Charged extra to add 3rd person to our resort?

It's also (mainly?) because a third adult guest could get their own room. Hotels are losing potential revenue when guests triple up.
Exactly. I has nothing to do with using shampoo. It's because in theory, the 3rd, or 4th adult could get an entirely new room. Paying $25 for them in your room is way less than another room would be. So this is a way to make up for the "lost room" in their eyes.

It's standard practice in the hotel industry. I've never stayed in any hotel that didn't charge for the 3rd, and up, adult.

My friend who travels with her 3 college aged kids will usually get a second room due to the upcharge. It's often just a little more for the second room when considering the upcharge.

We are traveling with my daughter for her 21st bday and boyfriend (20). We've decided to get a room for them rather than paying an additional $400 for 8 nights at POR. It's a lot more $ out of our pocket but considering we will now have privacy and only 2 people using 1 bathroom rather than 4, makes it worth it for us.

Yep. We got it added to our room too for our 18 year old daughter. She is still in high school at the time of the trip.

I just booked and checked if my 17 at the time of travel granddaughter will be charged. Nope! I could nto remember the age, so I am so happy we get one more year of "free" LOL!

:) agree.

I haven't either, in USA, Italy, France, Germany, England, Switzerland, Belgium. Not to say there is no where in any of these countries that does not charge extra. All the hotels I stayed in have. And as everyone has said, it is standard in the hotel business. :teacher:

The sister hotels in California do not charge for an additional adult. The CM was surprised when I asked about the rate. To paraphrase her, "We wouldn't charge you additionally if the room sleeps up to 5 guests."

I’m assuming you’re talking about Disneyland?

No wonder. They already charge a ridiculous amount for the DL resorts IMHO. I am usually all about staying in the Disney bubble, but my happy little rear is staying at he Best Western Park Place for my birthday DL trip because of the ridiculous on-property rates.

I hope you have a wonderful birthday! If I'm not mistaken, the rate was about the same as we typically pay at a deluxe resort at Disney World. However, I would have paid more given that it took 5 minutes from my hotel room to Cars Land.

That may be the difference - I don’t do Deluxe. But honestly the Pier one looks equivalent to *maybe* a moderate at WDW but they are charging deluxe prices for it.!

As a hotelier I can confirm this is correct. The shampoo cost doesn't increase really with the third person. A bottle s a bottle regardless of how many use it. Same with other amenities. What we lose is the extra room sale.
