Was Yacht Club...Now Wilderness Lodge

I am planning a trip in July of next year. It was originally planned for 4 days and 3 nights and we were staying at Yacht Club. The more I started looking the more I began to rethink my trip. For a little over $300 more, we could switch to Wilderness Lodge and add another day. Good decision, correct?

I stayed at WL about 10 years ago, so before all of the additions. It’s a beautiful resort, but my family didn’t care for it. The food court had very limited choices, the rooms were dark (I think they have been redone since) and our room was the furtherest from absolutely everything.
I check into the YC tomorrow and am very excited

Good call! SAB is cool but an extra day is better imho and WL is beautiful. Not as convenient for DHS and EP but a lot better for MK. (And if you get rained out of the pool you’d be kicking yourself for giving up that extra day of your trip for the better pool 😉)

We aren't even doing HS and I do love the idea of walking to Epcot through the IG, but I love the ability to add that extra day. We could add the extra day with staying at YC, but it is definitely cheaper switching to WL. Maybe if a good discount comes out we can switch back to the same price as WL. LOL

I could make an argument for each option - but ultimately there’s not really a wrong choice. If it were me, WL would probably win out with the extra day and all.

We were at YC in mid-July… and while I have a pretty high tolerance for WDW pool crowds (Poly is my favorite resort, after all)… SAB was somewhat not-so-fun crowded on a couple of our days, and that’s lingering in the back of my mind on the topic.

I was worried about that. Especially in July. I figured the middle of the day would be packed with families. And it is my dream to stay at the Poly. I'm waiting until the next time I go with my husband to stay there.

Yeah, it's a 50-50 for us too, with the extra day at Wilderness Lodge winning out.

We're not big fans of Stormalong Bay and neither of the food courts are particularly good at the Yacht or Beach Clubs. But both hotels are incredibly convenient to Epcot. DHS is not that far away either.

Stormalong Bay is nice but it gets incredibly crowded and all the bridges make it confusing to get around. The last few times we've done it, we go as soon as it opens to avoid the crowds:

As an experience, we greatly enjoy eating outside at the Wilderness Lodge's Geyser Point with a burger and a beer:

The Wilderness Lodge's main pool is lovely:

The boat to the Magic Kingdom is an interesting experience:

Wilderness Lodge was a One and Done for me. It felt isolated. I'm happier in the Epcot Resorts area, where I can walk to other hotels and 2 theme parks.

I really don’t think you can make a bad choice between the two. Both are in my top three resorts, Poly taking the crown. I personally wouldn’t hesitate taking the extra day. If your options were CBR instead of WL I’d say keep your existing reservation. What I’d truly do is watch 12 YouTube videos on each resort and modify my vacation 23 times. Really, neither choice is a mistake. Have a great time! Let us know your final decision!

We dislike the crowds at SAB but like access to EP so if we stay BC/YC we end up at the quiet pools. LOVE those quiet pools. Everyone is so busy at SAB the quiet pools basically ended up like some sort of semi-private pool on my trips to BC/YC.

Do you have preteens or teens? If so for sure YC. There's no comparison between the pools for kids old enough to go on slides. Walking to a park in the July heat is huge.

How much more is an extra night at YC? $400? $500? I.e., what is the differential between extra night at YC v. WL? If you can afford the difference I'd go with YC for sure with kids.

We love both resorts. Geyser Point and the boat to MK are both favorites. And we could spend all day at the WL leisure pool. I also love seeing the fireworks and Electric Water Pageant from the shore or the room. And we find the WL resort relaxing. :)

No kiddos this trip. No husbands either. LOL. It is a girls-only trip for me and a friend. The price difference is not significant but it is cheaper to stay at WL. If we stay at YC and add a day, the trip increases by $622.12. If we switch to WL and add a day, the price increases by $309.36. So, because we are splitting the cost in half (benefit of going with a friend and not my husband. I only have to pay for half of the trip) the cost for each of us either goes up by $311.06 or $154.68.

I'd pick WL straight up,day extra or not.Mk is our fav park and with the boat,we can go back and forth as many times as we like,in minutes.the other parks aren't that far away a drive either.Fireworks,Electric Pageant, great pool area. When staying on-site,a pool is not a deciding factor for us ,as we're there for the parks ,first and foremost

As an adults-only trip, there is something to be said for being within easy walking distance of the World Showcase and drinking around the world.

But this is if you have hopper tickets (allowing you to hop over to Epcot in the evening) and enjoy adult beverages.
