going to look at Candy Cane Inn.

And its managed by the same people who managed The Anabella which has been torn down (not surprised at all). I won a free trip for three nights stay at The Anabella so we upgraded to a suite with a room with bunk beds for our boys and an additional room with a day bed for my daughter so we were all spaced out. The A/C was a wall unit that pumped air into our room not the kids rooms. (In July) and the flooring on the pool was coming up and pool water was foggy. Due to this I personally would steer clear of this motel.

We stayed there in Sept. Nothing fancy but it was fine. Clean, comfortable room. Nice grounds, huge Olympic size pool & hot tub. Pool area well kept. On arrival I noticed room safe was broken and AC vent pointing to floor so no air flow into room, I couldn’t move it. Called front desk and within 5 min guy was up fixing everything. Good guest service.
We are returning next month for another stay. Very close to main gate. We could see Guardians of the Galaxy from our balcony.

I've always liked the Anabella and it is my off site favorite and I was sad when they closed. I just got an email from them saying "After closing the doors of the Anabella, our team has moved to The Anaheim Hotel and we’ve been busy! We’ve renovated our grounds, arrival, guest rooms, lobby, and everything in between. The Anaheim Hotel is now completely renovated and ready to welcome our friends to our new home across the street from Disneyland™. I'd give them a chance.

I’m with you. I’ve had some terrific stays at Anabella and was distraught that they chose to go the mega resort route. I would give Anaheim hotel anchance, too.

I had stayed in it prior to the renovation and new management. It was just what I paid for, which was cheap but clean and close. I liked the older kitschiness of the place. But I stayed there again last October because the rates weren't too bad and the reno looked great in the pictures, plus I love Pizza Press!! I'm not looking for a lot, just working order, clean & decent. The staff was friendly, the lobby and pizza press were nice, but the rooms!! There were 4 of us (adult women) and it fell WAY short in the 3 areas I just mentioned. We were moved 3 times before we got a room that had working air etc. We'd been told when we went to change the room the first time (A/C didn't work and our front door was partially obstructed by an ice machine that was out of order) that we'd have a huge room with a balcony etc but turned out that wasn't even possible so it was untrue from the beginning. Second room was next to a whole bank of AC units and was so LOUD we could barely hear each other. The rooms did not look like they'd just been renovated; I won't be trying that hotel again. There are nicer rooms near the front, but we weren't able to get into those because we were 4 adults. I don't understand the logic of that, but that's what they told us.

ETA: There are many motels that offer the same or better amenities and are as close or closer for the same price. I'd go with BWPPI, Desert Inn and Suites, or Park Vu Inn, even if the cost was a little higher (those places are all closer and offer breakfast, though DS&I's breakfast is pretty meager).

This just reinstated the experience I had at the Anabella. The staff was friendly but they didn't take care of the place. I'm not sure if it's management or ownership but honestly I wouldn't want to find out. And I'm always looking for a good price. I shop around for quality at a good price.

Since the Anaheim hotel just finished renovations I wouldn’t let an October stay influence a decision, personally.

Since I’ve never had a negative experience at Anabella, I’m not sure it’s either. We’ve had great rooms and great service. The common link I’ve seen overwhelmingly with the old Anabella is that the very back building had some problematic rooms. Everywhere we stayed was great.

My room was clean the beds were comfortable but the summer heat in the kids rooms was almost unbearable for them with no A/C which to me is not a good thing especially when you pay extra for a suite. Also the pool should have been closed with the pool floor coming up. My kids had sand like substance in their bathing suits and this shouldn't have happened at all. For these two reasons I was very disappointed with The Anabella. I know everyone will have different experiences and thoughts on different hotels but to me A/C and a good clean pool are important for a July vacation in Anaheim. So, for me if management/owners are ok with their guests being in the summer heat with no A/C and a pool that needs to be redone it says something to me about how the place is ran. And to me is a no go. But obviously that is everyone's personal opinion on what they prefer or deal with. This is just my personal experience and opinion. I'm glad to hear you didn't have the same experience that I had.

We had renovated rooms; they'd JUST been done. They were still working on other lodging areas in the back but everywhere else had just been renovated. It was as good as it's going to get; I doubt 5 months has improved the rooms. I actually liked it a lot better before the renovation.
