JUNE W.I.S.H. Challenge - Looking Ahead

This has been a challenging, life altering week, and it has flown by. I feel like it should still be Tuesday and here we are on the cusp of another weekend.

I have my little overnight bag packed and ready to go, I'll probably sign off from work around 12:30p and catch the 1:30 ferry... that'll put me in Long Beach just after 5pm and dinner is at 6:15pm. This will be the first time eating out since early March. The hotel and restaurant have all the right processes in place: for the dinner reservation we are to stay in our room until we get a text so that there aren't people congregating at the check in stand. Really looking forward to eating food cooked by someone else! Both my Sister and I have been self isolating, so there's minimal risk in sharing the room, but I will probably wear a mast most of the time. Other than walking on the beach I want to drive around the area and look at things... different things than what I see every day.

Hope everyone has a relaxing weekend.

Sounds like a great trip!

We’re enjoying the beautiful weather here. Headed out for a walk on the beach soon.

The opposite here - grey and rainy. But I guess the plants need a little drink.

I've already been to the grocery store, though, and the only other things I need to get done today are to help DS with math, and make the fish I bought for dinner. So other than that, I think I'll listen to the weather and take it easy.

YES! I finished my 5k about thirty minutes ago and I swear my soul left my body. I also accidentally just typed "sweat" instead of "swear" and that's about right. Welcome to NC, where we went from feel good warmth to summer in one day. I ended up walking most of it but I'm ok with that- no PR's but I did it (and this may be the first time I've completed two 5ks in a week, so I'll take that too).
I did it today! And I didn't even want to get out of bed this morning. But I forced myself to get up and go running. When I started, I was hoping to just not give up during the first mile and start walking. It was slow running, but I ran the whole 5k! A Disney half marathon is on my bucket list and I keep thinking that I probably should have done it by now. I'm not getting any younger. So I've set the goal for my 45th birthday. The next decision will be which one to do and who wants to do it with me. I’m between the 2022 Disney Princess Half Marathon and the 2021 EPCOT Wine & Dine Half Marathon.

Wow! That’s impressive!

We have half a dozen different little figurines of Figment from our daughters first trip-she was five years old. When her little legs got tired or she was getting too hot we would find a gift shop and let her pick out something for a dollar (!) and she always chose a Figment. We have artist Figment, Figment in a tuxedo,
patriotic Figment and several others. She played with them for a long time and then one day I packed them away and forgot about them. Fast forward 25 years and my grandson is equally in love with Figment on his first trip at the age of three. When we got home I got them out for him and he played with them in our bathtub for years-sadly, I think I will be packing them away again one day soon. But I will give them to my daughter so she can set them aside to entertain her grandchildren!

I rewarded myself with a new pair of running sneakers. Hoping that keeps me motivated too ;)

Wow - way to go and those new shoes are well deserved :cheer2:

Hey all it's been a busy few days. Its Saturday afternoon for me already - I spent the morning doing some cleaning - had to stop though as my shoulders, neck and upper back were hurting - my muscular issue is stirred up at the moment from increasing walking! Spoke with my PT about it yesterday she said it it so be expected when adding something new for my body - it is also probably from the pressure of my bra and the weight of my chest while walking. On Thursday, while walking and it started hurting I ended up with a pain in my head from the muscle tension ugh - I have taken a rest from walking today but will get back to it tomorrow.

Last night watching TV with DD I had my first true chocolate indulgence in a week - I had a freddo frog - do you have then in the US? it was just a small fun sized one - and DD was laughing at me so much as I took teeny tiny nibbles to make it last longer and savor the taste :rotfl: Here is- something shocking - even in this short time of cutting soft drink the couple that I have had - had tasted way sweeter than I would normally notice and they are the sugar free version! I don't think I have had one at all for 2 days now and the last few I had I don't think I even finished them. I am on the couch now and can feel that habit of eating tugging at me - but I am staying strong. I am going to make a warm drink and put some chicken legs in the oven to cok. Breaking this treat eating habit is not easy - but I have done really well all week. Tomorrow is official weigh-in/measurement day for the program I signed up to. But since Friday 29th as of this morning I am down 1.4kg or 3.08 pounds. Yeah me.

That’s awesome!!! :cool1:

Social Saturday!

What is one of your favorite souvenirs from a trip to Disney World? It can be something you bought for yourself or someone else. :)
The first thing that popped into my head was my daughters charm bracelet. We got it and two charms in our first trip. Then we were starting adding a new charm each trip....until she lost it. I think I was more sad than she was. I also enjoyed using our extra snack credits to stock up on Mickey Rice Krispies Treats to give to our family and friends back home. I guess my favorite souvenir though is my pair of ears. I started wearing them to great the kids ear morning in school :)

I think my absolute favorites are Christmas ornaments. Second place is a toss up between ears and mugs. I have a bunch of ears hanging on the wall of my room, so it's nice to always see them, and I love using my various Disney mugs for morning coffee, and remembering the trips when I got them.

Hmm... favorite souvenir? That's a tough one! I like all our trading pins... but that's kind of weird since if I had the chance, I'd be back in Florida trading them away again... H has a collection of little-lego-things that he gathered on our unplanned trip to Disneyland (got stranded in CA during the east-coast snowmageddon all those years ago.) I don't love his lego clutter, but seeing those always reminds me of a great time with the kids and the serendipity of it all...

But my *FAVORITE* souvenirs are the ones I don't have yet! Because looking forward is always the best part for me :) I am poking around with the possibility of going to Orlando at Christmas time, since my parents are doing the snowbird thing again this winter. Even if the parks aren't fully up-and-running, we could fill a few days shopping and exploring and high tea at the Floridian. Many years ago I saw them assembling that gingerbread cottage, and some day I want to see it for real! Oof. Now I want gingerbread. :(

Ok, catching up... Woohoos and thankfuls...
-I am thankful that we were able to get a new roof done last month, because we had some wicked storms come through lately, and woohoo, the new one isn't leaky like the old one was starting to be!

-Woohoo for having some quiet this morning so I can catch up here, and thankful that very soon we will be done with the online schooling nonsense and I can let them sleep in EVERY morning if they want!

-Thankful to try some new food yesterday, because staying home so much is wearing on me and ANYTHING different is a good thing... I made a package of instant couscous to go with our chicken souvlaki last night. IT. WAS. AWFUL!!!!! :rotfl::rotfl2: The flavor was like chicken ramen, but the texture was like dry grits! I'm giving it to the chickens later for a snack! *BUT* it was something different, and I am thankful that we don't have to "eat it or starve." And of course, always thankful for the chickens... they are always good for a chuckle.

-Thankful for my kindle (or nook or whatever the heck it is) because the bookstores here remain closed, and I have been reading a lot this week (it's been too stormy and humid to do much else) Normally I prefer actual paper books because I can either keep them or pass them on... electrons just aren't satisfying that way... but it gives me something to do while I'm ignoring all the things I *SHOULD* be doing! :poop:

Sorry I have been rather MIA. The antibiotic I'm on for my old root canal infection is really messing with my stomach, nausea and diarrhea. After two days, I'm still in pain, completely relying on 2 Advil liquigels every 6 hours. Hopefully I will feel better sooner than later.

Favorite souvenir: When DD was little, Pal Mickey was so much fun to have in the parks. That souvenir probably gave us the most joy.

Oh no! I hope you feel better soon!
