How is anybody able to find...

First thing I stocked up on was cat food.
I'm heavily invested in Prescription Diet. We worked too hard to get her eating this. I wasn't about to take a chance. But given that she's 19 years old, it's also risky to stock up too far in advance.

Ugh. We bought so much food for Cashew and Walnut before Cashew died. He was only 4 when he died so we didn't think we'd be wasting it. So then we just had a lot for Walnut, but then he got sick and needed to change diet!!!

We ended up donating most of it.

We donated most of a $50 bag of food when we lost our 7 year old cat to a rare disease 5 years ago.

This is our third $55 bag of dry food for this cat. Plus countless $2.40 cans. But it's doing its job so I'm fine with it.

We have a friend who worked at the vet's office where he was treated. I asked her if they could find someone who would appreciate the donation and she took care of it for us.
Also, just FYI, if your pet passes on and you have some of its medicine left over, the vet might be able to take that back. I assume they wouldn't resell it but might give to a pet that needs it and wouldn't be able to have it otherwise? I guess you could ask.

We donated to the rescue we adopted Cashew from. I think most rescues/shelters are happy to take!

Thank you all. :thanks:

Dried beans. My grocery store has had no dried beans for several weeks now. Are people actually eating all those beans, or storing them for "just in case"? I used to cook and eat dried beans several times a week. I loathe eating most types of meat (makes me gag for some reason) but am okay with fish, so that's going to have to be my new protein source for a while. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things but I'm definitely curious what people are doing with all the beans!

What are your tricks snagging those widely sought after products that are impossible to buy?

I'm still not able to get my hands on hand sanitizer, alcohol pads/bottles or Clorox wipes.

My trick is to not buy ease of use products. Add Clorox and water to an empty spray bottle and clean the surface you want. Alcohol pads can be duplicated with cotton or cosmetics pads and a bottle of alcohol. I rarely use hand sanitizer at home since hand washing does well and I have tons of freebie bottles of personal hand sanitizers in the house. Much (MUCH) cheaper on your pocketbook, less toilet clogging, and landfilling.

I use the small bags of non clumping litter. I was able to order some on Amazon today, though the price was pretty inflated. I went ahead and ordered them despite the price because I have a hard time handling the huge bags of litter and wanted to make sure I had the smaller ones.

I hope pet needs don’t turn into the next TP! 😬
(I figured litter is my biggest concern. I can improvise food for my pets, but litter isn’t so easy!)
Add baking soda to each bag of pet litter. It'll bulk it up and smell better whether you use the clumping version or not. Use a screen "thingie" to remove solids daily.

I was so close to buying extra toilet paper at work last week to barter for sanitizer (I only have 3 more bath and body works ones left and I sanitize frequently on the job ..... like I’ve gone through 6 since March 15th frequency)

I'm so over all of this, gonna eat grass and use pine cones/leaves/tree bark at this point!

Adult son, who is wfh at my house, just texted me and asked if i could pick up hershey's syrup  , sure I told him, how much covid19 you think they'll throw in free for stopping to pick up 1 item.

So kroger click list has an opening for pick up a week from today where you may or may not get what you order. There's walmart's pick up-available today, so I thought I'll put together and order from there of course they are out of hershey's and anything else I really want or need.

I'm sorry I'm venting about this stuff, I'm so frustrated and really I don't know what to do. Again, I have serious anxiety about this kind of stuff :guilty:, I just cant do it.....

I had my "I'm losing it " moment earlier this week. In the past three weeks I have spent about 5 mins in an Aldi's getting a loaf of bread. Everything else has been delivery/pickup. And I seem to be getting about 70% of the stuff I want or good enough with subs.

