Need new flatware

Hello, All!

So I guess it's time to buy some new flatware. The stuff we have was a wedding gift and we thought it was going to last a lifetime, but it lasted about 16 years. Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions on good quality but not ridiculously overpriced flatware?

Thanks so much!

I have this and have been happy with it. The mismatched pattern also makes it flexible for using alongside other designs of cocktail forks, serving utensils, etc.

Ooh I like that set :)
The last set I bought 5 years ago at HomeGoods, a 68 piece lovely high end set. iirc it was marked at '$400 comparable value', they originally sold for $180 but kept marking it down as the box grew damaged. $50 is what I paid, a true deal. I wasn't buying the box, lol. After having teenagers running around our house these years, 30% ended up MIA. Maybe they ran off inside the odd socks? Almost time to replace.

Lucky you for making it 16 years. Our flatware disappears at an alarming rate. My guess is its ending up in the trash, with dirty paper plates. I'm also looking for good flatware that's in the $50 or less range. We'll replace our nice flatware, when it's mainly DH & me using it. I've learned my lesson, after paying $100+ for multiple sets of flatware that have disappeared.

Was at a home decorating type store just browsing around with my daughter at the mall and saw a flatware setup on a table display. Really liked it and so did she. $400, I'm not that rich. Pretty though. Then at Walmart, we saw something almost identical. Picked up one of the pieces on display and it felt lighter than a disposable plastic fork, lol.

Our wedding set made it about that long too, well technically we still have it but it's now in our RV. We bought a cheap set once, bad idea would bend pretty bad. The set we have now, and I like better then even our wedding set came from Costco. It's the Mikasa brand, was around $50 or a 4 piece (20 set) serving, we grabbed 2 sets then got more.

I'd check stores like Marshall's for a reasonably priced set of s/s flatware. I bought a two toned set from Home Goods for camping and they fell apart with only hand washing after one or two summers:(. The ones from a mall shop that specializes in kitchenware wasn't made very well either. Can't recall the name of the shop but they sell the flatware in a plastic round container and you can't really touch it.
Then I bought a 2 color set from Williams-Sonoma and all was well although I paid a lot more.

We are still using the flatware we got at our wedding 26 years ago. It is an Oneida pattern still made so when we start to run low on spoons, they are the ones that seem to disappear, we just buy a few more.

Our Oneida is from 1992. I only recently bought another set because we were out of spoons. I like the weight of it and it lasts.
Cheap flimsy flatware is a pet peeve of mine.

About 5 years ago, I replaced our every-day flatware with Oneida “Sand Dune.”

We also have an Oneida set that we bought probably 30 yrs ago. It’s held up very well. I replace missing pieces of the same pattern from time to time using EBay, like teaspoons and forks. I thought about changing altogether many times, but nothing I’ve seen has really tempted me that much. (And I look all the time!)

We have the Oneida set (Paul Revere) from our wedding almost 32 years ago. My mother had the same set from as long as I could remember, and she gave us her pieces several years after our wedding when she decided to use my grandmother's flatware instead. It's definitely lasted well, and I have no reason to replace it.

We have a very plain set from Bed Bath and Beyond that works well for us. What we love about it is that they don't discontinue it. It's very simple to grab an additional set when we notice we are low on spoons.

I thought about looking at Williams-Sonoma. Their quality is good and their stuff is quite nice, but it's pretty pricey. On the other hand, if you buy too inexpensive, the stuff will fall apart, bend or generally look awful. I want to find the sweet spot in the middle. If I can't find that, then I will pay for better stuff, like you did. Thanks for your suggestion!

So true! My current stuff is from Crate & Barrel and it's discontinued.
