Help with Disney transportation around resorts

This will be our first time at Disney w/o car. We always drive from VA but this time found good deals on southwest. We have multiple resort ADRs and are concerned about getting from one resort to another. For example we are staying ALL Star Sport and have dinner reservation at Sanaa at AKL. Is it difficult to travel to diffrent resorts w/o car? We were thinking about rental cars at the airport but they are $$$$, and it defeats the purpose of my good deal I found on SW. Any tips would help. Thanks

We always have a car and never use it, we park it when we get there and don't get back in it until time to leave. You just have to go to the nearest park and hop a resort bus from there or take Uber. Last year we had dinner at Jiko, were staying at Dolphin. Took the bus to AK then a bus to AKL. On the way back, we took the AKL bus to HS and walked back. The problem with doing this is you have to make sure the buses at the parks are still running. If you are eating at any of the monorail resorts, take the bus to MK and hop on the monorail or the boats to the resort (if at CR you can walk from MK). We did this too, we had the dining in the sky thing so spent the afternoon in MK, walked over to CR and after the FWs, walked back to MK and hopped on the bus. The buses run for at least 1 hour after the park closes.

We always use Disney transportation now that I need an ECV. You can get resort to resort, but you need to leave enough time. All trips will require a transfer.
In the pre ECV days we would budget for a few taxi's for resort to resort ADR's. Even that was way cheaper than a rental car.
Either way will work well.

You should allow 90 minutes to travel between resorts. That's mainly because you could have a 20-minute wait for each of the 2 buses or boats, in addition to the time on the road.

You will always need to transfer at an open theme park or DS. If you're traveling to any of the Epcot area resorts, you cannot transfer at Epcot. If you're out late after all parks have closed, you'll need to transfer at DS.

A popular option for travelling between resorts is Uber or Lyft. Most trips will be $5-$10 for up to 4 riders, more for 5-6 riders. If you have any children younger than 6, car seats or boosters will be required on Uber or Lyft. You can request one child seat on Uber for an an additional $8; availability may be limited at times. For children 4-5, you can bring your own portable or inflatable booster.

Thank you for the tips. I did not take into consideration the time it would take on the bus trying to get to reservations at other resorts outside the park, and most are late in the evening. We will just eat up the extra cost to rent a car. My husband said I still did pretty good even though we may have to rent a car. He said the deals on SW was worth booking even though I didn't factor in other cost and he fly often. Overall we spent a little less than $800 including rental car, nonstop flights from DC to Orlando and round trip for 3 people and we even have good times for arrival and departure. Thanks again for the tips

I've gotten in the habit of not booking dining at places we can't easily get to. Makes our trips much easier. But if we were going from resort to resort, we'd take a taxi. Multi-stop Disney transport just takes too long, imo.

Edit: Just saw that you decided to rent a car. Sounds like a great idea and that will work well.

I know now, but we are on upgraged free dining and I just booked dinner at diffrent resorts, however I booked my dining prior to flights because were driving our own car. But when I randomly starting pricing flights I saw the deal and booked without thinking twice. Once I booked I was like Okay what to do about not having a car while there. I did not think about time getting from one resort to another. But on the bright side of things I don't have to hear my 9 year old complain about the 14 hour over night drive. lol

Über, Lyft, or even cabs, might be cheaper than renting a car. How many non-park ADRs do you have?
outside of the parks we have HOOP DEE DOO, and Sanaa. We also want to do mini golf that is included in package. Our other ADR are inside the parks so I,m not too worried about that even though in our plans we have to leave some parks in the evening to get to ADR in another park. Even if we had a car I would not drive to parks because of the parking fee. My concern was getting to resorts and leaving late in the evening. Our reservation for HOOP DEE DOO is at 8:30 and it's a two hour show. So I don't know how people get back to their home resorts that time of night and how long would it take not having a car waiting for me? We just decided to rent the car. It will cost $260 for one week (ouch!!!).

We never done uber of lyft, do you know the price range from a resort like ALL SPORT to AKL or Fort Wilderness?

You can get estimated fares here. If it doesn't find your starting point or destination, try putting "Disney's" in front of it.

Be forewarned that rental cars, Uber, or Lyft all cannot go directly to the Hoop De Doo venue. If you are driving, you will park at the Outpost check-in area; Uber or Lyft will drop you at the same location. From there, you will have to take an internal shuttle bus to the Settlement. Buses run about every 10 minutes, and the ride is 10-15 minutes.

If you opt to use Disney Transport, you will take a bus to MK, and then a boat to FtW. HDDR is a short walk from the boat dock.

In the past, Disney has provided buses to pick up Guests leaving the late show of HDDR. The buses either dropped Guests at their resorts, or took everyone to the MK to catch a bus to their resorts.

I think they provide buses directly to the resorts from any of the late night shows. I know we had the last luau one year and they provided buses to get us back to our resort, which was YC. It was a little disorganized but it all worked out.

We have called for cabs right at the hotel when needed to. But Uber or Lyft would be great. Definitely cheaper than renting a car. At least use it to get there so you are not late and don't have to travel that long.

Wow. Thanks for this info. I did not know you had to take bus to show. I really don't want to transfer on multiple buses, it seems kinda stressful. I will have husband look into Uber vs rental car. Thanks for all the tips because Disney transportation is not as simple as I thought was. I don't want to spend too much time commuting between resorts for dinner. We have rental on reserve but if he thinks uber will be cheaper we can cancel car. Once again thanks, this info was very helpful.
