Fastpass return or replacement?

Piggybacking my own post, I couldn't even get through the panel portion of the 14 minute video. As soon as I saw that all the panelists were nodding along in agreement I knew better than to expect any critical analysis, they appeared to be there because they were "yes men" who either would completely agree with the presenter or, worse IMHO, pose questions designed to allow him to spin any concerns people might have about the new system.
Um, it was totally posed/preselected questions. No doubt about it. It was all PR.

Here’s a question: you are a family of 4. Does each person have to book individually? If so what if 3 of the 4 can buy ROTR but the 4th misses? Now someone has to wait with Timmy while mom and Jane ride: the person who has to wait also loses their money since they can’t use the ala carte pass. Same thing with a LP for say haunted mansion at noon?

I would imagine you reserve it with your whole group, just like FP+ or boarding groups.

My guess would be that you can select or delete the people in your plans like you can when getting a boarding pass.

I can almost guarantee you will be able to add genie+ to your AP. You could do it with maxpass on your Disneyland AP and genie+ is essentially a new version of maxpass with a few changes
Oh, I meant that if G+/LL isn't included with the AP pricing, that it would results in a new revenue stream for Disney that did not exist in the previous AP's. I'm sure you can add it to the Magic Key/WDW AP passes.

If I purchase a LL pass for myself and we use rider swap would my wife still need to pay for a LL pass to go on it after me

Yeah, I suppose it shows I was being a bit naive. I shouldn't have expected there to be anyone that would ask a critical question in a video they produced but somehow I was hopeful. That's really on me.

I think there’s a CHANCE that you don’t have to get up at 7. We won’t know till people start using it, but there’s a chance that one result of the system is that something like SDD is still available 10am.
And that's the really bad part of this, that there might "only be a chance" that something is available. I cannot remember now, are you allowed to pick a time or does the new system's just plug you in the next available space?

1. Doing away with tiering so I don’t have to choose between Frozen for my daughter or Test Track for myself and husband.
2. Taking away the advantage of guests staying for long trips. We go for three night visits typically. I always set my alarm at the 60 day mark and could never get FoP, SDD, sometimes Mine Train.
3. Doing away with the need to refresh. I was always the refresh person in our group and I spent way more time than I cared to at it.
4. Giving me an alternative option if I’m shut out of RotR. I won’t always pay the upcharge for it, but I’m very happy to know I have a backup plan if I’m going with someone whose never been on it.
5. Giving me numerous ways to shorten lines ie rope drop, boarding pass, virtual standby, G+, LL, etc. I can roll these together to make the best plan possible for the way my family tours.

I find a ton of value in this system so far and am excited learn more!

None of those things require a paid system. I can understand why you might like a different way of doing it. But that's going back to my analogy about different restaurants and personal taste. The question I asked was specifically about any added value to justify charging for a free system, rather than your personal preference. Based on your response it looks like you prefer the new system, so you consider the added cost worth it as it fits your personal taste better. But as that shift could have been done via adjustments to the free system it still results in you as a consumer being worse off.

I didn’t mean “there’s a chance” as in when you go you will cross your fingers that what you want is available.

I meant there’s a chance that once the system is underway, we will see that one natural side effect is that we will learn that it’s still easy to get headliners later into the morning.

I think we will be able to find out if you MUST get up at 7am or if this system works great and let’s you get what you want throughout the day. We won’t know till it starts though.

Even as a local AP holder I can live with paying for genie plus each visit and headliners that my kids might want to do that day. Will there be any booking option for LL for off site people or will they just not know if they can get on that ride via LL until they arrive on property?

This could be the final straw that tips the "should we move away from Orlando" scale. FastPass+ is the only thing that makes the place bearable. Having to pay $15 a person on top of a ticket? Not gonna do it. I wish Universal was a more enjoyable place to be - our tickets there provide the equivalent of a fast pass after 4 pm.
If fast passes is why you would leave ORL, good bye. What about :hurricanes, I-4, toll roads , tourist, traffic, hot weather, TOURIST!, gators , python's ,and less not forget about traffic and tourist

Okay I am late to this party and have been skimming but …. Is this Lightning Lane thing a book day of thing, when you are already in the park? … I’ve already got anxiety :crazy2:

And I am thinking the other way, especially with crowds being high almost all the time now. I am thinking that there are going to be a lot of people shutout of their favorite rides unless they get online at around 7AM. I guess time will tell:)

Some big questions that I still have.

(1) When does this launch?

"Fall" could be September 1. Or it could be November. One would think that they would want it in place for the 50th, and they would want to work out the kinks beforehand. So maybe just after Labor Day? Or does this, like everything else new, start on October 1?

(2) When you are paying extra for the Lightning Lane rides that aren't included in Genie+, can you choose a time, or are you stuck with next available (the way you are with Genie+)?

It would suck to get up at 7 am and pay $100 or more for my family to ride FOP and then find out that we have to get there immediately to ride.

(3) What are the 10 rides that will cost extra and aren't included in Genie+? (And are we sure that there are exactly 10?)

I would guess: SDD (though one of the screen shots showed it included in Genie+), SDMT, Space, ROTR, Remy, FOP, MMRR, Test Track, Frozen, Everest.

(4) Will so many people buy Genie+ that Lightning Lane time slots will fill up quickly for rides like Peter Pan and Splash, making the whole thing a disaster? Or, alternatively, will Disney avoid that problem by allocating a ton of capacity to LL, thus making the standby lanes painfully long?

(5) How much will the extra LL passes that aren't included in Genie+ cost? The cost will be dynamic, so Disney won't announce them in advance. But approximately how much are we talking on a normal day, a crowded day, and an insanely crowded day?

(6) How much capacity will Disney allocate to LL for those rides that are not included in Genie+?

If the capacity is relatively low, the standby lines will be faster than they were in the old fastpass days. But if Disney prices these passes lower, and thus sells more of them, the standby lines will be longer (though perhaps still shorter than before, since people can only buy two of these a day, no matter how much they are willing to spend).
