Wondering why I don’t see more love on here for Skipper Canteen. We loved it. It’s such a nice oasis in the middle of crowded Adventureland. My DH and I ate there on our first full day. We liked it so much we booked it again for when our son flew in.

I had the Tastes like Chicken. It was so good and I was so happy they could prepare it for me safely with my food allergy. DH had the veggie curry both times and said it was one of the best curries he has eaten. DS had the dan dan noodles.

I think it was our fave among the restaurants that were new to us this trip.

My why after several tries ~

~ I hate the big room. It's so loud and feels like a school cafeteria or food court. The small rooms are very inviting and interesting but if I can't book them, I don't want to chance the big room.
~ I find the menu very limiting and the side dishes cheap and boring.
~ Entrees overprice, way overpriced for what you get.
~ Appetizers, only Fried Rice is interesting and for $15 I'll pass.
~ We like a table full of appetizers, they seem to have purposely made them hard to share.
~ Any entrees we got I tasted and it was meh. Not one I'd want again.
~ I don't do curry, tofu or spicy.

I am glad it has fans and hope it stays full, but I do see them out front trying to get walk ups often. It just doesn't seem to have become a #mustdo for many, definitely not for us. Magic Kingdom dining is just so disappointing overall.

PS We have NEVER had a fun server. Honestly last time I just assumed they stopped doing it because we saw no fun happening around us. We went opening week so I gave them a break then, but it has become more boring over time. The plus of opening week is we got the last of the cool mugs that they have never brought back again.

I think a lot of people avoid it because they aren't huge fans of "adventurous" food or food that has any level of spice. I've been here twice and thought it was meh. It's the best of MK dining but that doesn't mean ANYTHING at all considering MK's dining options. As a fan of more unique options, I found the menu to be very boring and the food isn't spicy at all. It's on the lower end of "Disney spicy".

I know people love it but it's not for me. These days I leave MK and eat on the monorail loop or go to Disney Springs.

I went twice, one in the big room, once in a smaller room. Smaller room was definitely better.
Also the humour has to be your thing, I was fine, but my friend thought our server (in the big room) crossed the line from funny to rude.

We didn't mind it, and it's a vast improvement over a lot of the food at MK but it just felt like a Disneyfied PF Changs? Not bad but also not the most amazing thing ever?

The cheese bread appetizer was amazing but we had to send back both chicken entrees because the breading came off in the fryer and the chicken became tough. Came back out the second time and the same issue. Sawing through fried chicken with a butter knife and gnawing on it like a tough steak was not fun. A manager came over and said they would take care of it. They ended up taking the cheese bread off the bill which was the only thing we enjoyed....

This was just this past week.

I never eat in MK. The options are just horrible. So much better to take a break from park and enjoy a much better dining experience anywhere outside of MK.

On sunday I ate at Casey's Corner for the first time in about a decade and yup, still terrible. My family likes to do Kona Cafe as a break.

That eats such a large chunk of your park time though. Those of us who only visit once a year (or once a decade) don’t always want to sacrifice park time in transit to and from dining.

Never said it was the end all be all. Although my husband has eaten curry all over the world and he really did enjoy the veggie curry at Skipper.

But, yes, it’s akin to PF Changs. But PF Changs is way better than most restaurants at MK.

That’s a pretty big part of their menu. No wonder you don’t like it.

We ate in one of the small rooms and in the big room our second time. We preferred the liveliness of the big room. The small room was so quiet it was almost too quiet. We like to be able to speak freely without everyone in the room hearing our conversation.

I didn’t find it to be overly expensive considering this is Disney. It was one of our cheaper meals.

We’ve had many memorable meals here over the years so it’s still somewhere we’d return.

Our first try was in the big room shortly after opening. It was loud but the interesting menu and experience made up for it. Our server actually took us around to points of interest along with the funny commentary.

We returned twice where DS1 ordered the big fish both times and was just so much fun. He loved it!

Twice we were seated at the butterfly booth and just made for lovely relaxing afternoon meals.

The last time we went the menu didn’t seem as good though no regrets. I’d still go back when it works with our plans.

We did it early on when it first opened. We are big adventurous eaters, some love spicy, some don't, all love curry. I think of all the things we ordered and we tried almost everything only a couple dishes really impressed us. It wasn't terrible, it just wasn't good enough to make us feel like we wanted to go back and we haven't yet and no one has asked me about it again. Our waiter wasn't fun or exciting and I have been wanting to give it a second try, but I can't muster up any excitement for it. Maybe I'll try it once more on our next trip and report back.

We'll go again if it fits in? But for whatever bonkers reason we like LTT more even though we can get Colonial Americana at home.
