OC Register lists Genie Plus and Lightning Lane rides

Exactly. Do I pay extra for my family to go on RSR that only one kid REALLY wants to go on? Nope, sorry kid, you've already been on that ride 500 times in your life. Even paying extra for just 1 parent to take said kid makes me pause. ILL def caters to the once and done visitors. What real value is there to come back and pay that again? Once you've done a ride once and the surprise factor is gone, is it really worth $15 to do again?
And I believe that's the reason and purpose of LL, along with VIP tours too. Those who have limited time and resources to fund -- have a way forward to experience what they want.

Same goes for MK holders that go at a different speed and pace. Why SHOULD we pay for LL? nope. No happening. Maybe not even G+ in its current state for many.

These changes all won't fit everyone clearly. Overall, it's an improvement on access for folk. I've known plenty of people missing the BGs and would gladly fork over $$ for LL options.

Different strokes for different folks and Disney is trying to find a place for all with multiple options. --- and optimizing revenue at the same time.

Planning a visit in March - myself, DH, DD and my Sweet DGS who will be seven... 5 nights...

This most likely will be a one time for them, DD and DGS, and for us as well, we have been once already...

So we are trying to decided on where to stay, and such... thinking of Good neighbor hotel package...

Looking at trying to figure out and understand how Genie works... and how we can use it... is it worth it for us, DH and DGS do not ride roller coasters.. DD and DGS are Star Wars, Marvel and Avenger fans for sure... I really haven't started research all this till we made the decision this week...

Is the lighting land the same as Genie..... not really understanding this... We are AP holder WDW... so right now Genie is not going to effect us...

Could someone please give me a simple run down of how it works... When it will be in play... and suggestion if we should plan to use this option?

Thanks way in Advance... :thanks: :surfweb:pixiedust:

I'm curious why Disneyland's Genie+ is delayed.

Does anyone else think it might launch with some changes from WDWs version? I feel like they know it won't be very popular here and are scrambling around behind the scenes trying to figure out a way to make it more palatable, particularly to passholders. It's gonna be a much harder sell here than at WDW.

Welcome to the West coast! Unlike WDW - 6+Month planning isn't needed for Disneyland. :D

If you're a Disney bubble family, you're going to need to stay with Disney properties. If not, lots of choices to determine what you want and experience with the hotels. Distance walking vs Motel style lodging (exterior hallways).

As for Genie+/Lightning Lanes - not out yet and probably will be adjusted between rollout and March anyways.

With 5 days and WDW experience, you'll be able to hit everything with relative ease with/without G+ or LL. Even then; on day 5 -- splurge on LL if haven't gotten to the must-haves.

-Bring back the flat fee for MK holders.
-Bring back the 1.5+ hour 2nd pass
-Allow choice of time on the passes

--that'll bring MK holders to G+ in droves.

Ding, ding, ding!

We have a winner!

As a family of 4 Dream Keys, we won't buy this until it's sold as a pass add on. And even then, the price needs to be right.

The price would have to be right for me to purchase as an add-on to a Magic Key. But RSR excluded entirely gives me a really bad taste in my mouth. I can see ROTR, although I still hate that because it’s my son’s favorite ride. I love it too but I won’t pay for it. Losing the virtual queue is downgrade *for me* (we have been able to ride a number of times utilizing the virtual queue). And speaking of add-on price, it’s probably going to be insane, like $200/year. Times that by an adult and two kids and that’s $600 per year. That gives me such a huge pause. I don’t even know. I’m just sad Disney is cheapening the Disney experience like this.

Um… don’t then. That’s actually ideal, you local guys can go on a really off peak time when lines aren’t bad.

For the people like me that are spending $800 on flights, $2000+ on hotel, knowing I can guarantee being on Rise three or four times during the week for $60 extra… priceless

I *hate hate hate* paying extra for stuff like this, but I actually think it’s pretty solid. They need to do something to allow reduced times for single day guests or out of town guests or people that only go one in their life or once every five years or something.

