Great Movie Ride closes for Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway

I would think they will control crowds like they did for Pandora by closing it off and creating a line to get into the land. While waiting in line to enter would stink at least when you are in while I'm sure it will be crowded hopefully it won't be unbearable.

Agree - but fearful of those lines as I can envision Star War's lines being at least twice as long

Hopefully the tap house will have a mobile beer unit (MBU) to serve those of us in line

Yeah and they really didn't have to close Pandora that much. I could see SW land getting closed off because it reached capacity being a regular occurrence for at least the first year.

I think I'm just going to avoid going to HS the year it opens. I don't ever really stay there that long but I may go check things out without going on the new rides. I'm okay with waiting...there are so many other things to do in the parks that I like...maybe I'll just have to play Sorcerers of the MK that year....LOL.

I thinking Star Wars will be crowded for the first year but not to a crippling degree outside of peak periods. Things will settle and it will be tolerable by 2020/2021.

Challenge is land likely not open until near end of 2019 so gotta figure it will be crazy crowded for much of 2020 and then 2021 you have all the 50th stuff that will draw people in ... so I am thinking won't be until in 2022 that it calms down a bit

Yeah I don’t think things will slow down at WDW until 2022.

I figured some of the other new things would even out the crowds among the parks but I guess it depends on whether attendance increases or not.

I will be interesting to see how much and quickly Disney is able to recover the lost attendance numbers and begin growing again.
Is attendance down? I wasn't aware of this. It seems like if this was the case they would be offering better and more special deals.

7DMT opened over 3 years ago and is still a huge draw.

TSMM was crazy for 7-8 years until they added on.

yeah, attendance is down (not huge, but some) and they actually have been offering more deals - or at least deals for times of the year that they normally don't (during the summer, etc.). Now, a lot of them weren't super great, but just the fact they are having promotions at all for the summer indicates they are a bit worried.

Yeah that confused me in May when it constantly had a short wait and how I was easily able to get a second fast pass that day. Seemed like the extra track did wonders while it barely helped soarin

One thing I've wondered too is when we see waits high without actually being right there if we know if all tracks (for TSMM) and all theaters (for Soarin') are running.

When we rode Soarin' they were running 2 theaters on September 12th (1st day park opened after the hurricane). Now the waits were really good in general but if they had only been running 1 theater...oh boy that would have easily turned into a very long wait. Our posted wait was 40mins @ about 1:20pm. We waited just over 20mins.

does anyone know when Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway will open? Also do you think Toy Story land will open by end of June/first part of July? Thanks!

Nothing is definite. TSL is speculated to be open in time for Memorial Day weekend. M&MRR I believe is only stated sometime by 2019.

Pandora did zero for WDW this year so if Star Wars doesn't change the downward trend nothing will...and Disney will officially be in deep doo-doo.

I wouldn't say it did nothing. I think AK attendance rose a little while DHS (even Epcot maybe) dropped.

Umm.... Pardon me, but why exactly would attendance being down in the parks be a bad thing? Disney has raised ticket prices recently, and has been increasing revenue from having more and more additional ticketed events such as firework dessert parties and other activities (tours, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, etc.)

I'm currently at Disney World and I have never seen the parks this crowded before. If you look at past statistics, Magic Kingdom in 2016 had an average daily attendance of approximately 56,000 visitors and in 2011 had approximately 47,000. I know that those are not precise numbers and it varies, but there are no longer any quiet times of year.

Unless attendance suddenly drops to post-9/11 levels, I don't think the Mouse has anything to worry about.
