Marathon Weekend 2024

Where can I get pasta today that won’t cost me $30 (cough cough Terralina)? Not much sounds good to eat, but pasta does. We are staying at Saratoga, so DS is really accessible.
City Works has a few Mac & cheese options. The Smokehouse at the House of Blues also has a mac & cheese you can add brisket or pork to.

One incongruity from this morning that I haven't seen mentioned. I apologize if I just missed it. Did anyone else find it really strange that RunDisney was handing out both wetted cooling towels and Mylar blankets at the finish today? I had a hard time wrapping my head around that one!
I finished just before 7:30 and neither were available. Mylar would have been nice as many people got cold standing in the rain waiting for busses.

I totally missed them! 😢
They were already gone when DH and I went past. They probably had already pulled them when you got there.

I finished at 7:02 and only saw other people with them; I didn’t see them in the finishers chute. I wondered if they were only handing them out in the medical tent since I only saw cooling towels on people who also had bags of ice strapped to their body.

I was in a good frame of mind and had a good time on the course but, between the congestion and abundance of highway/ramps, this was the worst course experience I’ve had in over 50 rD races.
Agreed. I almost had an anxiety attack because I was so overstimulated from the crowding.

Animal Kingdom Jambo quick service has a runner dinner that is penne pasta with marinara and meatballs, a side of “ancient grains” (quinoa, seeds, and candied fruit— and I think cheese but I didn’t get that), and a banana that I -think- was $12.

They definitely had them out for everybody when I finished. I wish I would have known they didn’t actually have enough for everyone, I wouldn’t have taken one. I was able to get on a bus and back to the resort right away.

It was the perfect temp to be too hot/humid to people from the North and too cold/humid for people from the South.

Much like this race, the temperature was a compromise that no one liked.

I'm putting this out here very carefully. Please remove if it's inappropriate

I bought a L of the purple Dopey jackets at the Expo but I think I'll return it. It's too big and I don't like it that much. If someone is staying at Coronado and wants it, I could pass it on for cash or PayPal.

I finished shortly before 7 and there were only 2 or 3 rolls of them and it was chaos trying to get to them.

When I finished (5:35-ish), the Mylar was neatly draped over the volunteers in the chute. I stayed by the finish line to cheer on people I know (and don’t know) and by 7 they had given up on handing it out and just brought the rolls right up to the metal fencing and finishers were pushing forward and grabbing sheets. It looked like a feeding frenzy out of shark week.

Glad to hear I didn't just skip M&M
When I rounded the final corner before the finish, they had already pulled those last photopass photographers and it was just progress from a sprinkle to real rain.

Loved the set up with the A corral being already at the start. Genius move. Hopefully they keep that. I do agree that it was hard to hear anything from the corral. One thing I am not a fan of in A, since there are some more serious runners in there, they think they need to be towards the front no matter what time they enter the corral. Today was the most pushing to the front I have seen at any rD event I have ran. Even ducking underneath the group cut off ropes to get further to the front.

The run itself I thought was fine. There was pretty cool scene when we ran up the first on ramp with the street light and the clouds moving bye in the dark sky. I wish I would have taken a pic.

Personally still feeling the effects of earlier this week and had to gear down. Also, haven’t been able to sleep much. So tomorrow is going to be a grind. Just got to keep moving and persevere through.

I’m glad you said that because I also thought there was way more pushing to the front than I’ve seen before. It was a 7.12 mile race that you could never use for any qualifying time, but you want to be close to the front, rats off to you. And the pushing was aggressive. I had a Brazilian group shove me to the side to cut to the front, so I had the true theme park experience. Even though I started close the to start line, it was horrendously congested. Oddly enough after I took a pit stop at the first porta potty, the course completely opened up.

Got this message about Everest being down in the app which is weird, right? Do we think it’s because they’re worried it’ll still be down tmrw?

That’s one thing I’ve liked at the races I’ve done where they start us out on the highway, there’s not that awful, shuffling stop-and-go walk to the start line. I still hate that mile walk out to those start lines though 😆😆

I’m glad it’s going to be cooler tomorrow, this is rough. That may be partially on me for being dumb enough to think that Jan will be cold and not bringing shorts. I should know better being from Houston…

This is totally Houston weather today!
