Disney's new theme - your thought's on the following scenario?

:rotfl: I cannot believe any of you REALLY think that a company as big as Disney that has been in business all these years and has some of the smartest folks in the world working for them would not have considered EVERY circumstance possible. Really? You don't think so?

From the clip showing what it is going to look like, I think it may be great. People will really feel like "a part" of Disney. And the clip did show characters too. Tinkerbell and, and some fish; so maybe Ariel or Nemo? Give it a chance folks.

Of course, next year about this time there will be 50 threads either asking "how do we get our picture on the castle" or telling how Disney "ruined" their trip because they were counting on getting that picture up there. :rotfl:

I totally agree, that they would have thought of every circumstance.

My simple question, was how do they handle that scenario. ;)

(not submitting your own photo, but displaying a photo taken that day in the park).

True dat.

I see what you're getting at . . . Perhaps the plan isn't to arbitrarily use certain pics the PhotoPass photogs collected throughout the day, but rather you have to take your card to the PhotoPass kiosk and upload it to a certain site for submission to potentially be displayed on the castle that evening. Or maybe the PhotoPass photographer will have some type of device where you check a box stating that you give permission for the photo to be used . . . ??? Or perhaps there will be certain areas where these photographers will be located with signage to the effect of "your picture may be used".

Bingo! Now that's exactly what I'm talking about.

Now does anyone know... ? :)

My memory fails me, don't the photographers have something that they scan your card into when they take your pictures? That thing may start requiring a signature to give permission for your photos to be used (kind of like the thing you sign for UPS). There may already be something on the back of the card or in some of the paperwork that already that the pictures belong to disney and may be used for advertising--I've never looked at it before to see.

I think your idea of a kiosk where they can take thier photo pass card to upload a picture to be put on the castle is a good one. That way the family can pick which picture they want up there and its all understood that permission is being given.

I watched the promotional video PP linked. Sorry, I don't like the idea at all. Seeing other people up on the castle reminds me of disney marketing videos. I want to see disney characters, not the crowds/people I am seeing all over the parks. Whose idea was this? I guess, at least in my opinion, the main people who would like it are the ones who WANT to see themselves up on the castle. No so magical for everyone else. And no, it isn't jealousy that someone else has their picture up there, I wouldn't want to see myself up there either, I'm a more private person. (I don't use photopass anyway.) Just don't care for the concept.

When is this going to start and END?

I, agree with Rhonna, I only get to go to Disney every few years. I love the look of the castle lit up at night. I do not want to see a Disney promotional video displayed on the castle! I just want to see the castle - PERIOD!

Disney could share the photos on their Disney channels along with Stacy, and show those on the monitors as people wait in lines for the rides. Just don't display them on the castle!

So it appears we'll see fewer philanderers, shirkers (and spies) spending their time in the public areas at the MK... not necessarily a bad thing, from my perspective.

However, I'm still grossly underwhelmed by this "promotion"... it's like announcing that they're going to re-stripe the parking lot with luminous paint. It would be pretty, and interesting, but it sure wouldn't make my day any more magical than it would have been before they did it...especially if I left before dark.

Here is a more common scenario, in my opinion. Say theoretically you have no objections to your picture being displayed on the Castle. So you take some PhotoPass pictures. But suppose your hair is frizzy from the humidity and you have sweated off all your make up and your head is at that funny angle that makes you look like you have a double chin, even though you don't really and you don't realize your bra strap is showing. And then that photo is displayed up on the Castle for the whole World to see.

Now perhaps you may be thinking that surely Disney will screen the photos displayed and make sure everyone looks good. Yet isn't that discrimination against the attractively challenged? How can Disney judge whether it is just a bad photo that should not be displayed at risk of personal embarrassment, or if it is a pretty good photo of someone who is not traditionally good-looking?

Adding on to the last post... i will repeat a phrase that i posted in another thread....

Does this castle make me look fat?:lmao:

You are married. Your spouse is at home. You told them you are on a business trip, when in fact you were at WDW with your friend you found at ashleymadison.com. Your pic is posted on the castle, when a friend you hadn't seen in years happens to be at WDW the same day on a happy (non adultery) family vacation. You return home, they call the house, your spouse answers and says "I didn't know Bob was in Disney World" to which she replies... "Me either" Uh oh...
If someone is this stupid, they deserve to get caught. If you're going to fool around, you should probably pick a place that doesn't have tens of thousands of other people milling about, any one of which might know you. After all---that friend you hadn't seen in years might have seen you in person, too.

Does this mean we will be getting a new mug??:yay:

Frank should fill Bob in that Mary can't keep her mouth shut. Why, I'm surprised Mary didn't have have a photo "accidentally" mailed to Bob's wife at home just to stir up trouble.

I think Frank and Bob's wife should get together and plan a Disney trip but they should lie to the kids and tell them its a business trip for work. Bob should have to stay home and take care of the kids and Mary just plain needs therapy. She probably cuts in line too. "Oh, I'm just catching up to my "special friend" from work. I just had to go to the bathroom."

Unless, of course Mary gets mixed up with a Brazilian tour group and runs off with a hotter, younger, sexier guy, Paulo, leaving Bob stranded in the TSM line for four hours! And to make it worse, SHE had Bob's fast pass!

Mrs. Bob and Frank might see a photo of Mary and hot Paulo on the castle and snap their own picture of that image and it would make the rounds via office Email. As it turns out, that little tramp, Mary, has been banging every guy in the office in exchange for free trips to Disney, so it serves her right.

Thanks a lot! Now I have to clean up the milk that just shot out of my nose off my monitor. :lmao: :rotfl:

P.S. I think I used to work with Mary.

My 2 scenario's with a "day of" example.

1) You are married.

2) You live in the surrounding Orlando area, call in sick. Head to MK. Pic on castle. Mary (the office gossip) happens to have a day off and is there with the guy from scenario 1 :rotfl2: - and approaches the boss the next day at work, and says "I know Frank called in sick, but I really think he was just - Sick of working".

Well, aren't you running the same risk that your long lost friend will see you in person, rather than your picture, and the office gossip will see you standing on line for something rather than your picture? :confused3
Anyway don't you have to actively submit your picture for it to be on the castle? Therefore, you have a higher risk of being actually seen than having your picture seen. :)

I was gonna say the same thing. What if they just see you in person? There is always a risk of that no matter where you are.

They should do an episode of Desperate Housewives there, someone will see their neighbor with someone other than their spouse projected on the castle and will use it to blackmail them. I hope ABC sends me a check soon for my idea!
:rotfl2:

probably off topic, but I HATE this idea of the "memories"

I don't want the Castle "ruined" with photos of strangers.
isn't "magical" at all. bad idea.

Although posters on the DIS might not wish to respect people's privacy, my guess is that Disney will.

There are just so many people who would not only enjoy but who actually crave being the center of attention. They WANT to be up on that castle. If they could have their picture up there all day or for an entire year, they'd be thrilled.

It isn't like they has to take candids of people who don't want to be put up on the castle. There are a gazillion people clamoring for it. You need only read these boards to see them talk about it.

It wouldn't kill me if they took my picture, but if I had a choice, I'd refuse.

I think Disney knows there are other people like me and will not force us into their advertising campaign against our will. First of all, it is rude. Second, why bother when so many people WANT to be in it?

eta: I think the whole thing looks and sounds cheesy and boring. I have no desire to see anyone on the castle. Don't want to see people I know up there and sure as hell don't want to see randoms up there.
