Magic bands no longer free?

We haven’t been to Disney in a couple years. We are hoping to book for Christmas 2022. In my search I am seeing that magic bands are no longer free with the vacation package, am I right? If so, how much are the cheapest ones? Thanks

The plain colored magic bands recently increased to $10 from $5. They are $20 in the park and higher for designed.

They’re still cheap. Nothing that should prohibit you from getting one when you consider the total amount of the trip lol. $5 - $30 pretty much. The ones they used to give for free are $5 or so. Then they go up from there.
It’s a must get for us, I can’t imagine another way.

It appears as @Heather07438 mentioned that the least expensive band is now $10. I will say when I looked right now I couldn't find any of the old red, green, blue, etc. colours, only pastel/varied versions and all were$10. I'm not sure there are $5 bands any longer.

Hmm, interesting. Could’ve sworn when we placed the order for ours a couple weeks ago they had the plain ones…Maybe they updated

The price just went up a few weeks ago -- you probably ordered yours just in time. A friend of mine was looking at them and couldn't decide what color $5 MB to get for herself so she decided to sleep on it. When she went to place her order the next morning all of the $5 bands were $10. That indecision cost her $20 since she was ordering bands for a family of 4. She wasn't happy.

Haha that stinks. I ordered a couple pricey ones anyway so I’m pretty sure I spent $25 each lol

Happened to us too because my son procrastinated. I got the light blue but it's more like a purple.

Yes. Just verify they are still marked as "Active" under MagicBands & Cards in MDE.

If they are 3 or more years old, they probably won't work for automatic linking of ride photos. All functions where you need to touch the MagicBand to a reader will work indefinitely.

You won’t really need to use MB if you don’t mind using your phone. You can just scan your phone without fully opening.

The old ones will work for any touch points. The touch point is power source here where it’s just reading the unique code of the MB.
Anything that requires reading from a distance, like ride photos, needs a working MB battery. The batteries last at least 2 years, probably up to 3, and a small chance beyond that.

No… you have to select them. You won’t get charged unless you select one and finalize the choice in MDE. And you have to enter a payment method, like a credit card too. It would be pretty hard to get one by mistake.

I just looked at the Disney Store online, and -- as of today -- they are offering only the fancier bands that're $30-35-ish. No inexpensive solid colors at all.

I wonder if I happened to look on a bad day?

I never looked before because they were always free, but just wondering if there is a wider selection of MagicBands onsite that what is currently being offered online both at ShopDisney (which has not many at all) and in the preorder section of the Disney World website. I have a tough time wrapping my head around the fact that I need to pay for these now, but with the fact that they'd last for a while, I'm succumbing to being okay about it! Ha! But I'd like one I really want and I'm not sure any of these are really the options that I want. Does D-Tech at Disney Springs still offer the opportunity to create your own and/or have more options?

I booked a room this week; the Hawaiian print stitch one was offered ~$15, stated it was normally ~$25. There were about 44 choices.

I had a 3 yo band still broadcast my info to the camera system recently. Perhaps batteries have a pretty good life. If you all ride together, perhaps make sure one person has a new MB To get ride photos.
