If You Can Dream It, You Can Do It! - WISH October Lifestyle/Weight Challenge

One in 5 houses in the country lost electricity and kids are off school for 2 days. I went for walk this morning before the storm was due and it was very calm. Parts of the country really took the hit really bad, reporting the typical hurricane noise and loss of roofs and so on. Very near us, few miles away there is neighborhood without electricity.

Nothing were we are. Sunny day. I don't plan to leave and it is suppose to be over us right now but it's actually calmer than normal storm while there are huge trees and roofs being blown away 3 miles from us. So strange. My friend in Cork lost her solar panels and half of her roof tiles.

I feel guilty yelling at the builders this morning! I will come back to the forum tomorrow to catch up on posts, have a lot on today.

Sunday
1) Did I do my steps (15000 goal) No
2) Were my calories in balance No
3) Did I do my 3 weekly workouts without overdoing it (only M, W and F) Yes, I did my Friday workout
4) What did I do great today, what worked well
I felt better and I decided to do my missed workout
5) What can I do better
I was short about 1000 steps and my eating on Sunday (Impractical Jokers live show) left a lot to be desired. It wasn't worth it to be honest

Monday
) Did I do my steps (15000 goal) Yes
2) Were my calories in balance Yes
3) Did I do my 3 weekly workouts without overdoing it (only T, T and S) N/A
4) What did I do great today, what worked well
I managed to get out for a walk before the red warning was in place and stayed on track with calories and food.
5) What can I do better
I am not very prepared for food this week and my son is off school again, and my husband also had to stay home meaning food that last us few days is gone in a day. I need to organize today, on top of working and minding my son as he can't go to school again

Week 1 and 2 were great with mostly yeses, so I am giving myself 50%. Week 2 had bad start on Sunday so I need to really get my act togheter for the rest of the week. Week 1 my calorie average was about 2250, week 2 about 1900. Baring the ugly Sunday I will be happy with 2250 this week.

I mostly say no to treats when we are out on venues like that - cinema, live music. They didn't have my drink so i had sweeter alcoholic baverage. Few of them. Nachos and ice cream. After drinks I got the late night munchies and end up having some bread and cheese back home before bed time. I don't know why I did it, I wanted to try them like everyone else does. But I guess if I don't want to weight like most people I can't eat like them either.

My DH is struggling after a lot of business travel, knee injury and vacations weight regain and it's impacting his mood and me too. Apart from calorie burn, tennis is his stress relief and without it his mood is very impacted. The doctor yesterday morning told him he have very high blood pressure and he drinks Starbucks like it's water. Considering his health history, I am stressing over him looking so unhealthy right now. Of course, he is upset too. I don't want to turn into nagging wife, I don't want the impact it may have on our relationship and I would like him to go to a dietitian and deal with her or one of the clubs similar to weight watchers but he doesn't want to hear.

No school for two days, work busy, my DH not feeling the best is really stressing me out but I just need to organize myself and get on with it.

Apparently the gust winds hit Dublin after 10:30pm last night but I slept through it. We didn't lose power, we live too near major hospital I knew even if we do it will be short term. It's nothing like you will experience in Florida and less people live in Ireland than in Florida, but still 3 lives were lost and if there wasn't as much hype it would have been worse.

I am with @Flossbolna I would probably keep your son home from school. You really do not want to be facing heading out into those conditions for school pick up. I am sorry you are not getting better advice for preparation. It can be frustrating at times. I am far enough south in Queensland that we don't usually get a direct cyclone hit (similar to hurricanes) but we do get the left overs as they move into tropical storm phases with strong winds and rain. We always prep with water, food that will last a few days, food that can be prepped with/without power, torches/lanterns etc. Hopefully, your schools will do the smart thing and close for the day - but if not I would make a parents call on that and your comfort level. Schools were closed for a couple of days - directed by the Police during our big storm earlier this year - but it didn't happen until 7am that morning and obviously not all parents heard the message and kids were dropped off and they had to go back to get them again. Until your post yesterday I didn't even know that you had a hurricane headed your way - and to be honest didn't realise that they occurred near Ireland - I always associate hurricanes/cyclones with tropical areas.
Stay safe - and definitely hunker down in a part of your house far away from those construction tools as the storm passes through :grouphug:
About 9pm the day before there was a lot more practical advise. We don't usually get anything like this, even the storm at 1961 was not as strong. All public transport was stopped yesterday, people that got in my work were told to leave or remain in place. It should be calm today.

