Attendance

SF Cherry Blossom Festival (April) and E3 (June) are both cancelled now. E3 probably being a little more relevant considering closer proximity to Anaheim.

Not sure how much is concern for health versus concern that they will lose even more money cancelling closer to the events if they are forced to cancel by the cities they're in.

Yikes, I wonder what will happen with Dapper Days. We have two rooms booked via the convention rate and it has a non-refundable first night deposit. My Dad has diabetes and I have asthma (although I'm in my early 30s, Dad is 60). A week ago I was rolling my eyes, but now as the date looms closer we aren't feeling too great about going. In any normal circumstance we'd go no problem. Ugh. May be the last time we book these kind of special rates.
Update: I contacted Dapper Days via Facebook to ask them if they are making (or will make) any exceptions to the non-refundable hotel deposit for guests with existing health issues. I got a message back that said they were currently in discussions with Disney on how to best address the situation for Spring Dapper Day guests due to these unique circumstances. She told me they would be sharing more information shortly and offered to send me the notice directly once confirmed.

Hmm... I'll report back when I hear from them, or see an official announcement from the organization.

Update 2: Here is the FB message I just received from Dapper Days. They will be allowing cancellations. Wanted to pass along the info for anyone else in the same boat:

In consultation with Disney, they have agreed to change the group rooms cancellation policy for this season, given the circumstances.

All room reservations can now be canceled up to 5 days before the reservation’s check-in date. If the room is canceled at least 5 days before check-in, guests will receive their 1-night's room deposit back.

You can modify your room reservation online here: https://book.passkey.com/event/49896804/owner/29100/home, calling Disney Group Reservations at 714-520-5005 or by emailing DLR.CONVENTION.GROUPS@DISNEY.COM

Our website has also been updated with the following info:
UPDATE Novel Coronavirus concerns: We're happening! Our Spring Expo will only be postponed or cancelled if required by government agencies, or the Disneyland Resort. As with any illness, for the safety of yourself and others, please stay home if you are feeling unwell. For info regarding how the Disneyland Resort is responding to the situation please see https://disneyland.disney.go.com/faq/parks/coronavirus-response/

I keep checking the Anaheim hotel I like to see if it's dropped enough during my March trip and I can sweet talk my mom into it. We're currently set to stay in Costa Mesa (same chain: La Quinta) and drive in like normal (at just under $322 total for five nights), but walkable does save time. And I like being able to take an easy midday break to check on Riley in the hotel.

The Anaheim location has gone from about $160/night (before taxes) to $125/night (before taxes). Still not low enough to justify more than doubling our total cost, but if it gets down to only being a couple hundred more total, then it might be worth it.

But I also got a really great price for Easter weekend at the Anaheim location (I think WonderCon tickets hadn't gone on sale yet when I booked it) so we do have a trip a couple weeks later closer to the parks. I shouldn't be greedy and instead use that savings to book a summer trip lol!

Wow I don’t check the news all day and so much has happened:
NCAA tournament is not allowing fans only limited family to attend

NBA won’t allow fans to the games

Colleges are moving to online classes

No traveling from Europe to US

I’m sure I missed something else.

They cancelled the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, which is a huge deal. This is the largest rodeo in the world- it raises millions of dollars a year for college scholarships, employs vendors, businesses, and kids raise animals for years in the Hope of showing and winning scholarship money. There’s more, but I won’t get too off topic. I just think park closures are coming. Soon.

My daughter’s school here in San Diego is preparing to go to fully remote learning. They already turn in all assignments in Google classroom, but they were teaching the kids how to use the system today to access daily lessons and did a whole school survey to ID those that don’t have access to a computer at home. They will start sending computers home with those kids tomorrow for what seems like the imminent day they can’t return to school. They’ve also canceled all large group meetings and postponed 2 more exchange trips (it’s an international school). My daughter is supposed to leave for Germany for her 7th grade exchange in May, but we’ve already been put on notice that it might be postponed, as well. Doesn’t sound like an if, but a when.

I'm sure it's a matter of when, not if. I just wonder if the parks will make it past next week? Hopefully we'll hear what their plan is before the weekend.

We attend a private school as well. They are prepared for remote learning as well. Most of the high school trips are cancelled. I’m hoping we go to remote learning. There is data that proactively closing schools can help decrease the mortality rate by 50%... Granted this is from the Spanish Flu pandemic, but still. It can’t hurt.

I feel like our spring break trip is a no-go. Up to this point my H has not been on board with canceling, but things have definitely escalated. Even if the parks are open, I don’t want to be responsible for spreading the virus to our friends and family.

Tonight we discussed pushing the trip out to fall break. I reminded him the Avengers stuff would be open by then, which would be a bonus! I’ve also been preparing the kids for the possibility of no Disneyland.

Really? This has not been our experience, especially post ROTR. We’ve been 4 times since the end of January and yesterday was the first time probably 95% of the rides had immediate FP return all day.
It's been mine, in fact we even made fun of the fact that both Buzz and Star Tours had near immediate return times (less than 15.minutes at the kiosk and immediate via Maxpass) and Buzz had a 45 minutes standby while Star Tours had a 90inute standby, seems to me that walking a few feet or opening a phone could have saved people a lot of waiting. And this was on a very busy Saturday, to the point that it got so crowded that we left, but it wasn't the length of lines or waits for FP return times, but rather just.mocing around that was the issue.

I think this is the best choice. It’s just not worth it. You’re doing your part to stop the spread by social distancing!
Actually, all you are doing is buying into the media overhyping things in this case.
Disney actually takes many measure to help prevent disease all year round, so there really isn't an issue with going.

But please don't listen to me on that, go ahead and cancel so I can have the parks to myself.

🙄

Two weeks ago, I would’ve agreed with you. Not anymore. Italy is practicing wartime medicine right now- which means the people with the best survival odds get medical care and the others don’t. They die. The potential of overwhelming our healthcare system so those that need treatment can’t get it is a potential reality they’re trying to avoid. That is not media hype or a conspiracy theory. Amazing to me there are still people out there like you. I don’t believe in being fearful but there are intelligent steps we can take to avoid the European chaos.

I have zero interest in continuing this conversation with you.
