Biggest debate and conversation?

Oh my god...

did anyone mention the security checks in the hotels? Those arguments went on for months...I bet it's still happening! It seemed like a lot of people just sit around in their rooms naked all day, the way they kept saying security would be sorry if they walked in on them!
:D

Oh wow! I forgot about that debate.

From reading the DISboards one would think security was walking in rooms at all hours - just opening the doors and walking in. Even if the latch was closed they had a device that could open it and they would just walk in. Some people posting were legitimately scared.

Well, one of the biggest debates going on right now (besides masks 🤣) is how people think Disney is handling this situation, particularly around communication. I know the DIS team has talked about masks, handling of ABD and DVC. However, I noticed that since the initial prediction of opening in June didn't pan out, it's been a little quiet. I'd like to hear Pete's opinion in particular regarding the rolling cancellations and guest recovery efforts. But maybe that's just me!

Like mentioned, as someone new, we had a trip planned for April. I cancelled before they (Disney) did, only a couple days ahead and I got a full refund (room, tickets and dining plan) payments made from 3 different bank accounts Within 48 hours. Couldn’t be mad about that. However, if I had a trip planned and was willing to go and only getting 3 weeks notice-and really from what it seems like-not even a “notice” in some cases, trips just being cancelled and disappearing. Especially after June 1st-when they initially opened reservations back up and offered a promo I can see how ppl would be upset.

Biggest discussion I have seen is just related to the "value" of a Disney trip - so a few angles:
- price increases in general, and then the date based pricing
- reduction of hours
- the rise of the hard ticket event, so having to pay "more" for similar experience
- the amount of planning that goes into a trip now - does it take away the fun/add stress

Somewhat relate would be FP+ vs FP- (paper FP)
The last time I was at WDW they still had paper fast passes

There was a huge debate here on the boards when Disney World allowed dogs in some resorts. Lots of anger, hurt feelings and "We will never stay on site again." posts.
There there was a long debate when Disney World started charging for parking. Lots of anger, hurt feelings and "We will never stay on site again." posts.

Of course the current issues is much more complex because we are dealing with health and safety. We still get lots of anger and hurt feelings.
Before covid became serious here in the US I looked into driving instead of flying in for our April trip and was surprised that they charged for parking, especially considering the amount of money being spent already. But when looking at airfare prices (before they plummeted), even including paying for rental car, it didn’t effect the bottom line-for us-it was still cheaper. Obviously they knew that’d be the response haha (in some cases) so....cha Ching it goes

In no particular order:
3) The departure of JeniLynn Knopp
2) The departure of Charles Boda
1) The departure of Oliver Green

The last one caused the most uproar/discussion at the time. He’d only been a producer for about a year but felt like he’d been there much longer, mentioned at the big live show that he intended to be there for good... then just vanished. Eventually replaced here by Fiasco I guess. Resurfaced a few months later on the YouTubez. Has gone into hibernation for now, hope he returns and that he’s doing well.

Smoking. Don't know how it became when it was outlawed all together, since I did't go then, but I know when it was "smoking spots" I saw many arguments, death stares, and shouting matches take place, when the rules were flouted. I even used to get upset, watching others just break out a ciggie when and wherever, because I TRIED to follow the rules, despite he fact they kept MOVING where the smoking spots were located - since I still smoked when this changed (I quit smoking and drinking 11 years ago the end of June) I TRIED to follow the rules, but it was HARD sometimes, and I used to call it "the Smoking Spot Scavenger Hunt". I distinctly remember them moving the SAME spot THREE TIMES during a week or a bit longer trip I was on in MGM. When I spent 1/2 an hour trying to find it, with several CM's telling me where it was SUPPOSED to be, I ducked into a quiet/somewhat secluded area near One Man's Dream (where the spot had been, just a few days earlier, and I had been sent while looking by SEVERAL CM's). But it's me. So guess what? BUSTED by a CM. :o
The smoking situation, with the designated areas moving around would definitely suck especially when you are actually trying to follow the rules

Me too! My last trip was Nov. '12. Can't believe it's been that long. And that's from going annually, sometimes twice a year, for almost 20 years before that. :(
