The Running Thread -- 2022

I discovered a new to me running route while at Wine & Dine last weekend. I see a lot of questions about good places to run while at wdw so I wanted to share. It wasn't the most scenic sidewalk, but it was perfectly safe and some parts even offered shade! Basically, there's a sidewalk that connects the all stars to Coronado. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way for this, but if you're staying at either, it's a good way to get more mileage without as many loops.

If you want the map, check out my journal entry:

I’ve run that while staying at both CSR and All Stars - it’s surprisingly pretty and peaceful, isn’t it?!

@Marebear_runs - congrats! I know someone who BQ'd at the same race. I also ran a half NYQ and registered about an hour after it opened for the 2020 race and was shut out (time qualifier entries were gone in 20 min) but that was the 50th anniversary. I made sure not to repeat registering last year. I deferred so hopefully I'll see you in 2023!

@PrincessV happy to hear your pain issues have improved!

I know this is late but here's my October tallies:
Miles: 84 mi
Avg pace: 8:34
Ran a marathon and took 2 weeks off

I like it except...I think I would get some sort of post trauma stress during the portion from Blizzard Beach to Coronado reliving the 2020 Marathon. I made the cutoff before rD shortened the course but ended up behind the thousands of runners who were rerouted. Being forced to walk a couple of miles because there was no space to run was probably a health benefit for me at the time, but it was still frustrating.

I was just behind the course cut and in that same crowd. UGH it was brutal and crowded from that spot all the way into Epcot!

Good to know, thanks! I’ll plan on jumping online as soon as it opens just in case there’s high demand this year. Glad you got in for next year—it looks like so much fun!

I am thinking of going back to Big Bear for the full in 2024 to try for a BQ. Never thought that I would say that, but it looks like I’d stand a chance. The downhill is brutal though. My legs are still incredibly sore 3 days out just from the half. I thought I did enough downhill training to prepare for it, but I was wrong!

Anyone have experience with the Noxgear 39g speaker? Wondering if it would be suitable for small-group runs or if it’s really just loud enough for the wearer?

No experience with that, but I used this little JBL clip-on speaker for my Electric Water Pageant costume at last year's 5K and it worked well with a wide volume range that was easy to adjust with the controls on the front. It's rechargeable and easily lasted through the whole race (I walked) and playing a little bit pre-race and corrals as people asked about my costume. I loved that the clip is built into it, like a carabiner, and it's waterproof. It is a tiny bit heavy for the size.

I completed my first run while snowing of the season today (northwest suburban Chicago). The snow from Monday night had melted and the ground was just warm enough that the light snow today didn't stick. I overdressed a bit with my heavier smartwool base layer and a rD shirt, running gloves and a baseball hat, but I did not want to start the season cold.

I did my first snow run yesterday in MN and also overdressed. As a funny coincidence, when I hit shuffle on my Disney playlist, the first song that played was “Let It Go” 😄😄

So, um, no snow, but it’s 48 hours of “winter” here in FL! 52* and a little windy this morning: full-length tights, short sleeve tee topped with tech jacket zipped aaaalll the way up, Headsweats cap. Shoulda added an ear cover and gloves: my extremities were cold! Low tonight in the 40s - glad I’m not running in the morning; I’ll be wearing a down jacket to work. :teeth:

I am drenched in sweat just reading this...:rotfl:

As someone who likes heat but lives in the Northeast, I want this to be my life. I want to think 52 is cold!

Yup. 50 degrees and breezy for my run after work last night. 3/4-length tights, thermal long sleeved shirt and gloves. Did not overheat.

Can you send just a little bit of that cold down here. I'd love for it to be in the 60s for my run after work, but it's still in the 70s. In fact, I did a 7 mile Tempo run at 6:00 yesterday and it was 81*.

i feel like a wimp. I usually run in the morning before work but it is supposed to be 28 with a real feel of 22. i blocked my calendar at lunch so i can run then. I prefer the morning so it is done. I am hoping you all give me the strength to get out there at 6:30.