1) Did I do my steps (10,000 goal) Yes
2) Were my calories in balance -- Yes I was still in the negative but not by much
3) Did I track my food -- Yes
4) What did I do great today - I went to the rec even thought I was try to talk myself out of it and packed my lunch
5) What can I do better -- We have brownies, chocolate chip cookies and cupcakes at my house right now from what I made to take to my mom's house for the Halloween party. I don't think anyone ate any. So I need to work on not eating them. I had 2 brownies, 2 cookies and a candy bar yesterday. I tracked it all though. I just need to have more will power.

Is your goal still just a thought in your mind or have you studied it to determine how you can meet it? If you haven’t, what is standing in your way?

I think for a long time it was a thought/image in my mind that I was hoping/waiting for it to easily appear - but at the same time studying different things along the way and now am moving into the action phase.

Bonus QOTD: Let's say there was a University of Disney. If you were a student there, what would you want to major in (Rides, Shows, Characters, etc)?

Oooh that is hard - I'm not technical or mechanically minded but being involved the in the development/creative side of rides - thinking about the rider experience would be fun - I love all the detail in the Disney rides - right from the time you line up to the end.

Sorry to hear that and that you are worrying about him - especially after getting the all clear from those health issues and thinking you could move on. I hope you work it out - It is tuff supporting loved ones until they are ready to face their issues to make the changes. I have been on that side before - but know also being the one facing some blood pressure and other potential health issues myself related to lifestyle (similar to your DH's current concerns) I also didn't act instantly when I could have - but do feel like I have made more of a change lately. It might seem from the outside that I was dismissing it all but really it was coming from a place of feeling overwhelmed and getting my head around it all. Given what you have all been through that would be an added factor to getting his head around a fresh health battle/lifestyle change. Unfortunately - some people make the choice to continue with the risky lifestyle factors - my sister for example is a smoker, knows the risks, has had a heart attack, and still smokes like a chimney.

Glad to hear you got better advice eventually and that you and your family was safe. They did show some of it on the news here last night, reporting the 3 deaths - and as always the crazy people who do the unthinkable - footage of what I think was an older man - getting in the ocean for a SWIM - he was just engulfed by the waves to the point you couldn't even see him - the reporters did say he was fine - but still just mind boggling. We get those people here as well though during weather events.

So I need to work on not eating them. I had 2 brownies, 2 cookies and a candy bar yesterday. I tracked it all though. I just need to have more will power.

Stay strong - that is tough though.

The 3 people that died, died exactly as my dad - storm related falling tree. One of them was trying to clear the road for others, one driving her old and sick mother. So sad. But they made big deal out of the storm comming and if they didnt' it would have been worse.

That swimming man, and there were some surfers are so selfish. They had to send people to save them and risk their own lives.

Bill Clinton ignored all warnings too and was walking around town before the storm. Fine I guess, it was not due for another hour or so but still not good message. He comes in town so often, it's not like his only trip to Ireland

I find myself tired and can’t completely get rid of the sore throat. I decided that I need to change my steps goal to 10000 as minimum (4000 steps less). Current step count goal isn’t working for me right now. I still will probably end up doing more some days but on days I don’t feel like it, I won’t push above that.

1) Did I do my steps yesterday (10 000 goal) – Yes

2) Calorie balance – No, 90 calories over

3) Strength workout (T, T, S) – Yes, increased the weight little

4) What did I do great yesterday – my workout while short felt effective and I went out for few short walks

5) What can I do better – I feel little too tired, probably various stresses, colder weather, few drinks on Sunday. I need to cut down on my walking for awhile and keep at more sustainable 10 000 a day until I feel better

Oh that is sad about your Dad - sorry to hear that. I totally agree about those risk takers/self absorbed people putting others at risk - and no matter the warnings there are always some. The other thing that gets me at times are the reporters - I know its news but some of the footage they show of themselves out there puts themselves and also potentially rescue workers at risk if it all goes wrong.

Happy Woohoo Wednesday!

What’s everyone excited about today?

I am woohooing:

1. I managed to get P!NK tickets today - we missed out on the first pre-sale on Monday - it is so stressful trying to get them. I did a happy dance in the hallway at work that made my colleague laugh. We are seated towards the back there are 2 ladies that come with us and they are short - so they don't like standing tickets. I may be tempted to try for 2 Wild Heart tickets on Friday when it goes to general sale for DD and I - they are the tickets closest to stage in a smaller barriered off section - they will be super hard to get. Seriously, she is super popular down here - it seems like 3/4 of Australia tries to go to her concerts so tickets can be super hard to get - it is a tradition for the 4 of us to go together, so we are just happy to have any tickets at the moment.

