I love credit cards so much! v6.0 - 2023 (see first page for add'l details)

It has been so long since I've kept up with this thread (actually - last kept up 2 versions ago!), but I've just been scrolling through and it's great to see all the familiar "faces."

Quick question - I'm helping a family member who has a student loan they're trying to pay off (they have the cash). Loan is held by Firstmark. Does anyone know of a way to pay that off via credit card? The total is ~10k. Just looking to find a way to actually make this payoff worth something!

Thanks! After doing more research, it looks like Gift of College is the best (only) option.

Does anyone have a recommendation on a current sign up bonus for a 10k+ minimum spend that would make the ~$300 fee worth it?

We could supplement with other charges it if there was something in the 12-15k minimum spend range that was worth pursuing.
There's always Plastiq. It has a fee of 2.9%, pretty much the same as Gift of College and without the hoops to jump through. I've used Gift of College myself; it's best if you have a retail store that sells $500 GoC gc for a $5.95 fee but if you're paying $5.95 for $200 then I'd just as soon use Plastiq.

I would also check out PayPal BillPay to see if Firstmark is on there. Some payees only accept debit cards for payment though, even via PayPal but it's worth checking out. Definitely do a test payment first to make sure it's received on the other end.

As for best card, if it were me I'd get a Ink Cash card for the 75K SUB/$6K MSR and load up on vgc/mcgc at office supply stores when there's a promo going on (e.g. Staples has fee free MCGC this week) then use those on Plastiq. You'd still have $4K available for another card SUB. This is all assuming your family member is under 5/24 and is willing and able to make the necessary effort.
I had held off on using Plastiq after the bankruptcy was filed back in May (fallout from the Silicon Valley Bank failure), and only sent a payment earlier this month using Plastiq after I received an email from Plastiq saying that the acquisition was complete. The check is supposed to be deposited in about a week, so I can post back on here when it goes through. I've had a hard time finding DPs of success, so it's reassuring that @wanderlust7 has used it with no issues.
Just quoting myself to report the payment went through with no problem!

Did anyone use the recent Doc Hilton FNC link and not get their FNC? I met my spend around 9/1 and the 150k posted but not the certificate. I called Hilton and they can't see it and asked me to call Amex. Since this is my 2nd Hilton, I'm hesitant to call...
Here's my experience:
App'd and approved July 19
Met Spend August 2
Received email from Hilton Honors on Sunday, August 6.

The email gives you these instructions for booking:
1. Call 1 800 446 6677
2. Have your HH number ready - xxxxxxx
3. Be prepared to give your Cert # - it provides the last 4 and says you can view it in your HH account dashboard. This is the first HH FNC for me and I can only see those last 4 even in my account.

I would search to see if the email came. No email and nothing in your HHonors account, then looks like you may have to call Amex, especially since you received the points.

With my new CIU, I received a 5K credit line, which means I couldn't just slap all 6K on it at once. I put just $20 short of $5000 on it this morning. Payment is not due until Oct 26, but I'll probably pay it down pretty soon after the charges post.

Which brings me to my question: I can't find a closing date but seem to remember it's usually about 3 weeks before payment is due. Is that correct?

As soon as my payment posts and I can see available credit available, I'll charge the last $1020.

Once I get a card in my hands, all I want to do is immediately charge up the MSR and pay it off and wait for my SUB.

I know the feeling! Have some spend coming up by Oct 31, will probably have to cycle it in one month if I get approved when I apply. $5000 is a decent starting CL. Chase biz card closed Sept 7, due Oct 1.

Thanks for the details. I got the Amex email that I earned the 150K points but it had no reference to the FNC. Ugh, I wonder if the FN somehow didn't get attached to the offer. I know I definitely used the Doc link because this is my 2nd card and I got the popup without using that link. Looks like I'll have to call...

Got $300 from Chase today for the checking account offer. I know the $600 for the savings account will take a while.

Also finally got my Vanguard account connected to my Capital One account and put an order in today for t-bills at auction.

I did see on Doc that PNC's $400 bonus was still around. I haven't done a bonus with them in a few years, so that may be worth another look. Seems like a push from Chase will count as a DD but I'll double check data points.

I asked Chase for the 90k match on the CIC I opened at the end of June. I wasn't going to, but I'm just shy of meeting the spend and figured it was worth a shot. Their initial response was that they'd review my request and let me know in 2-3 days. I thought for sure they'd come back and say no, but they said yes! :cool1:

Yes, I was happy to have the 5K. Looking over my cards many that have payment dates of 24,25,26,27 range are closed on the 1st or 2nd.

I'm going to cycle it to get it done.

And, I've been in and out of the chase account all day. Noticed a 4.99 charge for a subscription TV. Not my charge so had to call in. Card was with me and haven't used it since last month at Staples. They are shipping out a new card with a new number.

This is the 3rd new number I've gotten in the last several months on my Chase account. Maybe its time to change my password again. The other charges (also small) were caught by Chase and they notified me I'd get new card.

I have a Chase offer for 10% back at TripAdvisor on DH's Freedom Flex. I made a purchase on 8/23 and still have not gotten the credit. I messaged them and they said it could take 14 business days. I messaged back and said it HAS been 14 business days. They said they can't help and to call the number on the back of the card. Not sure if DH will want to do that. Has anyone else successfully called about a Chase offer? There isn't a reason why it shouldn't have credited. Bought Halloween Horror Nights tickets and didn't use PayPal or any discount codes.

End of June? Wow, DH was approved June 8 for his last CIU, already met spend (was met by the July 7 statement!), never occurred to me to ask.

I probably won't try, since I will be having him app for the CIPreferred next week.

Ugh applied for another CIC and it's in review. I'm around 50 days from my last Chase card so fingers crossed I didn't get too greedy. I've seen lots of successful applications here that were in review so hopefully I get the same.
P2 applied CIP on 9/1. 9/8 got snail with a w9 to sign. Faxed it back immediately. Still crickets. Driving me crazy.

This is what it looks like when I'm logged into Hilton under the Account<Activity section. Mine specifically says 150k Welcome Bonus and 1 Free Night Reward alongside the date it posted.

On the account home page, mid page, is where it lists my certs:

had P2 refer me for CIP last night which got approved with 5k CL!

I havee 4800 in property taxes to pay10/15. and another $4800 due 11/10. If I add it to my paypal account how do I use Paypal to pay the property taxes? when I go online to my twp site to pay online, there's a 3rd party with a fee to use a CC and a small fee for ACH. Do I link to Paypal as a checking but since there's only $200 in there they charge my cc?

You would pay it through paypal's site or app using the "pay a bill" function, if your city is listed as a vendor. Mine is not. Here's a good tutorial: https://katiestraveltricks.com/paypal-bill-pay/

I couldn't see the bill pay option when I hit the elipses, so I had to zoom out for all of the options to show.

Well you inspired me to send off my own SM to Chase. I signed up for a CIU on June 26th. 75k bonus posted last month. I figure I have nothing to lose by asking for a match to the 90k offer.
