Anyone getting worried about March Break Travel

Most insurance companies won’t pay if the cancellation is due to a declared epidemic. Even some cancel for any reason won’t pay. Some will pay if the insurance was bought before Jan 22. Best to read your contract.

Yes I saw that! Manulife was my niece's insurance. What's not clear is if it not covering going forward, or none at all.

We are still planning to go to WDW next week. DH keeps eyeing cruises saying they must be on killer sales now - but then I remind him it may not be a good idea to be quarantined on a ship - that Diamond Princess stuff was crazy! We take all kinds of risks - but I have to admit following that Diamond Princessbthing was nerve-wrecking and I don't know if I would get on a cruise ship at this point. Maybe - but I am refusing to look and get tempted.

We have already discussed alternatives if our flights get cancelled and we get stuck in WDW (probably rent a car and drive).

I don't go until the end of April and I was thinking the same thing if we were to not be able to get back on a plane. I would drive to upstate NY drop off the rental and have DH come and pick us up.

We are talking flight cancellations in the event that airlines ground their planes?

We are driving and I was fine with the risk at WDW, but I'm getting a little more concerned this morning after learning about insurance companies not covering. I just bought medical insurance through CAA. :S

If we started to feel sick in Florida, Canada still has to let us back in right? Likely a stupid question, but I need my mind eased a little I guess. It's about a 19 hour drive so we could make it back in close to a straight shot home if need be. I feel silly even asking! Like I'm banging on Canada's door saying I live here let me back in! LOL

Medical insurance will still cover all the other ailments you could come down with, just not Covid-19. If you had contact with the virus on day 1 of your trip you likely wouldn't notice any symptoms for 4-7 days. I don't know how long your trip is but you might be home from your trip before you noticed anything (assuming you came in contact with anything at all)

Proper handwashing and tour the parks like a germaphobe would (ie lots of hand sanitizer). You'll be fine. At least that's what I keep telling myself.

From what I was reading, it’s only for trip cancellation insurance and it’s for trips to those countries that have been added coronavirus-related advisories against non-essential travel by the government. Which I can understand.

And yes, Canada has to let you back in, the US wouldn’t let them leave you there! 😂

Not March Break, but Mid April and late June. Pretty sure we are cancelling April. June is wait and see. Dh wants to cancel the most. I keep wondering if we are overreacting. He is fifty five though, with asthma, history of bacterial pneumonia and hypertension—so lots of risk factors. He’s also worried about being quarantined should we encounter someone with Covid 19. He’s self employed and that would be a real problem. I selfishly and childishly wish someone would tell me all will be well. Go. I really want to go. Dd and I are running the half marathon.

Not a stupid question ! You must self-identify when you present yourself at the border as being potentially infected with COVID-19 to allow the border guards to take proper precautions for themselves but they'll let you in. You'll be asked to self-isolate more than likely.

Now will it be necessary when returning from Disney in the next month or so since there are no reported cases in the Orlando area to mention that you're coughing? I wouldn't report having what i assume is just a cold, but considering the number of international visitors i would still chose to self-isolate since the incubation period can be as long as 14 days so there's no way of knowing if the person who was coughing in line for FOP has asthma or brewing up something better!

Ok, I'll just in here with the caveat "This is just my opinion" but i think you are asking for that. I'm not a health care professional nor do i consider my suggestions to apply to anyone other than my family.

I would be cancelling with the list of things you provided - lots of health risk factors that will make your hubby a great host for an illness that targets the lungs. The biggest warning bell for me is the fact that he's self-employed. So is mine and we simply can't afford for him to not work and being quarantined would present a very real hardship for us. If i was in your shoes i would be extremely disappointed but it would be ME telling hubby that we wouldn't be going, all while smiling (and inwardly screaming NO NO NO)

Again, sorry but i think you are asking for other's opinions and that's mine.

Before traveling speak to custom border protection and ask. Just being a Canadian doesn't mean they will let you in.