2. Just got home from dinner and movie with a friend - it was fun, chatting laughing and the movie was a nice feel good movie with a few laughs. We had Mexican and I had a burrito bowl salad with no sour cream - figured that was my best choice on the menu - plus the rest of the day was fairly low kj so I should definitely had room for the dinner and the Corona with lime.

3. I have been on track with eating this week - have taken lunch to work every day so far.

Would love to see Pink Live and love burrito bowls :).

Yesterday was a rough day. I did not get my 10,000 and did not track my food. I ate out for lunch and dinner. I did only have one brownie. I also got to see my nephew play a soccer game for his college last night. He is a freshman this year and he is a starter. He is an awesome player. They were playing the college in the town that I live so with it only being a few minutes from my hose I had to go. They won by like 6 goals. It was great to see him too after the game.

I am woohoo today that I am down a pound.

Hello All! Woohoo Wednesday- down 37.6 lbs in 5 months. It was only 1 more lb this week but that is 3 and 1/2 for this month. I have been adding more carbs into my diet such as brown rice, sweet potatoes and I think it slows the weight loss process for me a bit. I have always been that way when trying to lose weight. Even too many bananas or plain popcorn seems to do it and I love carbs, all of them!

I have been working on decluttering the house, There is so much stuff here! I feel like it is 2 steps forward, 1 step back. I feel good getting rid of so many items. I have gotten rid of lots of clothes that are too big which is great but trying to find a few new summer type clothes this time of yr can be a challenge. It is still in the 80's every day. We are looking at a "cold front" where it may go into mid 70's for a couple of nights! That makes it feel like fall to me. I have way too much Disney stuff but I am not sure what to do with it all. So many pins...

I am looking forward to relaxing with a good book, does anyone have a recommendation for me? I am more looking for fiction, more light hearted, not heavy literature.

It isn't exactly light, but it isn't super-serious either... I'm currently 400 pages in to American Gods by Neil Gaiman and it is the best fiction I've read in a really long time.

What's a time when you failed to meet your goal? More importantly, how have you used that failure to learn and grow?

Bonus QOTD: Since it's Friday the 13th... What's your favorite Disney Halloween movie?

I tend to take a Thomas Edison view of the world. He is credited with saying about the as-yet-unsuccessful light bulb that he hadn't failed, he'd merely found a thousand ways that don't work. I haven't failed. I'm still here and still trying new things, and as long as that's true I don't think of it as failure. I've just ruled out a lot of wrong turns and dead ends on the way to finding a path that does work!

Oddly, I don't really have a favorite Disney Halloween movie. It isn't a holiday I associate with family movies, I guess, other than The Great Pumpkin. I love horror flicks and the Rocky Horror Picture Show but those are very much NOT Disney!

What worked form is that I need to go to the rec right from work before I go home. Once I go home I get lazy and don't go back out. I am back to doing that.

That's one of my biggies too... only I don't work, so the challenge is to be ready to go after dropping the kids off in the morning. Because if I come home, I'll find 500 things to do to fill the day and never head back out to the gym, and if I don't go while they're in school I probably won't go at all.

Sometimes it’s easy to have a goal in mind, but we don’t always take the time to look into what needs to be done to make it possible. Is your goal still just a thought in your mind or have you studied it to determine how you can meet it? If you haven’t, what is standing in your way?

Bonus QOTD: Let's say there was a University of Disney. If you were a student there, what would you want to major in (Rides, Shows, Characters, etc)?

I tend to go to extremes when it comes to things like this - either I study the goal/issue to death, which sometimes leads me into planning paralysis, or I just jump in and make it up as I go along. I'm mostly taking that second path right now and trying not to let overthinking kill my momentum, though some details are starting to take shape. It started with "get to the gym at least 5 days a week", then "log at least 3.1 miles a day" since that's the distance DD wants me walking/running with her, and is now evolving into at least a couple of specific targets (first 5k on Dec 2, with a couple of DD's wish list races penciled in for the future). I need to put a little time into an upper body/weights routine but I haven't sat down to do that yet.

If there were a University of Disney, I'd want to major in graphic design/visual storytelling. No one sets a memorable scene or creates an identifiable brand experience quite like Disney, and that is a skill I would love to see up close and down to the smallest detail.
