Value or Moderate for adult over 50?

I’m trying to decide if I want to splurge and stay at a moderate for my birthday this November, or save the money and stay at Pop Century. I stayed at All Stars ten years ago and remember I really needed that midday rest at the resort. I know both Pop and POFQ have their own bus, so it may not be as crowded as the All Stars on my last stay. Do any other over 50 people have a preference of value over moderate, or vice versa?

Everyone's different :goodvibes I'm in my early 30s and have stayed at both value and moderates...and I LOVE my moderates. *I* find the values to be..."overstimulating"! I like the quiet of the moderates (likely due to being more spread out) for that mid-day time-out. I enjoy the atmosphere more and feel more immersed in the theming. But, that's me.

That said, if I'm planning a quick unexpected trip due to a severe outbreak of Acute Disney-Itis, and won't be spending much time in the room, Value it is!

I've done both and even deluxe and I'm value all the way. I like POP over All-Stars.

You can request having a room where it's quieter like away from the pools, for example.

Saving the money difference allows me to splurge more like with better meals or tours or whatever. Sometimes the savings gets me back sooner for another trip to Disney. I've been to Disney World over 40 times now.

I spend a great part of my day in the parks and I don't feel like paying more for a room when I'm barely using it.

Also, I feel the rooms are not that much different between mods and values. Having a bigger room is only important if there is more people and it's not that much bigger, anyway.

The one difference in favor of a mod is that it has a counter service restaurant and a food court; whereas, the values only have a food court. Also, you may have less kids at a moderate.

I like the bus service better at the values.

I guess you need to asks yourself if you plan on spending more time at the resort or at the parks. If you are going to spend the majority of your time at the parks I say save your money and stay at Pop Century. Personnally I prefer the deluxe resorts but I am a DVC owner.

I have stayed at POP, POR, and POFQ when I don't stay at a deluxe. All are fine, but POR can have the longest walks to the room.

I think I'm coming down with this right now! Think I should see a doctor? or a WDW travel agent?

To stay on topic, I never spend much time int eh room, so value works for me, but they are not as good as good ol' Port Orleans!

I've stayed at values (AS Music) and moderates (POR) and would definitely choose moderates. I'm a real cheapskate, but when I decided to try AS Music, I was so sorry. So many teenagers with "unDisney-like" mouths, rooms that were downright tiny and cheap-looking. I missed POR solo much!

After reading some of the comments and thinking it over, I decided to go with POP. Although my plane ticket is paid for (when Southwest had a Florida sale a few weeks ago), I still have to budget in boarding kitty cat and getting to the Kansas City airport and back (I don't trust my 20 year old car to make that trip anymore). I also heard that an acquaintance going to Enchanticon will be staying at the AofA, so another reason to go value.
Thanks for all the comments!:wave2:

This! :thumbsup2

I have stayed at Pop, the All Stars and Coronado Springs. I loved them all. I do prefer the values for the savings as stated above, especially for short trips (4 days).

You also mentioned the bus service - realize that the Mods may not share a bus, but they make 3 - 4 stops in the resort. Also, for mid-day breaks, the AS buses may share, but they will not be crowded. Only at night after the parks close to they get packed, and then they usually all have their own buses (no sharing). My experience with the Pop buses, they were always crowded no matter the time of day and many times you had to wait for the next bus.

Never stayed Value but have stayed MOD-CS, POR, POFQ and Deluxe-AKL
and of all of them loved POR the best, everything about it. It was the most relaxing place, I love that you can take the Boat to DTD, love the lush landscaping and theme. I love the Mansion section the best. Rivermill CS has a variaty of food choices and there all good. There are quite pools besides the main themed pool. Never had much trouble with the bus system, but we usually go in Sept. when it's a bit slower time, most kids back in school.

It really depends on what you are looking for.

We have mostly stayed at POP, but we have also stayed at POR which is a moderate, and ASM. I'll never stay at an all-star again because of the shared busses. DS is now 18. POP is his favorite.

We are on the go all day long. We're out of the room early am and don't return until late evening. We don't take mid day breaks back at the hotel.

I'd rather pay less for the hotel and get the deluxe dining plan because we don't eat quick service except for snacks. We love all of the fantastic table service and character meals Disney has. The cuisine is fantastic, and we enjoy having meals that are different.

You can find quieter rooms at Values.
I like building 1 or 10 at POP, or the buildings closer to the lake.

Check the map of the hotel, if you are staying in reg or preferred, check the buildings and when you check in you can ask to be in a certain building or area. Your request is not guaranteed, but in March when I checked in, I asked for 1st floor in building 10 and they spread some pixie dust and made it happen.

What I did find when we stayed at POR, is that the mods are a bit more spread out, a little nicer and more landscaped grounds to explore. POR was very nice. POR also has a boat to Downtown Disney.

Honestly the rooms at POR are set up the same as at POP, just nicer decor, furnishings and in smaller buildings.
If you like the serenity of a more spread out resort then Mod is the way to go, if you can afford a more expensive resort.

If I was more well off, sure I'd choose a moderate everytime, but we like to go once or twice a year so we go for the values.

When my head hits a Disney resort pillow it could not care less which level ;)
I have stayed in about 1/4 of the resorts over the years I would recommend POP if you want a value and ask for the 50's bldg very nice I'll be staying at AoA and celebrating my 59 th BD next month, never been there and can't wait to check it all out with camera in hand ! :thumbsup2

Pop on a budget

now if you really want quiet - would go with OKW - ask for a room not on the bus' path.

or near pool and bus stop. assuming you can rent a DVC reservation from a member. If you can't - stay with POP

Cats are generally fine at home alone - just get a feeder and water thing - plus an extra large or self cleaning litter box.

now generally drive to WDW - but one of the last time that I flew got a shuttle and it was cheap - cheaper than me leaving my car at the airport for 7 days.

We stayed at Pop and really were unimpressed by it. Big resort, iffy housekeeping, nasty/stale food at foodcourt, slow service, etc. Won't go back anytime soon. Have stayed at Port Orleans Riverside & Caribbean Beach, but really did not care for either. WAYYY too spread out for my taste.

I would recommend Port Orleans French Quarter. This is my FAVORITE moderate resort both with family & when I go solo. It is small & compact, so it's easy to get everywhere here. There is only one bus stop and has a boat to Downtown Disney. The grounds are beautiful and quaint with the fountains, black iron railings, and soft dixie music playing in the background. I always try to stay in building 5 as it is centrally located. We have stayed here many times (another stay coming up in November) and always have had great service here. The food is good, especially the freshly made, while you wait, beignets. OMG! These are sinfully good and I end up getting them once a day either as a meal or snack. YUM!!! There is a more adult feel to the rooms & grounds, although the pool is cute with Triton riding a serpent and musical instrument playing aligators around it. There is also a "doorman" who is very friendly.

I'm over 50 and I stay at all levels. If I need to be thrifty I go POP, preferred room. If I have a little extra I go Riverside and request preferred. Better amenities. And if I can treat myself, an Epcot resort! Good amenities and everything is pretty much contained under one roof).

French Quarter is great. Small (you don't have to walk for long). Beautiful and romantic landscape. Very quiet. I'd choose this one over pop.
