Tell us what old movies you're watching...

The other night Kevin and I were trying to decide on a movie to watch. We're caught up on most of the new releases we want to see and we were thinking about old(er) movies we haven't seen in a while.

Sometimes it's a bit of a negotiation - Kevin prefers that we watch something with real people (i.e. no androids, cyborgs, zombies or cgi) and would prefer it have minimal singing and dancing. Sometime there's a trade-off - we use this phrase...."this was your choice so I get the next one".

Well Kevin ran across Moonstruck on TCM. It had been a while since either of us saw it so we agreed it would be a good one to watch. We really enjoyed it!!! It holds up very well and has some of the best actors/actresses around in it. It was the perfect find at the perfect time.

Have you come across an old favorite you haven't watched in a while? If so tell us so we can put it on our list of what to watch next...

I really picked a bad time to do a binge rewatch of 12 Monkeys and Fringe....

The Quiet Man was my choice last night. I have been to some the filming locations on my trip in 2001. My pub drinks were usually water, cider (hard), and gin and tonic. I suppose to learn some songs for our future trip according to the Irish family members.
TCM has some good classics like Captains Courageous and Mister Roberts.
I also had Twilight Zone series in the background this week plus other scifi classics...sorry Kevin.
We would had been watching Frozen 2 or another Disney choice or some kind of mystery movie tonight, but someone had book an early tax appointment in the morning.

This week we have watched Say Anything, Three men & a baby, Office Space, Back to the Future part 3.

And I also watched ”The Cheerleader Escort” on Lifetime. I guess that’s not an older movie, but it was dumb and amusing.

I heard a podcast with Alicia Malone, host on Turner Classic Movies. She suggested a few movies and I'm on a quest to watch them. Classic movies are fantastic because the lack of CGI and other special effects means that everyone had to rely on a great script.

The Apartment (watched it yesterday........fantastic Jack Lemmon and Shirley McClaine)
Read Window (just finished it....so wonderful)
Citizen Kane
The Big Sleep
It Happened One Night

Enjoy!

I stayed up last night to watch Dial M for Murder, a good Hitchcock film with Grace Kelly and John Williams (love him). Well written and only 4 characters, one room set, it had successful runs in London and on Broadway.
Then Wait Until Dark with Audrey Hepburn and Alan Arkin in a rare villain role. I turned off the lights to watch it in the dark at the part when Hepburn breaks the lightbulbs. No spoilers, but I decided I have gotten too old to stay up late watching movies alone in the dark.
I recommend both movies.

edited for spelling

I agree with Kevin on no androids, cyborgs, zombies or cgi. I do really enjoy a lot of singing and dancing movies though.
l also really enjoy Moonstruck. It does hold up really well.

I can't get stop some of the great classic songs from the older movies that could be great to sing/hum/whatever while washing hands. This week dh is going to hear a lot of Star Wars bits like The Imperial March and some from the Mos Eisley cantina scenes. I am definitely doing Eastenders tv theme on Sundays (my father got me hook on this show when I was a teen) and some musicals like Hello Dolly.
Lion King songs. might have to be thrown in....

I've watched several early jack lemmon movies. Particularly enjoyed Avanti, a romantic romp in Italy. Also just watched "if its Tuesday this must be Belgium" which reminded me a little of some parts of our ABD trips.

Right now though I'm binge watching Magnum PI for the beautiful island scenery.
