"Official" 2023 Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party - Let's Get Spooky!

We've done like 6+ MNSHHP parties over the years and did HHN for the first time ever on a last minute whim 30 minutes after it started last year. I am not a horror or haunted house person whatsoever, my boys really wanted to try it even though they were young (10 and 12), and Islands of Adv seemed crowded at 730p, so I said why not. I've been classically brainwashed to plan out every theme park thanks to Disney so we were going in blind not knowing what to expect or have any real strategy. We loved it, especially me, and it wasn't AS scary as I thought it would be. There's some gore but it was mainly just alot of jump scares in the houses and the scare zones and that's it (it helped my oldest son screamed like a girl so they targeted him relentlessly lol). I was in awe and appreciated the detail they put into the haunted houses and sets and costumes. Long story short we're hooked and doing it again this year. I'm more excited for it than the MNSHHP this year (especially when you factor in cost and crowds). It's definitely a sharp contrast but fun in a different way.
Disney could easily add in a Tower of Terror haunt event at HS and a Main Street electric parade type special event parade. They need to get back to the drawing board. The show and parade at MNSSHP hasn’t changed much (some floats have been added but Goofy used to throw candy from the huge candy float) and hub/main street is way too crowded.

We went to the 9/4 party. We had park reservations, Halloween Party tickets, an ADR at Tony's restaurant, Dessert Party tickets and a purchased ILL for Tron at 5:30PM. We took the bus from Old Key West. We arrived around 5:15PM.

The beginning was a little chaotic and unsure if we got incorrect information from a newer CM. We were walking past a very large group waiting to enter the park, this group was the guests who only had Halloween Party tickets and were waiting in line to get into the park. We walked around them since we had park reservations and there were shorter lines closer to the monorail area on the left for people with park reservations. As we were walking towards that area a CM blocked us and told us we couldn't go over to that area. We let him know that we had park reservations and again was told we couldn't go over to the area. Although there were other people going over to that area and being allowed in. We waited in the large group for about 10 minutes and saw another CM and asked if we were supposed to be in this group since we had park reservations. This CM said we could go over to the other area and we scanned into the park immediately.

After we scanned in we asked about getting wristbands and were told we needed to be in the other line with that large group to get them and that we could get them later. We walked over to Tron and was very surprised how dead it was. If you are wanting to walk right onto Tron whether purchasing an ILL or Virtual Queue this was the time to do it. We got over to Tron around 5:40PM and it was a complete walk on. Super easy, quick. There was no virtual queue group waiting either. I'm assuming it was so dead because the regular guests had to leave by 6PM.

After Tron we started back to the front of the Park to make our ADR at Tony's. After reading on the board about getting the wrists bands near Tomorrowland Terrace area we saw the sign to get wrists bands but there were not CM's there to hand them out. We only saw a line for people to get pic's near the Stitch area. We saw a large group of CM's on the other side of the street and walked over to ask about getting wrist bands and we were told to go back out to the front of the park to get them as the Tomorrowland area to get wrist bands were not opened yet. We couldn't wait as we had an ADR at Tony's so we headed to dinner.

We have never eaten at Tony's and had read a lot of negative reviews. I can say for us it was lovely. Very good food and great service. A CM came by while we were eating to ask if we were going to the party. We said yes and he said to make sure to get our wrist bands and told us we'd have to exit the park and enter the park again and then we'd get our wrist bands. We thought that was odd but ok.

After eating it was around 7PM and we walked to a CM directing traffic near the front of the park to ask about exiting and entering the park to get wrist bands. He said we wouldn't do that as that makes no sense and to go to the Tomorrowland area to get wrists bands. We were stopped three or four times on our way there by CM's checking why we didn't have wrist bands and politely explained we've been trying to get them since we entered the park at 5:30PM. LOL.

We made it back over to Tomorrowland area and saw the same sign about wrist bands and this time there were CM's handing them out after they scanned your magic band. There was no line and we got our wristbands and our trick or treat bags.

We saw long lines for meet and greets and the specialty food items. We decided to wait until 8:30-9PM to try the specialty food. We aren't character meet and greet people so that wasn't a priority. The longest line we encountered for specialty food was in Cosmic Rays. We got unlucky and the people in front of us ordered over $300 in food. I have no idea how many people were in their group but I have never seen so many drinks on a tray before. All we wanted to try was the Zombie Fingers which were were fantastic. You couldn't really taste the Almond but the key lime was awesome. Also tried the Sally Cake Pop and it was wonderful.

We checked into the Tomorrowland Terrace sit down Dessert Party at 9:10PM and got a prime table at the front. Great seats. The food was surprisingly very good. They had an Almond Cake Pop that was WOWZA. I do wish they had some savory items outside of cheese as I miss that from prior parties years ago. But it was worth it to us as being able to sit and enjoy the fireworks and not having to worry about not being able to see as we are super short.

We used DAS several times and went into the LL for that. No issues. We rode on everything we wanted with very little wait times. We rode most rides after the fireworks and found the crowds really thinned out. We wanted to trick or treat more but were so stuffed from the dessert party we didn't partake. We left around 11:30PM and took a Minnie Van back to Old Key West. This was the first time we took a Minnie Van and price wasn't that bad. We loved talking to the CM driving and it was air conditioned and being picked up at the park rather than having to go to the TTC for a rideshare made the extra cost worth it after a long day in the park.