But they need to do something so it won’t get bogged down like RSR Fastpass. If by 9:45am or something the return if 7:35pm WITH a Fastpass… well, it’s not the best system.
Um…we won’t. Like I said. Us locals can go on a off peak time? So locals shouldn’t be able to go on holidays? You sound pretty privileged. A disney guest is a Disney guest. Whether you entered with an annual pass, a ticket, free because your a CM, we should ALL have the chance to go when we want and ride a ride with low waits. To defend Disney on charging for something that was free is ludicrous. And you don’t need to justify them charging for fastpass by saying “allow reduced times for single day guests or out of town guests” because they could of still had free fastpass and added a guaranteed fastpass for 1 ride for ticket purchasers on top of that like RSR. If you continue defending their nickel and dimeing, they will never stop. Don’t lose sight of that. Changes can always happen for a better guest experience WITHOUT charging more.

Is there any other source to the “one use per ride per day” other than that one Tweet (or was it Instagram?) where someone claimed it but the attached video had no hint of it? Not saying it won’t happen but so many folks now seem to be taking it as fact.

Your statement doesn't make sense. I want to go on NYE and ride the rides with low waits. According to your wording, Disney should make that work for me.

That said, my overall take away is you don't want the LL or Genie+.

If someone wants to pay for Genie to make their wait shorter, go for it. If you don't want to, that is fine also. But do you also complain about USH having their FOTL passes?

I am sure there will be low wait times for certain rides at certain times, but people will have to tease them out. We won't know til we figure it out.

Personally, I am going to wait until I see it in action before I make complaints/compliments.

We aren't local, but aren't one-and-done either. My family of four went about every other year, and used the heck out of FP and MaxPass. Now that we are vaxxed and COVID is better managed, the only thing stopping me from booking a 2022 trip was the lack of MaxPass. With this news, today I booked a DL trip, our first trip *anywhere* in almost 2 years. I am thrilled for G+. Is it exactly what I would want? No, but it's good enough to bring us back!

Losing the virtual queue is downgrade *for me*

As I understood it, the virtual queue would still exist. The ILL would be the option for those who have to ride it but didn't get in on the virtual queue.

Apparently it was seen during trials, and was explicitly stated at a media event.

Although that was for WDW. It’s always possible that rules will be different for DL when it launches.

Sorry, Hairy, but as someone who has to jump through, literally, $1000+ of Covid test hoops, pay 35% premium on the US/CAN $, and gets to visit, if lucky, once every 2-3 years, you sound pretty privileged to me.

For many, a trip to Disneyland is a once-in-a lifetime or, maybe, thrice-in-a-decade trip. If you have the opportunity to re-visit DL multiple times and, ride the coveted rides more than once (as MANY seem to do, regularly) then, IMO, you are privileged and as such, I hope you can take pity on those of us who will spend upwards for $7,000 for 4 people for 3 days and might not get the chance to ride RSR or ROTR once. Not once. If we are being offered the chance to do that for an extra charge, but you can do it without one, please at least allow us to do that WITHOUT dissing the place we've been saving years to visit.

The Virtual Queue may or may not exist when this all goes down. In WDW, they have stopped the VQ for Rise. It is standby only. Right now, Saturday, 7pm, wait time is 60 mins.

They stopped it at WDW because the crowd levels at the time were not really warranting it. They said from the announcement of stopping it that it could be reinstated at any time. (And 60 minutes? Please. Flight of Passage - which has never had a virtual queue - is REGULARLY 120 minutes. 60 is child's play.)

Agreed. People were predicting 5 hour waits.

Yeah. I suspect that as crowds ramp up for the holiday season we may see it reinstated. Everything I've seen has indicated that the rides that have a virtual queue (at WDW it's been Rise and now Remy) will maintain (or reinstate) that and also have the ILL so that people who don't get the virtual can have the option to purchase. (And honestly? At least regarding WDW (which is where I usually go - I'm on here because I'm going to DL Feb 20-25!!!!!!), I'd kind of like to go back in time and find all the posts here and elsewhere by people who said they would pay to be guaranteed a ride on Rise and are now complaining that Disney essentially took them up on it.)

This source refers only to the tweet I mentioned above. They also said it was communicated to media outlets but I have yet to see another media outlet report the same. Again, it might be true but I get skeptical when all reporting keeps getting traced down to a single tweet.
