I just added the dining plan for one night during our stay.

I added the quick service plan for one night and it came to $209.96 for four Disney adults. Plan on using it at Mara and WGPE for our two meals at dinner and me and my husband might split a meal to get one extra credit to spend during a lunch meal.

But what I really like is the thoughts of all four of us getting a refillable mug to use from June 6, (an early arrival) till June 10, ( a late afternoon departure) and only having to pay for one nights stay to get it. We will really be spending time at the resort pools and some of their counter service meals and will take advantage of the refills available!

I know if I weren't allowed to just get it for one night only, I wouldn't have purchased it.

I am going to be adding the Deluxe Dining Plan to the first night of our 3 way split stay in April. We want to hit F&G for lunch, and already had Sanaa dinner booked the first night and Artist Point booked for our second night, so the DxDP makes a lot of sense for us. We mostly drink water, but I can get coffee in the morning, or at least have a cup to use while we lounge by the various pools, even if we are just drinking water.

There's no way the plan would make sense for us for more than that single night, but it will work out well for these specific needs.

I am planning the same....either QS or the QS/TS as we stay one night at Pop before 7 at AK. Figure I would buy the mug anyway, this makes my first few meals worth it.

The "first night of a split stay" scenario is one of the few that often can make financial sense, but even then I'm struggling to see it on the quick-service plan. If my family of four is eating quick service without drinks (using mugs), the bill is usually in the $40-$50 range. Maybe $60, if both kids eat adult meals and we have dessert. So x2 = $120, plus ~$85 for four mugs if everyone got one (but we wouldn't normally buy more than two, at most). I guess we could just about get to break-even on snacks? Barely though. This is another of those situations where we could probably spend that much if we tried, but it would still be more than we would have spent out of pocket.

Not picking on your choice at all, I'm just continually amazed at how hard it is to make sense of the DDP for my family. Hope you enjoy your meals and especially your mugs!!

I think for OP and other PPs who are doing this, they were planning on buying the mug anyway. So that gives the mug a greater value to this one-night scenario. Essentially, you take the price of the plan and subtract the mug price, and then you get 2 QS meals and 2 snacks for about $32. That's why it makes sense.

I'm glad that you were able to purchase the plan for just one night... I attempted to do this for a split stay back in November and they told me that I wasn't allowed to because they "had just recently implemented a 2--night minimum to purchase the dining plan". I guess I should have called back and asked a different cast member, lol.

Really? Haven't heard that. I also didn't know that you could do it for one night at a regular resort, but I guess you can? But implementing a 2-night minimum stay to purchase it would make sense for Disney as the value for the guest would not be as high as it would with 1 night. (pertaining to the mug)

Yeah, I get why it can make sense for some. But even at $32 with a mug in hand, I'm probably underwater on 2QS and snacks, unless I purposely alter my eating habits. I'm one of those who really wants the dining plan to work, because I do otherwise watch what we're spending the whole time, and it causes me stress even as I remind myself that we can afford it. But I'm also too rational to significantly overspend just so I can be free from watching my spending. So I look at every configuration, on every trip, and can rarely make it work. My post was just my thinking process on that configuration for my family. Not really anything to do with the OP.

I don't know if it really does make sense for Disney. The mugs and their contents cost them next to nothing, so if they can entice enough people to spend more than they would otherwise, under the guise of "getting value" out of their meal plan, even the single-night plan has to be a money maker for them.

I wonder if anyone else has heard of the 2-night minimum requirement? I guess it doesn't matter to me as I already have it locked in, but I am just curious. I know these two girls are gonna be re-filling that mug numerous, numerous times, so that will save me money right there alone. I might even try to get my husband to split a CS meal if possible and retain one extra credit towards another meal. Not sure if that will work yet, but I have my thinking cap on.

At one point, seems like a few years ago, they were at least trying to make a 2-night min for regular resort guests, but DVC could do just one night. It was hit or miss when people would call to add for just one night. It would also get confused with FREE dining minimum stay and PAID dining. I'm fairly certain (85% or so) that they've done away with any minimum requirement for a PAID plan.

Oh, ok. Well I guess that helps all of those who want to do just a one nighter like myself.

Can you still use the mug after you check out? I believe the mug has a chip in it that prevents it from being used outside of your resort reservation.

Its supposed to be good for 14 days, whether you stay on property or not.

I didn't know dining plan can be added to only part of the stay. Do you have to make separate reservations, like booking the days you want DDP separate from the days you don't want DDP?

Well, there's a little more to it than that. You are required to purchase the dining plan for the entire length of your stay at any one resort. The way the OP is doing this is that she has a one night reservation at one resort, which she is purchasing the plan for, then moving to a different resort for the remainder of her vacation. Her dining plan credits are good only for check-in and check-out day of her first reservation.

Does this actually work? I thought about doing this but was discouraged when I was told it lasts for as long as I have the Disney dining plan. They made no mention of the mug being good for 14 days. I'm doing a split stay also with 1 day at my first resort. Seems too good to be true that they would allow me to buy the dining plan for one day but continue to use the mug until I check out on my last day.

The mug definitely works at all resorts on property for 14 days. We pretty much only do split stays and have never had an issue with continuity with regards to the mugs.

I just called to add a one-day DDP, staying one night at movies before moving to sports. Anyway, she said she had to cancel and re-book the room with the dining plan but I'd have to wait 7 days or so for the refund to show. I had purchased just enough in Disney gift cards to add the dining plan so I told her I'd have to call back. I paid for the room with my credit card. Was this the case with your situation too or did they just add the plan to the already booked & paid for room?

When you add the dining plan to a room-only reservation, you change to a package. In that case, the CM is correct.

If you already have a package, no. It can just be added.
