DIS/Dreams Unlimited China Adventure Oct 14th - 25th 2017 SOLD OUT!!!

Getting ready to mail our "crap" I mean visa applications tomorrow. Still am not sure if I should be using ABD as the inviter or the Rosewood...could anyone who has been lucky enough to get their visas shed light on this.

Chris

Are you doing the document prep service? When I filled those papers out, I listed ABD as it says in the ABD letter, but when CIBT sent the completed application for us to sign and send back, they had changed it to the Rosewood. We don't have ours back yet but that's how they were submitted.

Like Laurie, when I filled it out, I listed ABD as the inviter and they sent it back with it changed to the Rosewood. I changed them back to ABD. After we all discussed it on this thread, I decided to change it back to the Rosewood that night. By that time Kate basically said, "uh, no. we're not changing it again." So we mailed it in with ABD listed. :)

I checked the status and it has been sent to the embassy, and it's expected back on Friday. Fingers crossed!

I bet it's ok whether ABD or the Rosewood is listed as the invited. Famous last words...

Used ABD as the inviter--no issues.

I'm looking at making dinner reservations for Country Kitchen one of the nights in Beijing. From the ABD Board and TripAdvisor, it sounds like reservations are recommended. Would anyone be interested in a group dinner?

The visa process is ridiculous. It makes the Brazil visa look so easy. I keep reminding myself how great this trip is going to be. Walgreens has a setting for every visa except China! So far the mugshot the lady there and I cut out seems to be working.

Kevin, I would love a group dinner at country kitchen. You have done a lot more planning then I have.

I used ABD and didn't have a problem. I also didn't use a service - I'm lucky...I live in LA so I was able to take it to the consulate myself (total cost was $140)

Chuck, Amy and I are up for Country Kitchen as well. Thank you Kevin for being willing to share precious Kate time with us. Also thanks everyone for the feedback. Amy is taking everything to FedEx today.....fingers crossed that all the ducks are in a row or stars are in alignment....you pick the analogy.

Just one more thought.... You know how an ABD group becomes a bonding event with shared experiences. In the future we will look back fondly on this time as the trip with the "Visas from Hell", the experience that began before the adventure!!! ::yes::::yes::::yes::

So I have been thinking about how much currency I will need. Then I panicked wondering which if any the guides will want their tips?!

I'll probably get ~$100 worth of RMD and HK$ and use ATMs as needed. The Rosewood has an ATM and the parks will have them. I think 1 Chinese and 1 American guide is pretty standard but who knows. So I'll likely tip in RMD and US$ if that's the case.

Kevin - 2
Chandra - 1
Chris - 3

I'll wait a bit to see who else would like to join, but otherwise will probably book a table for 10 or 12 the 2nd night around 7:00pm if that sounds ok. We can modify it as needed.

Thanks to all for their input on the visa from hell process. We've decided to use the local service rather than CIBT. We have an appointment on Monday to complete the process. Kevin, Sally and I would like to do the group dinner at Country Kitchen. Chandra, I was just coming to post the same question about currency. Looks like I'll have to wear cargo pants just to keep our Yen, HKD and RMB separated.

I know you guys are in Tampa. How "local" is that service? I'm wondering if it might work for Val & I, even with a drive over there.

Just got to work after visiting Los Angeles Consulate. Turned in Visa paperwork. Was completely nervous that something would be rejected but all was accepted. We put ABD as the inviter, no issues. Will get our Visas (fingers crossed) on Tuesday.

The consulate was like a DMV but really efficient. Loud with people all over the place. But we got in line at 8:30, doors opened right at 9:00. We were 13 and 14 in line and were called at about 9:15. Had to run to window. They were quite quick to move onto next number - so no stalling! :) :)

i'm so relieved right now.

Brian and I would love to join in and I bet Michael and Cynthia Lund are up for it too, because we've talked about that restaurant. By the way, send positive thoughts their way. Think we're all having visa problems? They are having major visa problems!!!

We would love to go - Jim & Linda

Yes, please count us in for dinner at Country Kitchen...assuming I can get into China.

I was wondering if you were signed, sealed, delivered..... It does not sound as if it has been a smooth journey by your remark. Our paperwork is at CIBT.....here's hoping that I filled everything in correctly and they like the way that I cropped the pictures.
