Denim jeans??

I received an email from DCL that had a link on suggested items to pack. One of the items for the Caribbean itinerary is "Denim jeans"...really? Does it get cold on the ship? What's the purpose of denim jeans?
They also have dress pants, which I understand...but from these threads, I thought the most popular option was shorts.

I am a fashion nut. I LOVE clothes. So if I'm unprepared or have to wear something that I didn't plan, I get thrown for a loop. :scared: And I did not understand the reasoning for this item. :confused3

Thanks!

The dress pants would be a requirement for men in Palo or Remy, otherwise you could get away with shorts just about every place else.

Lots of denim in dining rooms on cruise casual nights. We always have denim with us, usually we wear ours to dinner the last night and then we wear them off the ship the next morning.

After being in the hot sun all day, some people feel the MDRs are a tad cool and will wear "warmer" clothes such as jeans or a sweater. It's entirely your choice. We tend to have a pair with us simply because we travel from the northeast in the winter, but I don't believe I've ever worn jeans on the ship.

Enjoy your cruise!

I didn't even mind the MDR's that cold.

I wore sundresses to dinner. DH wore khakis.

Jeans get hot and uncomfortable and if you go outside for seconds don't handle humidity well.

(I'll admit it, I also hate jeans.)

Some people in my group found the MDRs and even the theaters to be cold. Any time they sat indoors for a long time, they would get cold. So I think they are just suggesting jeans as comfortable and versatile. I don't think they have any issue with shorts in the MDRs as that was very abundant. Depending on your excursions, jeans could come in handy sometimes. Hiking or horseback riding or anything in the woods, jeans might be preferable to shorts.

My wife is a coldy baby, air conditioning on the ship that feels warm to me in a room is cool for her and she will put on a sweater.
The only time it may feel cool on the deck, is while on a winter cruise, sailing at night and at full speed.
Unless you're going to dine at either Palo or Remy you won't have to dress up too fancy during the cruise unless you do it just for the fun of it.

It depends when you cruise and the suggested packing list is probably always the same. If it were summer maybe you'll never wear jeans. I'm January there were some chilly days. So that can make a difference.

If you normally enjoys wearing jeans, bring them. You may find the ship cool in the evening. On deck for fireworks, I even had a sweater and windbreaker, as well as my jeans. But during the day, shorts/dresses/skirts all the way. Whatever was comfortable.

Now if you aren't a jeans person, don't go out and buy jeans. Just wear what you'd normally wear if you wanted to keep your legs a little warmer.

When is your cruise? I have only been able to cruise in the summer, and out of 10 cruises, I've taken jeans on only one...Alaska. The rest have been Bahamas or Caribbean, and I refuse to use packing space for a pair of jeans. I'll pack a couple extra hoodies to wear with shorts and lightweight sweaters to go with my dresses in the MDR, but not jeans.

We have worn jeans on a couple of shore excursions. When we rode horseback in Aruba and when we climbed an ancient temple someplace in Mexico (I think). It was hot both times but the protection on my legs was worth it. Maybe that is what Disney was thinking.

First week in October...I would rather pack a light jacket than jeans!

I think you're right...might be an excursion thing if not for chilly nights.

Even long khaki type pants just to protect legs from bugs on excursions or from the chill in restaurant or the theater (where you could actually store meat it's so cold!)

Efam,
I too love clothes, but I'm not a denim fan.
What I tend to wear/bring on cruises or airplanes is yoga pants - usually black – with a couple of cute tops and a hoodie or long flowy cardigan. It keeps me warm enough if I'm flying and it's also good for the movie theaters on the ship or walking around on the decks at night (where it tends to be both windy and cool).
Also, at dinner I usually wear a sundress or maxi with a shawl ( I bought some Disney ones on the ship) or a cute cardigan over it. :)

We did sundresses and a light sweater, I don't think I brought any pants, and I don't plan on bringing any for the next cruise , which is in January.
