Poseidon’s Fury Closing Permanently May 9, 2023

I thought they had announced that a few years ago. I remember watching it specifically because of the announcement.

This along with the Sinbad show closing most likely signals the end of the Lost Continent. I love the area music that plays there (especially around the Mythos restaurant) but there is so much Universal can do with that space. Hope the Zelda rumor ends up being true.

They did work to Poseidon and re-opened but I think most guests run right past it to Hagrids or Velocicoaster. That area is not doing anything for guest absorption. That is a nice space for a total gut and rebirth.

Perhaps with the huge success of The Mario Bros movie they will go back to the idea of some Mario in the existing theme parks. They really could install something pretty fast.

Dang, we'll be there 2 weeks after close for the first time and hoped to check it out as an escape from the heat, if nothing else!

I go to Universal often and I barely see anyone going into Poseidon's Fury. Most of the time, that area of the park barely has any people in it. I haven't seen the show since 2012 but I remember thinking it was pretty bad back then. I might go see it one more time before it closes.

Mario wouldn't fit the current aesthetic the Lost Continent has at all IMO. The Legend of Zelda has an entire race that are very similar to ancient Greeks that would fit perfectly in this space. I do wonder if the success of the Mario movie made Nintendo + Universal seriously consider doing a Zelda movie next and are considering plans to use that IP in this area.....

I think Zelda could fit - if they decide to keep the existing theme. But money talks and with proven success of Mario I wouldn't rule out complete demolition.

I agree I am not surprised, no one goes in and honestly none of the attraction will be missed other than the vortex, that was cool! It was simply too old school.

On our first (so far only) trip to Universal, I didn’t even realize there was an attraction there, so we missed doing it. I had planned to check it out on our upcoming August trip, but obviously now won’t be able to! I’m a little disappointed!

Wow, that kinda of surprises me as they just spent money on refurbishment. I don't really love the look of that area, but it definitely needs something! Well glad we got to experience it last year lol first and last time I guess. I thought it was really a neat idea, but could have been executed a bit better.

Surprised as well that it is closing so soon after the refurb, but not too surprised about it closing overall. It was never a big draw for most of the crowds, and many that went through it were left underwhelmed. It had its positives (great sets, water vortex tunnel) but overall felt very dated. It's removal now opens up the entire land to be redeveloped as there are no attractions left. Just shops and Mythos. I imagine Zelda is a likely candidate as it will be the easiest to incorporate without having to change everything and is one of the biggest Nintendo franchises. They already have Mario and Donkey Kong coming in Epic Universe so Zelda seems a safe bet to IoA for further IP.

This whole notion that things have to "fit" is dead idea. The parks have become of just a mish mash of different rides, I'm not complaining just stating a fact.

I don't really care what they put there because it will be way better then Poseidon's fury

Massive area connected to Hogsmeade. Pulled this off Twitter. They could really expand Hogsmeade if they scraped the Lost Continent
I don't think they would expand Hogsmeade to fill that area. That would be a pretty massive expansion of the land, that isn't really needed. They already have 3 rides, 2 being major attractions, plus the Hogwarts Express. With Hogwarts, Hogsmeade Village, and Forbidden Forest already covered by these I'm not sure what all they would really add. The main thing I could see would be either a stage show using the Sinbad theater or a Shrieking Shack attraction to fit the Hogsmeade theme (again utilizing the Sinbad theatre space. That would still leave the rest of the land to do something with. I think it's much more likely for them to retheme the whole area into a new land.

A version of Midway Mania (for those who know the ride from Disneyland or WDW) that's Quidditch tryouts instead arcade games. Each screen/room is trying out for a different position.

However, I would be totally fine with something other than Harry Potter taking over the land. As long as Mythos stays in some form, I'm good.

It would be smart of them to do Zelda, then the "Nintendo only" people will have to get park-to-park tickets, like the "Harry Potter only" people do now.

That said, it wouldn't surprise me if they basically ignored it for a while, since they're already focusing a lot of effort into Epic Universe. There will be plenty of time later to add to IoA. For now, few people will really notice/care that they're walking by an empty area that expands back far enough that it will eventually be another attraction.

Yea given that PF has been closed more than open the past few years, this won't really make a huge difference for that area. So while it will basically be an empty land for real now, it doesn't really change much so I don't think they will feel the pressure to rush anything. However, Universal does seem to keep steady progress going and tries to have new stuff every year, and has shown than can get construction done quickly too when needed. With the Minons this year, revamped Kidzone next year, and Epic Universe in 2025, I could see a new land replacing Lost Continent in 2026 or possibly 27. This would give them 3-4 years to construct it which is ample time for Universal. Jaws closed in January 2012 and Diagon Alley announced soon after and opened July 2014. So 2.5 years to change Amity Island area into Diagon Alley would allow similar timeline for Universal to change Lost Continent into a new land for 2026.
