Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I wish state officials would have visited theme parks sooner, but better late than never, I suppose if it can help theme park's case this week! Them traveling to Florida concerns me some though, since they've been scaling up capacity, and it's been getting seemingly busier at WDW. Fingers crossed that goes well too, and shows the protocols they have in place are safe and working. Hopefully, we aren't kept waiting too long to hear how those visits went (and the status of guidelines), but I'd have to think it's going to be at least a week more sadly.

So even with this I think our Thanksgiving trip is toast, no way they are open by then. May need to push back to christmas if it's an option

At least there is positive movement. I take visiting WDW as a very encouraging sign.

My $.02. We are still weeks away, though. Best case, they evaluate this week. It will still take a couple of weeks to draft and finalize protocols after they get back.

Maybe by the craziest chance they could open by Thanksgiving week. They may already be virtually training the CM's about safety and have been doing everything possible within the parks themselves so when they get guidelines they will hopefully just be needing to dot a few I's and cross a few t's to reopen. I'm really surprised and glad that they are sending out people this week to the parks. Kinda curious that just last week we were told "someone" is in "no hurry" to get the ball rolling on the guideline thing. Maybe there has been more behind the scenes pressure than we know. Have a great day! OPEN, OPEN, OPEN!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I am completely devastated (probably too strong of a word, but still...) at the Frozen show being cancelled. That was our favorite thing to do in California Adventure. We would go to the performance multiple times per trip. What a loss.

Edited to add: I think I'm most angry that it didn't have to come to this. Had this got taken seriously in the first place, we wouldn't be in the mess we as a country are in right now. People would still have their jobs, their livelihoods. I was staying pretty upbeat about everything, but this news along with news that some of our local business are being forced to close has just got me so down. I don't know when things will ever recover.
I wonder how this will work, as all the sets & costumes etc. will go into storage. It doesn't mean the shows cannot be brought back. :)

When Disneyland reopens, chances are small that it will have any shows the first few months. Even with the size of the Hyperion theater, if the park would reopen now, it would probably only be able to fill a 1/3 of the seats. Theaters all over the world are closed. Broadway, West End... it's the same everywhere. Here in the Netherlands only 2 big musical theater productions are back, with very limited audiences. The other shows are on hold till the world allows a lot of people in a small space again.

I can see it make sense now to announce the closure, to make sure people know what to expect when the park does reopen, and maybe 6 months from now we will get the announcement they will bring them back. Saying the show is closed instead of on hold, gives Disney probably the opportunity to let go of the actors instead of keeping them on the payroll.

Disneyland Paris tried to bring back 2 shows end of August, one show only played 2-3 weeks, the other one never reopened, as a cast member got Corona and they had to stop the rehearsals. They announced both are cancelled for now, but as they were popular I am positive we will see them again in the future.

All of my thoughts exactly. If the intent is 25% capacity to start, they should have visited a month ago. I literally said to my computer as he said that, "Where have you been? It's October already! Parks opened in July!" Hopefully they'll drop by on a weekday and not a Saturday, and hopefully they'll spend more than a day there and really get a feel for what is going on.

Can I just say KUDOS to folks like us for keeping the pressure on. I tuned in today really expecting nothing and Newsom took SEVERAL questions related to parks. Best news we've had so far. That would have never happened if we hadn't kept making a stink about it.
What were the other questions/answers related to theme parks?

I really hope he does visit WDW on a weekday- some of the reports I’ve been seeing people are talking about how noticeably more crowded it is especially in HS. If the visit is very ‘in and out’ they can easily get a slanted view. (Like entering HS at 10AM when everyone is packed together trying to get a boarding group...)

They should have done these visits long ago but better late than never! I’m still not hopeful they’ll get the green flag too soon.. I really think he wants to drag this out to get past the busier holiday season. 😣 In his eyes, the longer he stalls then reopening could be in January which is one of the (typically) quieter times of the year for tourists to visit..

That's what i was thinking, but that's the dead of winter, meaning peak flu season...

Holiday crowds will easily be mitigated by park reservations, shortened hours, and no fireworks/entertainment. Hopefully they tell him that if that is what he worries about.

I really wonder if they’ll be able to get rid of the ‘locals only’ part of the guidelines. That seemed to be a big concern of his- he’s mentioned it and so has Dr. Gally. But at this point, I think they should take whatever they’re given and push for more later.

Same. I think they should push to be open in the restricted tiers with "locals only", then as the counties move to less-restrictive, slowly phase out that rule.

I think they should've started visiting sooner too. However it was clear that when they said "we are having convos with theme parks", that they clearly weren't. So I'm crossing my fingers something good comes out of this, as they are actually talking to theme parks now.

So, devil's advocate point of view again 🙂

Months and months without guidelines or the appearance of progress. Bob Iger quits the panel and a week and a half later there seems to be movement and at least more discussion that makes it out to the public. Coincidence?

I don't understand why they didn't just accept what they were going to be given last month and do just that.
