The Meat at Walmart Scares Me

Well, beef is grown by family, or ex family but my ex father-in-law packs a box for me still. So yeah, Walmart meat does suck, as does beef from the grocery store, farm market, and butcher, LOL.

Beef isn't suppose to smell like Walmart's beef does.

I don't eat chicken, but do buy pork there if I happen to be there. I choose not to shop at Walmart as much as possible, but do on occasion for the non-food items.

It's difficult to shop at my local Walmart, they don't ever stock the store. It's always empty no matter when I go in. Been back in this town for 7 years, bacon and sausage, always empty. 2 slots for my preferred deodorant I haven't seen stocked in 7 years. This isn't pandemic stuff, this is how it has been for the 7 years I've been back in town.

My Walmart has many self checkouts, even 3 or 4 with belts for large quantity purchases. But yeah, many times only one or two staffed registers are open.
Forgot about the self checkout vs. cashier. For some reason even though they don't have product on the shelves to buy, the self checkout line is an absolute mess with the number of people standing in a non-line because there's no room for everyone to stand away from the checkouts. And there are always at least 6 cashiers manning the regular registers.

True, and most that is garbage no matter where you get it. lol
Indeed, those names don't enter my head when you say "food". When you say "food", beef, pork, chicken, seafood, vegetables, and fruit come to mind. Not saying I don't eat garbage, just that if I'm shopping for food, it's not in the inner aisles.

It’s not my favorite store, but we only shop in the store 3-4 times per year, mainly when I have a gift card to use. I really dislike their cashier area. Only a few cashiers open, with long lines and for some reason, our store installed shorter conveyor belts at the staffed checkouts. The bags on their carousel fill up as they are scanning my groceries and I have no more room on the belt to put my groceries from my cart. It’s just nuts and I always leave and vow not to come back - until the next gift card 😀

Rarely buy anything at Walmart. The 2 closest to us are so-so. We have ordered non-grocery items online. The 3rd closest is a better store , but the savings aren't worth the drive. I shop there if it is for something I need no one else carries. I usually get my meat from the local Acme or Wegmans. A little pricey but it just the 2 of us & we only eat meat once a week. The rest is poultry which I get from Acme or ShopRite depending on sales and fish from Wegmans

Raise your hands anyone that thought Oreo brand cookies were different than Oreo brand cookies? Hmmm. I don't see any hands. Guess we didn't need a lecture on that subject.

Walmart meat and vegetables are inferior. As for things Nabisco might make, the little amounts of that type of thing I buy, I use store brands more often than not. And those are not EXACTLY the same at every store. Furthermore, just because dairy X bottles some Walmart milk does not mean it is to the same standard as the name brand dairy X makes. And as Walmart uses several suppliers for milk, the milk at one Walmart may not have even come from the same place as another.

I get it. You want to defend Walmart at all cost for some reason. But the bottom line is I would only choose them if the choice were Walmart vs Dollar General or Family Dollar. They aren't substantially cheaper when all is said and done and I get better elsewhere.
Hey, I get some folks don't like Walmart. But get real, milk is milk. They have no idea where the milk is going when they bottle it. It all goes into cold storage until they have an order of it, they pull what number of jugs they need, and then put the label on it.

It's funny but I was telling someone just within the past week how the mere mention of the name "Walmart" here sends people into a frenzy. The retail version of "Valdemort".

I was at Walmart within the last 2 hours. Needed cat litter, and picked up a pint of Ben & Jerry's for almost $2 less than the local grocery store.

I even eat Walmart meat and produce. Pray for me.

Our house is stocked with primarily with Walmart. Costco for some things (especially chicken although their salami is good too and we get our meatballs there as well) with a smidgen of Aldi thrown in sometimes Price Chopper when needed. Just did a grocery pick up this past Sunday at Walmart although my husband had to go the next day to the local international market store for a particular sauce we were wanting but in fairness neither Walmart, Price Chopper nor Aldi had it despite at least Walmart and Price Chopper having spots on the shelf for it.

With all the dislikes here, it is amazing that Walmart is number one of the top 10 retailers. Number two being Amazon, three being Costco.

I think there are many small towns and more rural areas where Walmart is the only big store to shop at.

I choose not to shop there, I do not like the company, but I have many options. Target, Costco, Aldi, Giant, Harris Teeter, Safeway, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and more.

Of course. That’s why I posted a click-baitey title. :stir:

The topic seems to be a trigger for many, both good and bad.

In general, I don’t use Walmart as a supermarket, but will pick up a few things in the grocery section if I’m there for another reason.

I’ve always liked Acme for meats.

A Wegmans finally came to my area this past December, about 10 miles away, but I haven’t been there yet. I need to check it out.

True enough, but that’s an objective list based on gross revenue.

If you seek out subjective opinion polls on supermarket preferences, Walmart is usually way down the list. Places like Wegmans, Publix, and Harris Teeter often are at the top.

Yes, but some small towns can’t support a Walmart. I notice that Dollar General fills the need in those places.

DG seems to be popping up everywhere over the last several years, even in areas with plenty of other stores. The newer ones are actually pretty nice. Some of the old ones, on the other hand…:crazy2:

I don’t like Walmart, but I do like their prices, so I do shop there.
We also belong to Sam’s Club because I like it better than Costco. One year we did both memberships at the same time, as an experiment to see which one we went to more, and Sam’s Club won by a landslide.

Oh, I used to love Wegman's back when I lived in NY! I was into candy-making, and they had the colored vanilla melts in bulk, so I could get only what I needed of each.

That was a long time ago, but definitely check it out and see if you like it now.

I don't hate Wal-Mart or anything, but I don't go there too much. There are a few things that are just so much cheaper than Kroger, that I will go in and stock up on those.
