Tipping during covid?

What's going to be a reasonable tip for mousekeeping in August at Pop? We are usually generous but I know they are limiting service and only coming every other day. I want to acknowledge the risks they're taking for us to stay safe. What are you planning to do?

I am looking forward to what people have to say on this thread. Thank you for the question.

Hmmmm ... I am currently planned to return in September , unless I finally decide to cancel , and I was planning on leaving my usual ‘per night‘ Amount before I headed out for the day‘s activities, even though service is every other day. I am thinking that nets out to twice my regular amount, per servicing, since the housekeeping would be at a frequency of every other day.

Good question. My current plan is to leave my usual tip. I'm also wondering if there is any awkwardness in hand delivered tips for bell services and such.
I actually came to the DIS this evening to see if I could find information about this. I want to be able to tip bell services and housekeeping, but I don't know if they want cash? How is everyone tipping?

Had the exact same question. I havent touched cash since March. Had the realization yesterday that I'll have to get some cash in hand for tipping and then thought about how gross that is and I wish I could add an electronic tip.

Personally I've been overtipping with EVERYTHING right now. I think my bare minimum right now for takeout/delivery is 30% so I'd probably take whatever I normally tip for housekeeping and double it. But this is totally one of those "you do you" scenarios.
Us too. I guess I'm just wondering what other people do so I can make sure I'm not way out of the norm (too low).

Well for what it is worth, we usually leave $5 a day. We are two adults, 1 room, no kids, minimal mess.
That's what we usually do too, unless my kids make a bigger mess, but they're pretty good about being tidy. So are you going to do $10 during covid then? I was thinking $10-20, but we also have 2 rooms for the 6 of us so it's going to add up pretty quickly.

That's our norm too, based on daily housekeeping. I do feel conflicted on this. Lately, we have been wayyyy overtipping for things like restaurant takeout on the assumption that the overall tips are probably lower due to lack of in-restaurant eating. But for our Disney trip, we are staying DVC for the first time (we are not members, just limited to that because the non-DVC side of our resort won't be open), and my understanding is that DVC is pretty much always at or near full occupancy. If that is the case, the housekeeping should be getting closer to normal aggregate tips, and they'd probably be getting more from us as opposed to a points guest because points guests have cleaning every four days, and we would have it every other day. I really don't know.

Honestly....I have no idea. My next scheduled hotel stay (at Universal) isn't until October, and frankly I'll just hope to remember to get some 5's from the bank before we go! It's nothing I particularly stress over or put a lot of thought into... But, I guess if I was going now and I had 2 rooms, each with 3 folks in it with daily service I'd probably leave a $10 in each room each day.

says who? It most certainly is customary to tip the person cleaning up after you.
Disney has (had) a brochure with FAQ given to guests checking in.
Tipped positions were listed, including customary tips for good service. Listed were valets bellhops waiters bartenders. Housekeeping was not listed. Emoyees working in a "tipped" position are generally paid less, sometimes less then minimum wage. Disney doesnt classify housekeeping as a tipped position.
Disney is the exception. Industry standard considers housekeeping a tipped position

The Union at Disney has negotiated a higher rate for housekeepers as well as other cash benefits so Disney and the Union have decided that Housekeeping is non-tipped position. The only tipped positions at WDW are Bell Services, Food and Beverage servers and Valet parkers.

I went this weekend to the resorts I dropped 10$ to the porter and 10 to housekeeping for DVC (all the cash I had) as far as the 2 restaurants we went to I just doubled the tables in wonderland tip and said welcome back. Back to take out only for me I still have mixed feelings on dinning out in general.