Overall a little chaotic in the beginning but we had a great time. We loved seeing all the wonderful costumes that people wore. Some very creative people.
Thanks to your review/warning I’m no longer going to attempt to enter at 3:30 pm. We will be going earlier. It would have been a really bad start to the party if we were super stressed about getting in to make it to our 4 pm ADR. We will skip going in the am.

Pecos bill has gone downhill (meat is stale; CMs slow; missing items and it took us 1 hour to get to the front of the line; another 40 to wait for the chef for an allergy order) but is usually our lunch spot because DS can’t have eggs/dairy.

The only thing I want from there is the cajun Halloween burger. I really don't think I'd care for their food otherwise as I get pretty picky when it comes to Mexican. :)

Our ressie for CRT is for breakfast the morning of the party at 8:00 (a Thrusday). I'm really looking forward to this as I've never gotten to eat in the castle before. As we have tickets and reservations, I thought we'd ride a few rides - outdoor stuff especially- and leave around noon. Go to hotel and swim or rest and come back at least by 2:00. Then eat dinner at Columbia Harbor Hse around 3:00 and join the party when the time comes. Is this even doable??

We do have another day to do MK so I won't be missing out.

We went to one of the Halloween Parties in 2021, and didn't really enjoy it too much (cost vs value trade was poor, and that Party ended at 10 PM, I believe [still under some COVID protocols]). We are planning to take a husband/wife birthday trip next year (sans kid), and I am leaning towards doing the Party, since we love Halloween. The new picture backgrounds for 20,000 Leagues, Toad, and Headless Horseman sort of drew our attention! Some of the criticisms this year remind me of my gripes from 2021 - huge crowds, long waits, limited actual food, all for a premium ticket price.

That said, if I don't really care about the rides (excepting BTRR, HM, and PotC) or trick or treating, might it still be worthwhile to people watch and enjoy wandering and seeing some of the parades, shows, and rarer characters (we'll skip the 7D and NbC characters, leaving them for the diehards) with a visit for the two of us? Also, if we are there Thursday, Friday, and Sunday night, I am leaning towards Friday night as the night (since we are taking Sat as a full resort day) - is there a significant difference in crowds on any of those nights that would favor one over the others?

I was even considering two MNSSHP nights to maximize our fun, but I'm definitely leaning back towards a single night now. Just want to make sure fun can still be had with structured goals :)

Is the only place to buy the Not So Scary Halloween pin is on Main Street at the Emporium? Or are there other locations?

Thanks to everyone who is posting about their experiences for this year. I have never been to MNSSHP before, so this all new to me. I am now nervous about what time to arrive at MK to get into the party. We are not going to MK during the day, just the party. We want to do some of things between 4 and 6pm that close at 6pm, like the Carousel of Progress and Bears Jamboree, so we want to get into the park close to 4pm. Any strategies would be greatly appreciated. Where is the best place to enter, is the main entrance the only entrance? Trying to make this an enjoyable experience for my son who gets anxious. We are so looking to going in 2 weeks!

Plan to be waiting outside for at least 40 mins. Transportation takes an hour or so as well. Make sure you have neck towels, misting fans (umbrellas need to be held and visible going through the scanners) as there is no shade.

Since my party hasn't happened yet, I will defer to others who gave advice about lining up to get in (I've never experienced the length of waits being reported when I've attended previous parties - it's definitely concerning for me and my own plans).

But as someone who gets anxious about things going well and arriving on time, I tend to arrive to the MK area well before I even plan to get in line for the party. It is fun to explore the monorail resorts and if you don't have lunch plans, there are plenty of options. I usually bring a book and spend time resting in the air conditioning at one of the resorts and then walk over to MK when I want to get in line. Being able to walk when you're ready is nice and I find it less stressful than trying to time the busses. This might be a nice option for your son to reduce any anxiety around transportation, especially where it seems like for those of us with only party tickets who want to do things from 4-6pm, there's really no way to get around the extremely long waits to get in.

Head straight to whichever character is a priority Jack & Sally/Seven Dwarfs but many guests who are in the park and getting bands from other areas will also start heading towards these. In years past DVC members used to be able to enter and line up at 2pm (that benefit has gone). I believe that’s why you see more crowding at the entrance.

Oct 27 has another pass holder pre event (not sure if that impacted crowds at meet & greets).

How long is that special entrance open where they give out the treat bags and have a few photo set-ups?
I’m not sure because it’s used to separate party guests from regular guests. I would think it will at least be open until 7 pm (people are still exiting an hour after park close).

I would like to verify this as well because we will be near the castle around 6 pm after dinner and the photo ops in the special entrance area are really good (esp with the large Mickey trick or treat sign).

Just found this really good article about lining up early (I would stay hydrated: take liquid IV or pedialyte electrolyte packets).

I seem to recall the party map said it was open until 8pm. I definitely went through it after 7pm.

I've seen where when you enter the party, while the park is still open, that they have all the party guests veer to the right. Does that go to Tomorrowland? If so, does that make it really crowded in Tomorrowland and therefore the ride wait times in that area aren't very good at first?

If we wanted to start in a different land to avoid crowds, what is the best way to get there (Fantasy or Adventure), based on how they have things routed?

You'll hear this refered to as the 'pass through' or 'by pass' entrance, and it takes you behind the shops on Main Street. You exit between the bathrooms and the Crystal Palace. You're free to turn left toward Adventureland - we did! You're also usually free to skip the pass through and that first candy stop.

No actually it’s on other side of main st. And comes out between those bathrooms on your right and the Plaza Restaurant around on the left.

Quick question for a friend. What is Minnie wearing at this year's party and where is she meeting?
