Resort Change by Disney

I just read on a Disney group that someone reported their Coronado reservation was just cancelled and they were moved to French Quarter. They didn’t mention dates, but I am assuming it is part of the NBA plans for this summer. Hopefully Disney moved them to a resort they are planning on opening by then. Hopefully some moderates will be opening!
Sorry, false hope after all. The person just posted the dates and they were cancelled due to the resort still being closed and their rebook date for French Quarter isn’t until early next year. Bummer!

No surprise on the resort being closed BUT the second part is interesting. French Quarter not open to book until 2021 ... now is that just because they aren't booking any reservations until the end of the year "just because" they have so much on their plate and it will open up sooner than that? I can't imagine them staying closed that long.

For at least this part, I believe the logic is that it would be overall less costly to operate certain deluxe resorts due to the way that they are attached to DVC resorts that will be already in a level of operation.

This is very important to think about in addition that these resorts are smaller in occupancy, sometimes need less transportation options, provide table service dining and yes they are making economic decisions on who they think will still be going to Disney in this economic climate.

If I’m disney I’m offering to move people if others are not going to fill my rooms I’d rather make $180 on a $350 room then $0

I don't think Disney will have any problem filling those rooms at the higher price point.
- Disney already has one of the highest occupancy rates of any hotels, so there is probably a good portion of them already booked on existing reservations.
- There will be a Disney hotel "shortage" and with the park reservation system those rooms just became much more valuable.
- Plenty of folks can afford those rooms and are ready to leave their homes and go somewhere.
- The parks will be operating at a lower capacity making the resort a very attractive trip for many.

I think it underestimation to think any room will be empty if they reduce their overall room numbers.

We have a 8 night CSR reservation for the first week of August. Just got off the phone with a cast member, who passed me to two other cast members in a search for information and they had nothing for me. Just keeping waiting...

All three cast members however were very nice, considering what I imagine they've been going through the past few weeks I was impressed with how pleasant everyone still sounded lol

Phone cast members only have in front of them what is happening today. It's why so many come here for help. If they do know other info from their own knowledge they aren't supposed to share anything other than their scripts in front of them. I wouldn't want their job.

I agree it is less costly, but that is the point. They are making their decision based on cost and not the pandemic. The pandemic is causing a reduction in capacity, but not determining which hotels are impacted. . There is no reason that a value hotel cannot be opened if they can open a deluxe. Even if they chose to only open the deluxe hotel. they could also easily choose to go with a lottery system for all existing reservations regardless of resort. If a reservation is selected from the value resort, they simply get upgraded. They won't do this because they want the revenue from the higher priced reservations. Choosing to honor the more expensive reservation while choosing to not honor the cheaper reservation when they had to reduce capacity is just that, a choice.

I agree that it is a stretch to go from there to price gauging, especially since Disney is not raising their prices. They are also suffering their own economic loss from the pandemic even during the time they are reopen. To minimize that loss, I think you can argue they have done it in a way that unfairly penalizes cheaper reservations at the expense of more expensive ones.

We don't know what they are doing for sure as it is fluid and am sure they weigh their options every morning but ....

If they opened POP/AOA that would be the equivalent of opening ALL the deluxes. From an operational point of view that doesn't make sense when they HAVE to open the DVC. Deluxe will be easier to sell and operate. There is a reason; finances and operating under COVID standards. We have to remember they are working numbers in conjuction with greatly reduced park capacity. They have to balance hotel guest with park guest numbers.

