2017 DISNEYLAND RESORT HALLOWEEN TIME / MICKEY'S HALLOWEEN PARTY THREAD!

Do a lot of people dress as non-Disney characters? I've never really been to a Halloween-anything before so I'm just curious what to expect and what to plan for myself.

Some people dress as non-Disney characters my DD dressed as a minion one year.

I was a Pokemon last year, Pikachu. Proved to be more popular than I thought. Even a couple of characters pretended to try and catch me by pretending to throw a ball, and tons of CMs did.

And the kids' reactions were adorable. The minute I stepped out of the restroom where I had changed clothing there was this little girl squealing "mommy mommy look Pikachu!" That continued to be the trend for the evening. It got to the point where one of my friends loudly declared "if we don't hear a kid screeching "Pikachu!" every 30 seconds anymore we lost Vala!" :p

I met two little boys dressed as other Pokemon, they were Squirtle and Charmander. They were really impressed when I sat down with them and had a "Pokemon talk" in all seriousness. If you don't know the franchise, Pokemon basically "talk" by repeating their name constantly with a little variation. That was fun. And then in the hotel lobby I met another girl who was actually dressed as Pokeball. She saw me first and came running to "catch" aka hug me. My friends thought the worst when a stranger came running towards us and did throw herself at me. :flower1:

I LOVE Pokémon (I was in Santa Monica when the February Pokémon Go (G2) update arrived and that was wild!) so this anecdote really made my day! I bet you made Squirtle and Charmander's, too. Sounds like you had a really wonderful experience and it's nice to know that there's a lot of diversity in the characters people go as... although of course I'm excited to see the Disney ones! So funny about your friends, it would look a little odd at first sight!

I remember seeing a great Super Mario group too. Lots of Minions. My favorite was someone dressed as Charlotte from Princess and the Frog, in that insane ballgown she is wearing! I would have had to check in two extra bags for that one probably.

I had picked that costume because I am coming from overseas and transport was an issue, and a friend wanted to take me to a non-Disney concert where the attendees normally dress up. And well, everyone considers me a Pokemon fanatic, so Pikachu was the obvious choice. One of my poor friends was Disneybounding as Smee and so did not get why everyone thought she was my trainer until I googled a picture of Ash to show her. :D

It was really easy done - I got a Pikachu baseball hat with the ears and his Face at a convention, yellow leggings and a yellow shirt where I had painted the tail on.

The year before I was Caterpillar from the Mad T Party band who was playing in DCA at that time. That got a couple of reactions too - including Maleficent which almost made me drop dead on the spot. But of course kids didn't recognize that. Pikachu was a whole different thing.

Does anyone know the historical October schedule for World of Color and Fantasmic? I'm pretty sure Fantasmic is the only the weekend. I can't remember if this means Sunday or not. And I can't remember World of Color at all. We are doing a shorter trip than usual so I have to do more planning to fit everything in!
Historically, entertainment was usually offered on Saturday and Sunday evenings (and on Friday if there is no MHP). WoC is usually nightly (baring some refurbishment or other closure). At this point, the post-Labor Day calendar is a little thin, but it's most likely that they're still working out the schedule and things will be added as they firm up their plans.

As others have said, yes, some guests do dress up as non-Disney characters. I would say the vast majority are some type of Disney-related costume, but I have seen plenty of non-Disney characters (mostly other known characters like those mentioned).

Got our tickets for the party on the 3rd. My daughter has her costume picked (Uma from Descendants 2) but it has been a few years since we went so my 14 year old son isn't too sure if he wants to dress up or not. I told him he didn't have to but he might want to go ahead and pick something now so he doesn't have to scramble right before the party when he ultimately decides he wants to dress up.

Hello everyone. We are attending our second Halloween party this year, first time as annual pass holders. Does anyone know what treat you get at the end of the AP trail they have set up?

Assuming that they have one again this year (they don't typically announce the AP trail ahead of time - keep an eye on the Disneyland AP social media accounts), the treat at the end of the trail has varied over the years. In the past, they've offered a special candy treat (e.g., rice crispie pop), but last year it was a promotional drawstring bag and regular candy. We probably won't know what is being offered until reports come in from the first few parties.

Sounds really cool, thank you for the info :)

I called earlyer today about tickets for the 13th and the 6th of October. If you want to get tickets for the 13th get them now they are about to sell out over the phone. They still have enough tickets for the 6th for another week or two. I will call back ever couple of days to check on the tickets for the 6th. I don't get payed until September 1st. I do have money right now for the ticket but, I want to wait so I can have some money for food.

So, we will be going to the party on Oct 3, and I don't want to spend many hours to get a prime spot for the fireworks and parade. However, I still want to enjoy them and have my son be able to see them. What is a good spot for the fireworks that does not require a huge amount of time to camp out???
I have never gone to the MHP but I have had to deal with kids and whether they can see fireworks. My "go to" spot when my kids were younger was near Coke Corner. If the hub was a clock and the castle at 12:00, this is at the 7:30PM spot. There is a curb back there and that will give kids a few extra inches if they stand on the edge of the curb.

This is our first time at the DLR halloween party. As I understand it, there's no DAS or fastpasses working during the party? How are the ride lines during parties? We'll be there other times during the week when we can ride, but I just want to prepare my kids for the right expectations. Any tips about minimizing lines for the party-only offerings?

Ride wait times are pretty great during the party. I don't want to say "walk on" but they should be nearly walk-on. Trick-or-treat lines will be long at the beginning and then get less and less as the evening goes on. Before the party officially starts, hop in a treat trail line so you start off ahead of the crowd. The parade/fireworks are very popular (thus very busy) and will need some time to stake-out a spot. You are correct that there is no fastpass/DAS during the party, those only go during normal operating hours. The Halloween parties are so much fun, you'll have a great time!

Gah! I'm getting so impatient. I was so excited when I saw Halloween treats for a Disney Halloween party in a DIS news story... and then I realized it was for WDW. Where's our info Disney? We love the mouse too!!
