Toiletry Dispensers Being Installed at Disney’s Pop Century Resort

I don’t recall getting conditioner in our value stays last year, either. There was only a “conditioning shampoo”.

Yeah, for a while there values only got a two-in-one product. I don't know if that is still the case, but I distinctly remember being annoyed enough by it to pick up a bottle of H20+ just-shampoo in the gift shop on our first Pop stay.

Last week we got a tube of shampoo, a tube of conditioner, a bar of body soap and another bar of soap.l

I think it's a good change. Much better for the environment. And my daughter and I were always having to request extras because one of even the new larger sizes wasn't enough for the both of us.

As for worrying that someone puts something in there, that seems silly. You use soap in a public restroom. I have used large wall pumps at my gym and other hotels. I'm still here so I think it will be fine.

Most soaps in a public restroom are in a sealed bag with only a tiny opening for the soap to come out. They aren't refillable and the contents are inaccessible.

Though Disney has not clarified whether these will be refillable, if they are not, that negates the "better for the environment" argument some are making.

It really doesn't, though. One bottle per week (probably overestimating the use rate here) is still better than the 7+ little ones they'd go through in the same timeframe, especially if the fact that housekeeping is responsible for changing them out means they're recycled rather than just tossed.

Space-wise, one of the large bottles is about equal or even larger than 7 smaller bottles.

Yeah, it annoyed me, because I use a lot of conditioner.

But from an environmental perspective, it is the amount of plastic material that is the most important factor because the plastic itself is what doesn't break down. And larger bottles have a much better packaging-to-product ratio.

And in addition to this, and it is total plastic that matters as Colleen pointed out and not volume of the bottle, Disney is control of the waste with this new implementation which they can recycle. Previously guests were in control of the waste, whether they used the product there or took them home, and recycling was not in Disney's control. I would be very surprised if Disney isn't recycling the empty containers.

I don't understand the vocal backlash against these (not so much talking this thread but the Disney community in general). The vast majority of us use public restrooms and use refillable soap dispensers constantly. I don't consider these any worse. Those are used by anyone who walks into a bathroom, these Disney ones are only used by guests in the room before you.

Just think of all the unnecessary waste involved in the individual toiletries most hotel rooms give. You have the packaging itself that goes into a landfill along with the unused portion of the product and these soaps and shampoos getting into ground water isn't good.

This is both a cost win and environmental win. I'm hopeful all hotels everywhere go this route just for the environmental impact alone. I don't see any downside and no, not getting to take toiletries home with you isn't an actual downside.[I check soap container first. If refillable without bag inside I skip the soap and just use hot water. I am not going to add harmful bacteria to my hands or childs hands. A childs immune system is not as strong as an adults.
