Figment Popcorn Bucket Insanity

I think that the Figment popcorn bucket is so sweet! If I didn't have to wait more than half an hour I'd line up for one. That line was way too long for me. But if you want to stand in line who am I to judge? And why tie up access to a booth? I wonder if they sold alot of food there that day.

I do wish they'd set up a small cart right next to the booth and sell them there so you can get to the food. I don't collect popcorn buckets, but I would LOVE a figment one, they're so freakin' cute! At this rate, I'm not sure any will even be available when I go in about a week, but I'm also not waiting forever if there are. I don't like them THAT much. But dangit, so cute.

There are already 5 on Ebay with multiple bids for over $100.

But yes Disney, don't worry about redoing Journey Into Imagination to make it better. No one cares about Figment.

Imagine the line if "$5 from the sale of each popcorn bucket will go to an update of Journey Into Imagination"...

Now we just need a Yeti popcorn bucket with accompanying fund raiser ("He's been stuck at the disco far to long. Won't you help...")

I kinda hope the bids on some of these Ebay listings are people using fake accounts to win the buckets and then not pay for them. Just to waste the seller's time.
Shill: an accomplice of a hawker, gambler, or swindler who acts as an enthusiastic customer to entice or encourage others.

It is not uncommon for bidders to be accomplices of sellers on eBay.

By bidding up one or two items that have gone 'viral' (popcorn buckets in this instance), the goal is to increase the expected price of the same product for future sales.

Also, like most markets, after the frenzy has subsided, prices will likely 'normalize' at some lower rate.

These Figment items are not rare. Bidding up the price is a fools errand.

Finally, Disney probably gets more value from the free advertising of the meme being in the news than had they charged $100 for a plastic bucket.

We were leaving Soarin' at regular park open today. The people came streaming in, running to get to Pop Eats. It caused a woman to drop her Figment bucket and his leg broke off 😭 I have thought about this all day and really hope she was able to get it replaced. She seemed so excited to have it.

I think I saw that they were unavailable/sold out by this afternoon. I'm hoping that this is only a day stock thing and not that they are all gone already - I have a friend who's a huge Figment fan and I was hoping to get her one when we are there in early February...
Unless they do a restock mid-festival most likely sold out sold out and since this festival is short and the supply chain is influx I would wager there sadly won’t be a restock… though if there is one please can it be between Feb 5th-11th

That's too bad for the people that wanted one of these.

We've seen this before from Disney with the popcorn buckets, where they sell out quickly. Disney needs to purchase enough to have a reasonable chance at offering them throughout festivals/holidays in the future. They shouldn't just sell most of them to local AP's who in turn flip them for a profit.

Then it's time Disney start revoking APs from all who are caught reselling the buckets.

This kind of thing is a main reason I stopped going to parties. At Disney, my favorite thing is shopping. If I'm there during a special event, I want the danged merch! It was getting impossible to get anything I wanted. I wish Disney would figure out a better system to at least get them in the hands of people that wanted them. I have no idea what that would be. Maybe a more random lottery system? I have no idea They never curtailed the Vinylmation resales either. Don't get me wrong, I do not fault people for buying one or 2 extras to sell. I'm happy to pay people an uncharge and fair market rate for the efforts. But carloads people are getting is just plain wrong.

Disney has a serious problem with ordering too few of items that they know will sell like bananas and this proves it. They never order enough 3X mercy either. It's the first size to sell out every danged time. If they did larger, they'd sell too, but I digress. The popcorn buckets are the hot collectible right now. the better the bucket, the better the sales. I've bought 3 of the resales on eBay in the last 3 months. I don't mind. I can't get to the places they re when they're there and someone that can, I"m happy to pay. There just has to be a better way.

Disney could just sell them on their own website too. That would put a stop to the rampant reselling. Assuming they manufacture enough.
They try that, it doesn't stop people from having multiple accounts and using family and friends. That's the biggest complaint Disney gets w/ their website is things selling out despite the 2 per person limit. I know the last 2 lengthy surveys I've gotten from Disney in the past 6 month serious hint that they know this. I still give them an earful.

Which comes back to - manufacture enough! If there wasn't a resale market, people wouldn't need to game the system to purchase more. Who would pay inflated e-bay prices when you could get it at the (less inflated) list price?

And when people aren't buying 8 just to resell 7, it's easier to keep them in stock.