Early this week, I tried to order from BJS, no time slot, just any available shopper over the next 5 days. So I had no idea when it would come, and I'm freaking the items are in stock, out of stock, in stock..... I had decided I didn't want/need a few items, tried to change it and ending up cancelling. But then I found a slot for "in the next five hours" grab it.....Sat at the laptop refreshing every few mins to see if my items were still in stock and if the shop began. Not full panic attack, but heart was pounding like when waiting for the clock to tick over to grab those FPS. And we got most of the stuff, no bread items. (side note, getting a walmart pick up today, ordered three different loaves of bread, keeping our fingers crossed )

Crazy thing is , we have food in the house. We have some meat, veggies and bread dough in the freezer, we had around 40 cans of soup (half progesso/half campbell's chicken noodle/tomato), several boxes of cereal, crackers, jars of PB and jelly. On those things alone we can live several weeks. But that BJs shop seemed to be my "toilet paper" moment. So much stuff I can't control, can't go out, can't see grandkids, no church services, we are in the high risk group...........

By the way, toilet paper we have plenty...about 2 months ago with BJS was having a " save on gas" promo and some of the items we got was toilet paper and tissues.

This shop today from walmart will be the last until May. The cases are rising, The peak for PA is suppose to be April 18 and we are in one of the "hotter" parts of the state. I hoping we can just hide in the house and let the wave go around us. I know at some point we will probably get it, but everyday they find out more on how to fight the virus, the better we are in odds of winning.

I just got the walmart email....woo hoo, I got all three loaves of bread. I had chosen three different brands hoping to increase the odds. Seems no pretzels in stock. Replaced fresh califlower for frozen. Replaced 24 oz bag of frozen raspberries for the 12 oz bag , same price.

Maybe I should learn how to make raspberries jam to go with all the bread.

Big virtual hug! So totally get it -- it's exhausting, isn't it? And it can just wear at your soul... Hang in there! You're not alone in this, that's for sure.

I normally don’t use disinfectant wipes so I never had any at home but it would be nice to have some now. Haven’t seen any in 2 weeks.
I’ve also not been able to find yeast for the last 3 weeks.
Keep checking Amazon at random times throughout the day -- I just found Amazon brand disinfectant wipes for the first time in what seems like forever. The hard to find items can show up for just a minute here and there, but you can still find them! As for yeast, King Arthur Flour is starting to restock their online store. They had yeast this morning. Keep checking to see when it gets restocked. Also, I've seen the same brand on Amazon, but it was considerably more expensive there. Try calling your local bakeries to ask if they'll sell you some. One of our local bakeries is selling flour, yeast, sugar, and eggs to customers.

We may see our DS this weekend and he'll be getting his Easter basket early - TP, some cleaning spray, Kleenex, Lysol and Clorox wipes, if I can find them.
This sounds like my mom's birthday basket! Plus a homemade pound cake. Because nothing says love like cleaning supplies and cake!

My wife uncle's dog just died yesterday. Where can food be donated?
Sorry to hear about your uncle's dog. Many Petco stores accept donations for local shelters. Our Petco accepts donations for the dog shelter and for the woman who brings in the cats who are up for adoption. She takes food, toys, beds, carriers, etc. So you can donate all sorts of things.

We do this with food grade diatomaceous earth. It deodorizes, improves clumping, and kills fleas!

I know TP is an obvious shortage, but last night I think I struck gold.

I was on Amazon last night around 11:30p, mindlessly shopping, and I saw a 48 pack of TP for $26 on prime. Delivery for April 6-8th. There were 17 left.

I put it in my card, starting to second guess if I needed it (we have about 5 rolls left), and I looked at my cart and it said 5 left.

So next week I have 48 rolls of TP being delivered to my house. I plan on sharing it with my family.

But it may be good to look at off times for restocking of hot ticket items.

I'm like you-I have food, in no way would we go hungry. But going to a store or looking online and not finding something just makes me stress out.

Thank you-I swear I'm not crazy, but this is sure making me feel like it!

Yesterday after work I decided to venture to Save-A-Lot to see what they might have. I found spaghetti noodles-and you would have thought I found a winning lottery ticket. I found canned beans. And they had frozen veggies, and plenty of other food. No TP, no paper towels or cleaning products of any kind, no bleach either. They did have Hershey's syrup, so DS was happy.

I told DS we'd have to keep trying for TP and paper towels-he said,"why? I went to Sam's a week before this all blew up and have all of that in my trunk." He bought the huge packages, so thankfully we are set on those for a while.
