Sad about Missing out on Disney

Feeling bummed to realize my 4 year old (5 in December) may not be back at WDW for several years because of covid-19 between the health and economic fall out. Anyone else feeling the same way?

I don't have children yet, but I totally hear you. My wife and I were taking my sister-in-law this year for her first WDW trip (and first vacation in like 10 years!) and I really hyped it up and planned everything perfectly. Of course it all fell apart and though I have a November rebooked trip, I am not sure we will actually go. In that case, my sister-in-law will likely never go to WDW at least not for years and we will not either as we plan on starting a family so it will be at least a couple of years until we can make that trip again.

Fingers crossed November will still work for your family!

No. I have faith they will have a vaccine in less than a year. And if needed I can always take a budget trip. While it is not my ideal, I would have no problem staying off site, and cutting back on table service and souvenirs if need be.

I'm sad too but my kids favorite memories are more about feelings than the place and you can make magic anywhere by making an enormous big deal about an indoor picnic & Disney movie night. We used to do flashlight tag in the dark where dad would hide and we would try to find him with the flashlights, can Disney it up with images in the flashlights. You could even go out each night and look at the stars and say it's Tinkerbelle's sisters. Honestly, when kids are little its all about the fuss and excitement of the caregiver & this is what they will remember

Great advice!

I live in Canada and worry travel to the US won’t be as easy or inexpensive eas it has been in the past, for a few years. Will have to wait and see what happens with it.

It just seems that everything going on is just adding to the list of reasons why I am starting to think that my family will not get back to Disney while at least one child is under 18 (currently 15 and 12).

We went compliments of my parents in January 2010 which happened to fall over now 15 year old's 5th Birthday. Based on our debt pay off time line and saving for a trip DH and I figured we could have the funds to go again in October 2012 or possibly October 2013 in time for now 12 year old's 5th or at the very latest 6th birthday. This with paying $20 a month towards our younger child's speech therapy due to having a 0-3 program worker who insisted that the families were required to pay at least some of the costs due to state budget costs. (come to find out the budget cuts the agencies were asked to make were in things like if a child is determined to need say swim lessons for exercise as determined by the child's medical team going with the place that charges $25-$30 per lessson and not the place that charges $75-$80 provided both are able to meet the needs of the child)

September 2010 time for annual review of the 0-3 plan which included looking at budget issues. Worker insisted that we can pay more than we were paying using I know what people make where your DH works (hello he did not have enough hours to be making full scale yet) and besides you could afford a trip to Disney (we told you several times along with my mom told you at a number of let's include extended family to see what support they can offer that my parents paid for the trip and the only things we paid for were our meals to and from, our dining plan, and any souvineers we got-for that the kids each had gotten $100 in gift cards for Christmas from grandparents and aunt, DH and I got $50 from my brother and his family plus we got a $25 gift card from Disney for writing down which rides we went on and how long we waited in the line along with what the signage stated was the wait time and the time of day we went on that attraction. Oh and we paid for our lunches at Sea World the day we went there). Not taken into consideration the fact that our home loan program had an assitance program on the interest that we qualified for and would be renewed in early 2011 so we had no idea what our mortgage payment would be increasing to. Since I am the one who pays the day to day bills and thus have a better idea of our budget I did agree to raise what we were paying to $25 a month making it clear or so I thought that it would be a sacrifice and we would have to cut other areas like the clothing for the kids budget

Yes. Our two older children got to go at ages 6 & 9 and 4 & 7, respectively, so during that window when it is "magical" but they still remember. Youngest was two on our last trip, so he doesn't remember, and would have been 7 on our trip this summer - just nearing the outer window of that little-kid magic. I'm hoping to go next summer, when he will be 8, although depending on things it might not be for another year after that. Whenever it is, we will still have a wonderful time and in the grand scheme of things this is not a big problem, but there's a part of me that is wistful about him missing out on an experience his siblings had (and let's be real here, it's just as much me missing out).

Yes you have put your finger on it. I’m fretting that by the time we are able to go back, he’ll have outgrown hugging characters, Dumbo and the speedway. I’m sure the next phase will be great, too, but I love the small kid at Disney phase 💕
