Rumored Changes to G+

I’ll just keep banging this drum forever.

The solution has been staring Disney in the face for years and they refuse to just do it, presumably because they don’t want to take the PR hit. Just make all LL’s on demand, immediate use, with dynamic pricing.

You walk up to an attraction and the price to get in the LL is right there. Pay it or don’t.

No pre-booking, no artificial timelines, games, or loopholes. Fully transparent.

100 % Agreed, thought (hoped) that was going to be ILL when announced. Not necessarily "walk up to the attraction'- although you could. At least check your phone for current estimates.

That is what they have now. Check your phone for current stand by estimate or see when the next LL is available to book. The less popular attractions will have immediate availability. The more desirable ones will have a LL sometime in the future. It would be impossible to have immediate access to all rides unless they were to drastically reduce the amount of people they let in the park.

This would be ideal for me, especially with unlimited rerides.

What would be great would be if there were a QR code right at the ride entrance where you could select to purchase LL or G+ for that ride (or just get in the standby line). Also, they could hang a clock telling you when the next return time is. That would be the best system.

But wouldn’t almost everybody choose to do the lightning lane in that situation, rendering it useless?

Not if you priced it high enough. Start at $50 and go up from there
There would be riots at that price. I'm thinking $20-25 for the most popular rides like Guardians, Rise. $15-20 for Peter Pan, Frozen. $5 for People Mover, Figment.

There may be riots but it would work to change the mindset of guests. For any system they choose to work well, they need less people buying it each day. By charging high prices, it gets less people to buy it and get used to using standby again.

I'm always raising an eyebrow at all the kvetching about 7:00am as if it is some just ungodly hour. Sure, it's a bit earlier than I prefer to get up on days I want to sleep in, but it's nothing crazy. I suspect there's often a degree of feigned indignation on the part of those who simply miss FP+ and want to find fault with G+.
Nope, that’s not it at all…I have four boys and a husband who usually works overnight…I hate mornings in general…and adding one more thing to do at 7am while trying to get out the door on vacation makes me irrational

…I will probably be awake at 7, but I’m also trying to motivate other people to get ready, find missing items, get coffee, pack bags, etc. it’s just a terrible time to have one more thing on my plate.

Orrrr after reading pages and threads of discussion, Disney could realize there is value in guest satisfaction and the free options, while broken, provided guests with a much higher level of satisfaction.

Not everything needs to cost money or be tied into layers upon layers of technology.

The results of genie plus would show that its an overall failure in the eyes of the guests.

Delay in announcing Genie+ updates are probably tied to Disney figuring out the most profitable way in doing so without alienating a large part of their fan base.

Business wise about profitability, Disney might possibly structure something like this....

Genie+ Update
  1. Deluxe Resorts - People staying at a deluxe resorts would be able to reserve up to an 3 extra Lightning Lane rides prior to their visit.
  2. Moderate Resorts - People staying at a moderate resorts would be able to reserve up to an 2 extra Lightning Lane rides prior to their visit.
  3. Value Resorts - People staying at a value resorts would be able to reserve up to an 1 extra Lightning Lane rides prior to their visit.
  4. All Guests - Regardless of where you are staying, all guests would still be able to reserve their first Lightning Lane ride at 7:00am the same day of their Park Visit (similar to what is currently available).
To me, the profitable margins for Disney aren't in selling more Genie+ reservations or increasing their daily prices. The area that would increase their margins by a wide range would be to entice people who stay off-site to stay at a Disney owned Value Resort to consider staying at a Value Resorts to get an extra LL the days they get Genie+. Same for making guests who normally stay at Value Resorts to stay at Moderate Resorts, along with guests who normally stay at Moderate Resorts to consider staying at a Deluxe Resorts and for keeping the guests who stay at Deluxe Resorts to continue doing so with maximizing their ability to get extra LL reservations ahead of time.

The extra money for Disney isn't in increasing the prices of their Genie+ service, it's in the price of their Disney Resorts and hoping people would pay A LOT more money in resort fees for the ability to reserve more LL rides.

There is not enough capacity to do that. If they did that there would be next to nothing left except for rides people don't want or meet and greets. Majority of guests stay off property so leaving them with little LL to pick from is not the answer.

Didn't say that was the answer or even a good option. I was mostly talking about it from business standpoint about profitability for Disney, that might be an option they'd most likely consider.

Do we know why a delay exists, and is there a possibility they don’t do it? Have a trip in July 24 coming up…

It's just so funny to me how the same ppl that complain about Disney nickel-and-dimming them are advocating for G+ to cost double/triple/quadruple and/or G+ to get advantages if you pay for a deluxe resort.
