Heard of another shut down happening

My state will be, but my county will not. We are supposed to be in the bottom most tier, but a lot is still open. Basically do what you can to keep your business afloat. If a large lockdown is put in place, things will stay open. Too many small businesses to lockdown again.

Our county will be. Our State will be. We’ve been on a relaxed “freeze”shutdown that is suppose to expire on Wednesday. Governor rolled out red, yellow, and green tiers after the mandated freeze. Red relaxes the dining from currently not allowed at all/takeout only, to 50 people max outside only. This was before the uptick in cases too. So it’s possible the current “freeze” will continue for certain counties, Governor has said so.

Hard to say what will happen on a National level. I would expect restrictions on international and domestic air travel. Mandatory quarantines before/after travel. Mandatory negative test before travel. Hopefully a 2nd stimulus to help out.

I doubt this will happen, instead it will be left up to the states in enact and enforce. Even then there’s too much inconsistency, as our governor has left decisions to be made by county mayors rather than mandate it himself.

As another poster said, the President-Elect has never said this but someone on his task force said that it would be something that could get it under control (not something they would do). The Federal Government cannot mandate a shutdown across the states. I don't believe they have the power to do such things. As it always has been, it will be up to the governors of each state. And you can see how well that worked.

He said it during his campaign in his commercials. (sorry, went a bit political. not an opinion just stating a fact).

I am not in favor of total shutdowns but with the way people are acting in my city, I think it should happen. When I went out to the grocery store yesterday, the traffic was ridiculous. All those people cannot be going to the grocery store or medical appointments. Everyone is just carrying on their lives like there is no pandemic.

Our governor closed indoor dining for a few weeks. Some businesses are refusing to close. And people are driving hours to patronize them. It’s crazy.

I have heard of this happening where people live close to another state. If there state has a curfew or has stopped indoor dining, they just drive to another state. People will find a way around the rules. Always have. I wonder if this is why a country-wide shutdown would be a possibility. I don't think it would happen, but maybe they are talking about it.

Hopefully this isn’t considered political. He hasn’t said that. Somebody on his Covid task force said it. Another one has said that won’t happen.

I don’t think it will happen. It will be left up to each state. It possible we see a mask mandate, but I’m not even sure how enforceable that will be.

That's correct. Biden didn't say it, but someone on his coronavirus task force advisory board did. Dr. Michael Osterholm is on that advisory board and wrote an oped with Neel Kashkari, president of Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. Those who followed the Financial Crisis/Great Recession may remember Kashkari as the man who headed up the TARP program back then. They wrote this op-ed back in early August. Like many other public health experts, Dr Osterholm has been shouting from the rooftops for a national plan of attack. But, we're not going to get that. At best, we'll see state/regional restrictions put in place if hospitals are over-run. In some areas, we may not see anything at all. At any rate, here's the op-ed.

I'm in favor of it in locations that need it due to hospital/ICU capacity being overwhelmed. I'm not in favor of it in the way some states have remained locked down as cases remained low.

Personally, I would settle for national guidelines and a cohesive national strategy regarding when/how states should shut down.

Yes to the task force mentioning it as a possibility. I think more in regards to a national strategy where if a set number of criteria are met, then certain levels of shut down occur, which, IMO, is how things should have been done all along once we knew what was going on. No, the federal government can't make states do it, but the federal government has many sticks and carrots they can use to make states decide it's in their best interest. Consider the speed limit or drinking age.
