Official Wine & Dine 2018

So, I have this fuel here, might as well throw it on! :)

My wife and I are both Legacy for W&D Half and since year 6 we've been getting emails anywhere from 3-5 days before registration reminding us about registration. This year, nothing. I don't think that speaks to any huge conspiracy about the race, but it is telling about RD's rather awful lack of communication.

RunDisney is so on top of things. My wife and I have run every Wine and Dine and they have reserved a registration for us to continue our perfect streak since I think the 5th year.

I got me email at 1:30 pm yesterday. I really wish they would send these out earlier so I know for a fact that I don't need to try to be ready for early registration. I know they would likely fix it if I didn't get in, but I just worry that they will mess something up and we won't get a spot in the race. I don't like relying on RunDisney or any of Disney IT for my registration.

For the 5k would a mindset going in be don’t pay attention to my pace clock just have fun and make sure you’ve crossed or are near to crossing the finish by 7 be reasonable? Doing this distance for dark Side and I want to have fun/preserve my energy for the 10k

Very reasonable- depending on what corra you start in - you could still finish before when the buses are able to leave (I.e corral A that take an hour still have to wait for last corral people)

Happy for you — that does sound great! :)

This may be the FIRST TIME I have ever heard this said about rD and registration, though!!!

It was the usual circus for me to register as DVC/AP! :badpc:

I was on pace to pr in my 10k this morning and get under the 1:10 I need for pot through mile 4. Then my knee started hurting, which was a new thing, so I had to shorten my intervals and once I knew I wouldn't make it I walked up the last huge hill right before the finish. I wish the races around here would stop putting steep hills at the end. Now to find another 10k before that cutoff that isn't too hilly.

For everyone registering on Tuesday, here is an attempt at a summary of which browsers worked and which didn't on Friday for AP/DVC early registration. Unfortunately there was only a little consistency among various ones.

Generally worked:
- Internet Explorer (capability mode?)
- Chrome in incognito mode
- Firefox in incognito mode.
Clearing cookies and history also seemed to help some folks.

Generally did not work:
- Chrome
- Google
- Firefox
- Safari
Ipads and phones were also troublesome to many.

Hope this helps

Just FYI, I had trouble with Firefox and Safari and ended up having luck on my iPad.

I think it was a VERY mixed bag, but I can’t say that’s unusual in my experience for EARLY registration. I’ve had much fewer issues like this once it came to regular registration.

Eventually they DO have to open the park...

I've seen them shorten the course because the park was about to open, but I haven't seen sweeping.
But ... that doesn't mean that there weren't people behind me who got swept, I just didn't see it happen and I knew that I was in no danger of getting swept, even when I stopped for a character.

My Fall vacation plans fell through so now I’m thinking of signing up for W&D. Do races sell out quickly? Thinking of the half marathon or the Challenge. TIA!

YMMV on that one. Wife and I are both perfect - we have received email once about reserving a spot for us. Can't be sure, but that was the only year we were not able to complete early registration when they offered it.

Also didn't receive the qualifying time reminder one year, when you could not do it during registration. luckily, we were able to change corrals at the expo.

Early registration still available for challenge and half. if you have a friend named google, you should be able to register no problem.

I know I just have never heard of someone getting swept for a 5K. They are pretty lax with that distance.

I bike monitored this exact race two years ago ... they do NOT sweep, but a golf cart/gator will pick you up and take you about .25 miles from the finish so you can finish under your own power.

There was an incident with a woman who was dead-set on finishing last to get the "VIP treatment" who refused to get in the golf cart and was yelling some very unfortunate things at race officials. Ultimately, she lost that battle, but it was really off-putting.

They WILL close character stops and PhotoPass will pack up after their allotted time - and it is all VERY timed with little-to-no wiggle room ... for the 5K at AK, the characters are scheduled for one set and one set only - no swapping out or breaks. For instance, in 2016, as soon as we (race officials) passed Mile 1 and Rafiki (right outside the ticket booths at AK), the character meet line was closed for Rafiki even though there were still people out on the course (we were basically going point-to-point at 17:00/mile timing after the last starter in the last corral crossed the start), so just be aware of that.

Thank you for the info. The 17min/mile is helpful to know. That makes running and photo stops very doable for me. Thanks!

Thanks Keels!

I tried running 3 miles today and unfortunately had to stop at 2.6 miles. It felt like someone was ripping my knee apart. I don’t see the half marathon being in my future. I feel like I’m too young to be having knee problems but oh well I have a doctor appointment on Tuesday.
