Marathon Weekend 2024

Anybody else come back from Marathon 2024 weekend with Covid? Both my wife and myself did the Dopey Challenge and lucky us we got a nice departing gift :(
I haven’t been to MW2024 or near a Disney Park but it seems like everyone we talk to (work, family, school) had either the Acute Pulmonary infection, Covid, Strep, the Flu or something else over the break.

Yeah, I have a cold or something. Started to feel some drainage on Tuesday - the day I flew back. So far I have tested negative for Covid.

Some sickness in our household as well. It started yesterday for me. Negative COVID tests for both me and my wife so far. Fingers crossed it is just a cold. Glad it waited to develop until (well) after the Marathon.

At risk of inviting controversy, but in great hopes of helping someone in the process, I’m going to share that I’ve continued to wear a KN95 mask at WDW (and at home, but we’re talking about WDW here) in all indoor public spaces, in any crowded outdoor spaces (read: corrals, ride queues, etc.), and do not eat at indoor restaurants… and I haven’t been sick in 3+ years. No COVID, flu, RSV, common cold, nothing. I visit WDW regularly as a semi-local, and have done a whole bunch of races since they came back - still no illnesses. I’m not sharing this to put anyone down, and I feel for all who are ill and hope very much you recover quickly and well! I just want to offer an alternative to “illness is inevitable after a race weekend.” :flower3:

That's great @PrincessV ! While I haven't been nearly as cautious as you, I constantly wash my hands at any and every opportunity and carry sanitizer spray.

I've yet to have Covid, even with my mom testing positive while staying with us over Christmas! I do think I've been extremely lucky, but if you do nothing else, washing your hands is super important and so easy.

100% agree with hand washing, too. I’m pretty OCD about never, ever eating or touching my face without first washing my hands.

And just to add a bit to why I’m so cautious: I had a really bad case of influenza some 30 years ago that left me with pneumonia and lung scarring. That left me more susceptible to respiratory illness, and another round of flu about 20 years ago also ended in pneumonia and more damage. Then I had OG COVID in early 2020 - I was out of work for a week and wound up with Long Covid for the better part of 2 years. I still have a chronic cough and some cardiovascular anomalies and weird fatigue that flare up under stress. Nowhere near as bad as some have had it, but it wrecked my body in ways that continue to be problematic. Had I know long ago that just wearing a mask when respiratory illness infections are high could limit or eliminate all of that damage, I’d have been all over it!

At risk of inviting controversy,
I don't think it should be controversial. We all make decisions to try to balance safety with convenience/hassle/annoyance/fill in your own word. My family decided to wear KN95 masks in crowded indoor lines; that's sort of a middle ground. Other folks will find the balance that they feel is appropriate.

Although I can be too judgmental in many areas, covid safety is one area where I try to give great latitude on both sides.

Add me to the list of people with delayed flights. We’re already 2hrs delayed. Thankfully our flights not until tonight, so we’re currently in Epcot. I’m not looking forward to arriving at 2am with two kids though. And then they’re calling for a bunch on snow for our drive home.

I 100% support people who choose to wear masks (especially N95), and I think it’s crazy that it should even be controversial. Washing hands, proper hygiene, and avoiding becoming a disease vector are just basic human courtesy. That said, I was at the parks in December and bought my kids popcorn. One of them spilled it on the ground and began eating the popcorn off the ground at Storybook Circus. No amount of sanitizer can kill the plague I have potentially unleashed upon us all, and for that I apologize.

That’s like my kid licking stanchions while in line for Living with the Land. Half the people around me laughed, half looked horrified. It’s a wonder he doesn’t get sick more often. 🤦🏻‍♀️

My Autistic son has always had a VERY strong aversion to anything touched by other people. There never was and never will be sharing of food or drink, he hates hugs, and will avoid touching rails, door handles, etc. and immediately sanitizes or washes if he can’t avoid it. It wasn’t until we started going to theme parks with friends with kids his age that I fully appreciated the gift he - and I, by association - had been given! :rotfl:

Yup! Whole family has some type of illness between strep, bronchitis, and covid. But I am the only one who has tested positive for covid. Luckily it hasn't been bad at all. Just some nose congestion and a slight cough.

At least it was your own popcorn. If I looked away for 2 seconds, my 3yr old would pick up random pieces of popcorn from the floor and eat it. And of course he’s faster than me when it comes to that.