Lottery ~ talk about a PR nightmare, I can't imagine the complaints from that. The choice they make, whatever it is, will be to get as many guests in rooms as they can under the COVID requirements and to stay in the black at those hotels. They are not penalizing anyone, they are making hard decisions so they open successfully.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thinking out loud math ...
If only deluxe open initially that is about 5400 rooms ... in comparison POP/AOA alone have about 4900 rooms. When you add DVC that another @4800 rooms/villas. The Disney parks are expected to open at 50% capacity tops. You can't even use their normal capacity because when you close all those big shows, you have to reduce your capacity. Shows provide big number adjusters. Normal times Disney hotels only provide around 35% of the guests in the parks. If we take the normal @capacity of 300-320,000 minus the closed shows, attractions and reduced dining capacity ... ballpark it now at 260,000 ... then cut that number in 50% you have top of 130,000. Disney average is 35% of the guests = 45,500 The deluxe/dvc calculate around 41,000. The numbers work for the initial opening of the parks to support only opening Deluxe/DVC.
(numbers are estimates based on posted numbers)
WILL THAT HAPPEN? 🤷‍♀️ We won't know until it is actually July 11th or later because nothing is official at Disney, not even if they say so (they often go back) until it is actual done and finished and happening. Our experiences are a very small percentage of Disney guests.
Fingers crossed they find a way to be more fully open, maybe why they waited until July was in hopes the state allows increased capacity at the parks by then. Maybe why they are doing this slowly and weekly and holding back on many July reservations.
OK, I am one of the people who fell into the category to call, had a Yacht Club reservation beginning on June 21st for a woods/garden view room.
Just got off the phone, and here is what happened.
First, I was allowed to change my reservation since we were in the June 21st window. I could not book a regular resort room, only DVC at this time. That could change, and if it does, I will likely call back.
Second, asked for military rate. My room at YC was booked under military discount. She tried several codes and I was placed on hold for several minutes to see if she could locate any military discounts. As of right now, none. Of course, subject to change and I will have to call back.
Third, looked at Epcot DVC's as that was where we want to stay. Beach Club had a 1 bedroom Villa but my price jumped up over $500 more. (obviously, they aren't allowing room changes with same price) Same with Boardwalk 1 bedroom villa. However, I saved roughly $100 from my YC reservation by booking a Boardwalk deluxe studio standard view. That works for us, and it is booked.
We are cool with it. No doubt, I would prefer regular resort room so I will be watching for any updates on resort openings. But our reservation was easily changed and pretty seamless.
I did double check, as a room only rate it is still the 5 days prior to check in to cancel without penalty. (plenty of time to cancel if we change our minds with the current state of affairs with Covid)
Hope this helped.
I just want to add that typically, BWV Standard, when booked through Disney is usually the garden/pool view,,,why it’s defined as that, I don’t know...
Do you know what they would do with someone staying at a value, for example? Would they move them but not charge for the upgrade? Or are they just out of luck.
They are currently allowing June guests to rebook a trip To later in the year if they want to at this time. Since all that is open as of today, the choices are limited to DVC and Ft. Wilderness.
So, the current rate for the new trip will apply. As mentioned, once other resorts open up, people would still be able to call and adjust.
But for now, anyone staying prior to even DVC opening can book a new trip right now.
Well, not anyone. If you have AP attached to a room reservation in that period you are excluded from rebooking. And I still don't know why. Hopefully when/if Disney responds to my Guest Services email about it we might know why.
Just got this email about my June 24-27 free dining recovery package at ASMo. Looks like they’re not going to move people with closed resorts to open ones unless you choose to pay.
Scott Gustin posted an informative resort thread on twitter...
I saw that but who is Scott Gusin?
Just tweeting theme park info.
What he posted was screenshots of what Disney has on website now.
You can see it direct here.
https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/experience-updates/resorts/
If you are booked, I would read.
This goes into more detail on housekeeping and all the services that will NOT be available.
That you MUST have park reservation to get in, nothing else overrides that.
Yup, I know, obviously his source. I saw his summary before I went to the disney website is all I meant 🤷🏻‍♀️
No negative intended ... :goodvibes
.... I've just found some people often don't like to go to twitter or click sources they don't know as the PP asked.
I was answering the PP question to yours.
This just got those folks direct to the information who prefer it that way.
Do they say the dates you can rebook for?
Obviously these dates are pre-park opening but I’m thinking we may see same offer later as well. Who really knows?!?
True but at lest there not saying we are asking people to pay extra also the part about not having a choice makes since, I have a feeling that a lot of value guest will be put a SS it’s massive and is often the easiest for Disney to use for cash rooms
I am glad you were able to still get a room for now! Did you have to wait to receive an email from Disney that your were being cancelled or needed to call to modify before you could call and get assistance to modify your dates and room?
No, I just called when I read on here about the June 21st date and saw on DFB Guide on Youtube they were allowing changes to reservations on or before June 21st.
Do you know what they would do with someone staying at a value, for example? Would they move them but not charge for the upgrade? Or are they just out of luck.
My best guess (I am in no way 100% sure of this) is that you would have to pay the difference. I would have had to pay an increase if I went with a 1 bedroom villa.
Disney has already said they will have mask free zones. Just don't know what they will look like yet.
YAY!! Hooray!! :cool1: I haven't read that yet, but it does make a lot of sense. Thanks!
Ah! We don’t go until October, so we will miss seeing you. You’ll love the Boardwalk if you stay there.
I recall hearing or reading somewhere that Disney would have them scattered around the park similar to how the old smoking areas were. Maybe not the exact same locations, but that they definitely anticipated having areas where you can remove your mask until you feel that you can resume wearing it.
We have stayed at BWI many, many times. It is actually our preferred hotel. I had read BC DVC was slightly better than BW DVC (who knows how accurate that is) so I initially thought I would stay there. And contrary to others, the Clown Pool doesn't bother us. I personally like the Keister Coaster better than slide at Stormalong Bay.
Love that they are having mask free areas. I think people will need that in the heat/humidity.
I just want to add that typically, BWV Standard, when booked through Disney is usually the garden/pool view,,,why it’s defined as that, I don’t know...
SWEET!!! :thumbsup2 I typically will spend the tiny extra (usually equates to $30 more per visit) to get a garden view. My dd loves mornings on the balcony while I am still getting ready and the parking lot view just doesn't have the same relaxing atmosphere.
